Eat Cake. Be Brave.
Eat Cake. Be Brave.

Review:Not only have I read this wonderfully funny, inspirational book by Melissa, I have had the chance to have a one-on-one sit down conversation with her before she spoke to a group of ladies. She is a down to earth wife, mom and Christian that faces the same everyday struggles we all find ourselves dealing with. What is so awesome about Melissa you ask? She was brave enough to face her struggles head on and then was brave enough again to share her story with anyone that would listen. You can lear... Read more

The Mandibles: A Family, 2029–2047

Review:A wonderful depiction of our possible dystopian near future. A little heavy on the economic explanations but a very descriptive foreshadowing of our culture in America turned upside down. I recommend that it be read concurrently with an eye on our current American political situation. Read more

Review:SPOILER: This is a haunting book. True...there aren't any characters that are easy to identify with, instead it is the pain that Grenouille felt from his hypersensitive sense of smell that kept me reading. Suskind's writing is so vivid and addicting that despite my antipathy for Grenouille I have sympathy for his plight. There are times when I thought I could smell the aromas Suskind was describing in his book. The massive orgy towards the end of the book was a little much. Read more

Review:I have always loved Debbie Reynolds in her movies and this book is no exception. She talks a lot about other stars she worked with and stories about the movie industry at the end of the Golden Age of the studio. It is like hearing a friend talk and very enjoyable. I highly recommend this book if you love Debbie Reynolds and movies Read more

Review:Really a study in values. Los Angeles nouveau riche and the impoverished undocumented. A very engaging tale of predation among the denizens of both groups as well as the fight between the groups. Powerful story with a terribly sad result. Read more

The Bonfire of the Vanities: A Novel

Review:In times of stress when authors are producing crap (yes, that is what many publisher's are putting out there with superb quotes that can not possibly be real) and calling their "work" writing! So far from the truth as to be outside the Milky Way galaxy. My favorite "writer" to call out for this is James Patterson. Tom Wolfe's work is indeed worthy of another go 'round if you do not care for the classics and if you do care for the classics as well. I have read Bonfire so many times that my hard... Read more

Review:Miss Sidibe conveys her story with candor, honesty, and humour. I found the book a refreshing read filled with snark, sarcasm, and entertaining depictions of her life. I highly recommend this book. Miss Sidibe continues to be a "friend in my head" as I could completely follow along without feeling sorry for her in any way. She's definitely someone I'd want to hang out with Read more
