Unflinchingly honest tales of the search for life - and fulfillment beyond the Starship Enterprise
Unflinchingly honest tales of the search for life - and fulfillment beyond the Starship Enterprise

Review:Wheaton's book balances nicely the needs of an eager readership who already know his website with an introduction that allows for people like me who hardly remember him at all. The book presents a roughly chronological series of essays about trying to find work as an actor trying to recover from his image as a Star Trek actor.

A few thoughts:

- Wheaton's strength is his honesty. He does a great job explaining what makes him happy and sad, of really documenting the difficulties ... Read more

Life After Death
Life After Death

Review:A very nice book. Thank you Damien for sharing with all of us. Liked that he always had something to discuss, to write in diary, although being absolutely shut from the world. I will always question who the two guys he mentioned as being also inoccent. And it was horrible for Jason to comment on Damien's guilt. Read more

The True Story of a Kidnapping - and My Search for the Real Me
The True Story of a Kidnapping - and My Search for the Real Me

Review:When I finished the book I had more questions than when I started it. Did he think he was going to find a great family, great families don't abandon children. Was finding the dysfunctional family a good excuse for his abandoning his wife? Read more

Travels with Charley in Search of America
Travels with Charley in Search of America

Review:Liked the last portion about his observations in the South during desegregation, and how he presented various viewpoints from different characters perspectives objectively. Gave a nuanced understanding of the feelings about race from the human experience vs the moral and political. Read more

The World of Yesterday
The World of Yesterday

Review:For those who learn little of European history (i.e. Anglos) this book is an insight into that history from a great writer, who was personally affected by the events of the twentieth century.

The Vagina Monologues
The Vagina Monologues

Review:shows just how far the intellect of our college students has deteriorated. it's certainly right and good to be against violence against women. but this ridiculous ranting about their vaginas is not helping the just cause in any way. how do they expect to gain respect for women and support against violence by their vulgar rantings.. the one star is only because it's required.. Men We Reaped: A Memoir
Men We Reaped: A Memoir

Review:Reading this moving, lyrical tribute, you might think the author is talking about the 1930s or even the 19th century. She's not. This is a true, unsentimental portrait of a poor African-American community in Mississippi in the 1980s and 90s. Sure, it evokes tears. But it's so imbued with poetic detail, with dignity and an unflinching sense of humanity, that it's nothing short of eye-opening. You feel the author's mixed emotions – the push-pull of nostalgia for her hometown and disgust at th... Read more

and Jazz Chickens - Believe Me - A Memoir of Love
and Jazz Chickens - Believe Me - A Memoir of Love

Review:OMG how can someone so entertaining be so boring in a book? I'm so sad that he lost his Mom at a young age, but the way he blathers on about the most mundane details of his childhood and life - it's like he never heard of editing a story. This book is a huge disappointment. Read more
