I enjoyed the book. It was different from the usual and I couldn't' see where it was going most of the time and that is a good thing! Recency romances tend to have a formula and this did not follow it. I enjoyed the characters and like watching their growth. I have one complaint: I have no clue what the title referred to. That is part of why I couldn't figure out where the story was going, because of the title----it didn't seem to apply at all. Legend? Betrayed? Still, if you want a good satisfying read with a good satisfying ending, this is for you. Just don't think about the title!

This book is the story of a farmers daughter keeping her spirits up even while facing ridicule and unloving people. In this book a little girl loses her entire family in a fire. A passers-by finds her and takes her to the Duke who decides to keep her. She then spends years upon years being not quite a servant and not quite a member of the family. She is only accepted by the heir and the youngest daughter. As time goes by she and the future duke fall in love even though because of status they cannot be together. I won't ruin what happens but please know this story ends with a happily ever after. And please please read the extended epilogue. Such a sweet tale.

This story is a wonderfully written romance between a girl and a boy. Simple. But it is not simple at all. Lucy lost her parents in a tragic fire. George is the son and heir of the Duke of Sutherland. Their lives collide when Lucy comes to live at the Ducal Estate. George loves to paint and Lucy loves to write. They find common ground in their own pursuits. While George's mother is not accepting of his growing feelings towards Lucy, she has to understand that love comes first. George and Lucy are a lovely couple who brings out the absolute best in each other.

I received this book free for leaving an honest review. I enjoyed the story however I did not feel that it was much of a romance. It seemed to deal a great amount with the sisters and the mother and their petty ways. The actual story of George and Lucy I felt was rather trailed behind. Their love was just lost in the story. In his heart he knows he loves her and yet he never actually takes a strong stand in her defense. There is no way through the years that he could be so blind to how she is used by his mother. It did however eventually have a happy ending.

Ms. Hamilton writes very detailed historical books, it's amazing what she puts into her stories for her readers. It was a lovely story. I must admit that I thought the character that was introduced in the middle of the book was much worse than they were portrayed, I even thought they murdered instead of an accident, so this means that the writer did extremely well as it made me think "Ah Ha, I know what happens next", but it was the exact opposite. Well done.

I received this advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

I just finished reading The Legend of the Betrayed Duchess. I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am leaving a review voluntarily. Hanna's writing brings to life the Regency Era, as well as the titled and gentry lives of the period. Focusing on obtaining wealth and security for marriageable daughters, as well as well positioned, and sometimes well dowered brides for sons... love was sometimes not an option. The characters are believable and well written. The pacing of the story is good. This book is a good read overall.

Hannah Hamilton never fails to deliver. I have enjoyed all of her books and this one is no exception. Lucy is left an orphan when a fire destroys her home and family. Taken in by a Duke’s family, she is raised alongside their son George, and the two become fast friends. As they grow-up they develop a love and bond for one another knowing that their stations in life prevent them from ever marrying. This is truly a Cinderella story complete with a handsome prince (or Duke) and two nasty sisters. A delightful read!

I really enjoyed the story. I really liked Lucy and George. That they worked so well together especially with the studio. He would paint and she would write. He stood up for Lucy so did his sister Betsy with their mother. Also with other family members. I didn't care for the duchess and her snobbery and her self absorbing attitude. I didn't care for Miss Modesty or Miss Priscilla typical society wannabes position and wealth. I did like Lucy's friend Isobell. She was the voice of reason and common sense. I really enjoyed the book. It has like able characters and I did not want to throttle the heroine and a few twists in the plot.

"The Legend of the Betrayed Duchess" by Hanna Hamilton
I just finished reading my copy of this book, which was a gift from the author. A sweet romance with lots of suspense around every corner, so to speak. I really enjoyed reading this story. Everything I want to say about what I liked about this story... I fear just might spoil the story for you. So, if you like sweet romance with lots of diverse impediments to a Happily Ever After... you are sure to enjoy this story as much as I did.

Lucy Brighton is left homeless after a fire destroys her home as well as her family but she is taken in by the Duke whose land she and her family lived on. The family is not all happy to be taking her in but their son George and Lucy become instant friends and grow into a love they share as adults. This is a sweet story with a little suspense which I enjoyed reading and I think you would also.
Received this ARC from the author and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Lucy Brighton is orphaned at the tender of age of 6. Her father was a tenant of The Duke of Sutherland and young Lucy is taken to him to decide her future. The Duke deciders to allow Lucy to raise Lucy under his roof.

The Duchess of Sutherland and her two oldest daughters treat Lucy like a servant. Meanwhile, The Duke’s son, George and Lucy becomes fast friends.

This story starts us out with a young Lucy and George and progresses throughout their life. We get to see Lucy and George’s friendship grow into love. The couple has to overcome their class difference since The Duchess regards Lucy as nothing more than a servant. Can they overcome their class differences to obtain their happily ever after?

Hanna Hamilton once again a has written a well thought out love story.

A heartwarming coming of age story. George and Lucy meet when Lucy, at 6 years old, becomes the only survivor of a house fire. She is taken in as a ward by George's family and promptly treated as a servant. George has always treated her as an equal but will they be able to overcome their different stations in life? You will have to read the book to find out. This is a nice clean romance and you will not be sorry you took the time to read this book.

An excellent regency-era novel by Hanna Hamilton! Beautifully written with a sweet love story, this book has just enough mystery to keep it interesting without being predictable. Characters are well-defined and believable. Ms. Hamilton finishes the book with an extended epilogue, giving the reader a glimpse into the future of the characters while still wrapping up the story without any loose ends.

Poor Lucy certainly has her share of obstacles to overcome. The characters are nicely developed. The story kept my interest, but I have a few quibbles. First the conversation of the main characters as children seems unrealistically mature. Also I was confused by the timeline as to characters' ages. Finally there were instances of language usage that did not seem to fit the time.I received an ARC and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Without giving up the plot, I must say this author does a good job keeping you interested. A lot of historical romance you can say page 11 they kiss, 50 heroine is wronged, and all is happy in the end. This novel actually has well developed characters with who have interests other than horses and good marriages.

Another well written story by Hanna Hamilton. Well developed characters, great plot, and attention to detail even to the secondary characters. I'm awarding four stars because of the title, which in my opinion does not represent the content. A highly enjoyable read for fans of historcal regency stories.

Clever plot and wonderful romance! George and Lucy have loved each other since childhood, even though he was the son of the duke and she the daughter of a tenant farmer. It was a Cinderella story with George’s mother and sisters just like the evil stepmother and the ugly stepsisters. Great job!

I thought the beginning was grabbing. I was disappointed when they used Lucy as kitchen help and tiring woman. Glad for George and his friendship and support. The brother coming in was another grabber for me. So very glad all worked out for all of the players. Hanna, you done good, girl! I loved the way you wove it all together. Two thumbs up...and 5 stars!

A great Regency era story that shows that some people were able to follow their artistic endeavors despite the social restrictions of their times. Hannah Hamilton's characters and their actions are always believable as she has done her research of the era well. May be her best book yet!

I loved that Lucy did not let her circumstances change her heart. She understood her situation and adjusted to her new life, as exacerbating as that life was. I love that George followed his heart and became lifelong friends with Lucy. I love how this friendship grew over the year's to an abiding love. George and Lucy have become one of my all time favorites. In addition, I had a scare with Harry, but was happy with the resolution of his story. This is a great read. I will definitely read it again and again.

Another great book by Hanna. We first meet Lucy after a tragedy rips through her family & she’s thrust into the Dukes family. Through the years as George & Lucy grow we see friendship develop into love. As we expect of Hanna there is drama & complications along the way. Ultimate they find love & happiness & so do their loved ones. Lovely read to while away the winter blues.

The characters are simply gorgeous. Lucy is so much more than a pretty face being pushed into the background. She’s smart and sweet and kind. She does feel frustrated with her station and lack of pay and respect, so she’s not timid.

Well written, beautifully done. Highly recommend this one.
