Review:Having read many of Anne Rice's works (Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, Blood and Gold, The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty), I can safely say that this is one of her most well-written and beautiful books. I think it took me the whole of about five days to read "Vittorio" from cover to cover, and like Rice's previous works, it didn't fail to mesmerize me. There is something different about this book, however, compared to the others I've read.
Like Ric... Read more
Review:Incorporating fictional letters and slave advertisements, this imaginative first person narrative depicts the Revolutionary War era by mimicking language usage of the time. Anderson's entertaining and moving polemic about civil rights and racial prejudice is stretched on a canvas which also explores the ethics of scientific research gone astray. Highly original, the text contains well-drawn characters, an exciting plot and stunning moments of insight. Octavian's relationship with his princess... Read more
Review:V was an extraordinary woman. She lived fully every day no matter what came her way. She made friends among every rung of society and protected those she loved. She survived more death than most humans can endure and still found delight in life.she did not believe in slavery, yet she stood behind the very man who led the fight to keep it. Read more
Review:Very disappointing effort compared to Frazier's prior works. I could listen to Cold Mountain (and 13 Moons) every year for the rest of my life. This effort, not so much. I did not care for the reader at all and the story seemed to be going nowhere. I listened to 2 discs and then donated the set to the local libraryl. Read more
Review:Some books on tape are easy listening for long car trips. Some involve more complex plots and/or ideas and take more concentration than is safe when driving. I suppose tapes have to be judged by slightly different standards than the books on which they based. A book like <Secret Honor> has so many characters, so many plot threads and twists, that the listener wishes he could look back to remind himself about who a person is or what event is being referred to. Even in its abridged form... Read more
Review:I looked forward to reading this book after beginning the Amazon series and perhaps that's why I was left disappointed. I credit the author with what surely was a tremendous amount of effort. However, in giving Zelda a voice the author has managed to drain her of all personality. Characters felt superficial and worst of all boring. It is difficult to fathom this Zelda inspiring great American literature. Will we ever really know the real Zelda? Read more
Review:I like Tracy Chevalier's work, and appreciate her careful research. Thanks to her diligent work, her novels seamlessly evoke the historical time periods in which her work take place without ever seeming burdened. The Last Runaway vividly conjures up Ohio in Antebellum America, the Underground Railroad, and participation of Quakers in fighting slavery. Review:The story moves the reader with passion, love and twisting outcomes from the beginning to the end.... I have just purchased the "Blood of Roses" for the next saga of Alex and Catherine. Marsha Canham holds your attention constantly, and if you enjoy these be sure and read "The Wind and the Sea" and "Across A Moonlit Sea". mm Read more
Review:Really enjoyed this one. Time travel that showed the difficulty of living in an earlier time and in making choices between staying or returning. I love romance novels and this one offered a little more than most. Read more

They have a rich and interesting court life in their inherited houses and land. Would rate higher, but I have not finished it yet. I"ll come back later I hope to give it 5 stars like the first book.
