The Men Who Stare at Goats
The Men Who Stare at Goats

Review:But entertaining.

Jon Ronson does his best to investigate a bizarre corner of the U.S. government; the psychics of the intelligence community. To get there, he interviews veterans of the programs, and LTC (ret) Jim Channon, author of First Earth Battalion Operations Manual (which is very central to what Ronson found out and his interpretation of what he learned).

So You've Been Publicly Shamed
So You've Been Publicly Shamed

Review:A fun read but NO CONCLUSION. No explanation of how to deal or who the subjects have bounced back. I thought this would be a n interesting read about how modern communications have devastating effects on lives and how that can be worked out of but no. its just a depressing collection of inclosed case studies. The Crucible: A Play in Four Acts
The Crucible: A Play in Four Acts

Review:This is certainly an interesting story and a poignant look at the way mass hysteria can shape a culture. Though it was written during the Communist witch hunt in America and written about Puritan times, it certainly can be applied to modern times. It’s interesting to read through this and see that though the times may change, humans are rather unchangeable. Read more

What I Learned About Making and Breaking Habits--to Sleep More
What I Learned About Making and Breaking Habits--to Sleep More

Review:Oh, my god, my house is like a non-stop self-help convention. The rotating cast of literary works cluttering my sofa is nauseating. I'm like "Baby, you're perfect, you can't improve on this model." She's all "You need to allow yourself to change! You're stifling yourself and by extension me! You're just like your father." Pshaw, whatever that means, back to XBox. Read more

Franz Kafka: The Complete Stories
Franz Kafka: The Complete Stories

Review:Kafka is much more then the Metamorphosis and the Trial, and this collection demonstrates why. Kafka offered much while he delivered little, meaning that he opens up a universe of possibilities while confirming nothing. Nothing materializes, everything is fog. Stories that sound as if they're going to reveal the meaning of life end up only irritating you, and others, such as A Crossbreed, bore you until the final few sentences when you suddenly realize what you've been reading, and almost cry. The Winter of Our Discontent (Penguin Classics)
The Winter of Our Discontent (Penguin Classics)

Review:This is heralded as one of Steinbeck's best. I'm disappointed. It's just personal taste. The voice goes from 1st to 3rd person which doesn't flow smoothly in my humble opinion. But, why take my opinion? I'm at odds with literary history. I suggest that no one base a decision on one person's view of a literary w y. Give it a try. At least you can say you've read a class Steinbeck novel! Read more

The Te of Piglet
The Te of Piglet

Review:I purchased this book for a class to read a couple chapters, but kept it to read more about the philosophical spin that Hoff puts on the stories of Pooh.
Very interesting read, and makes one stop and ponder life and its wonders. Read more

The Fifth Elephant: A Novel of Discworld
The Fifth Elephant: A Novel of Discworld

Review:This book is Terry Pratchett at the top of his game. One of my favourite Disc world novels. Pratchett manages to blend fantasy, science and social commentary with ease, I still laugh out loud at the jokes, even though I've read the book 5 or 6 times. Read more
