Historical Fiction
Review:This book is interesting and I love reading books based on cultures I don't automatically encounter in main stream culture. I really liked it, but was frustrated by the seemingly easy solution at the end of the book. I don't highly recommened this book, but I don't regret reading it. Read more
Review:I enjoyed this story that kept me captivated with its mystery, romantic suspense, unexpected circumstances, trouble-makers, danger and new beginnings. Tabitha Canterbury had a dream to opening a bookstore, even if it meant leaving her parents in New York and traveling to Wyoming where she has an Aunt and Uncle, siblings of her mother. She has given up on love and marriage and accepted she is a spinster, but she has her books and her bookstore. Hunter Wade finds himself the half owner of the Br... Read more
Review:I love those women who have fallen between the cracks of law and order, these weekend warriors, these avengers, who will leave no stone unturned to seek justice for those for whom Lady Justice has turned her head. I can just picture Myra, who is so precious and Charles who is the genious of the Sisterhood. What a motley crew and what wonders they have done. I'm reading the whole series. I want more, more, more. Read more
Review:Although I greatly enjoyed this book, I was not left with the same satisfied feeling that many of her other books left me with. It seems to be getting just slightly too involved with internal politics, with the bad guys playing so small of a role, that they seem almost an afterthought. I too do not understand why Nefret had to become so weak & tragic, but the character development of Ramesses is quite excellent. I would like to see David fleshed out a little more as well -- he really in... Read more
Review:I too am an Amelia Peabody fan. I absolutely love this series, and this book is a great addition to it. In it we finally get some very outstanding questions answered, and we also get some unresolved issues resolved. But the thing that I enjoyed the most about this particular book is that we get a closer look at Emerson! Yes, Amelia and all her troupe are also there, thank heavans, but getting a closer look at Emerson finally is an added bonus. We actually see a little of him as a young man ... Read more
Review:I loved the characters in this book. They were well written and very human. I liked how the story played out and the adversity which they had to overcome. I especially liked the relationship between the heroine and her brother. A great, sweet story! Read more
Review:Although this is a fictional account of actual events, I found it quite illuminating. I didn't know Einstein' s first wife had such an impact on his discoveries or hers. It also depicts a time in history where women were expected to know their place and defer to their husbands. In that sense, this is definitely a piece of historical fiction...a very enlightening one at that. Read more
Review:What a disappointment, from an author some of whose earlier works hit the mark so well. The characters in this book are flat and one-dimensional; there is little true feel for place or period, and, to top it all off, the details relating to flight are childishly naive. Overall: slow, plodding, predictable; hardly worth slogging through. Read more
Review:"The Scarlet Pimpernel" is my all-time favorite book. I have read it more times than I can count and it never fails to excite, despite the fact that I know exactly what's going to happen. So, when my sister read "The Secret History of the Pink Carnation", she told me I absolutely had to read this book and as soon as it was available in the library, I checked it out.
And loved it. The only way I can describe it is that it's a fun read. Pure entertainment. The hilarious antics of Amy kept m... Read more
