Still have this book-I bought it after reading many reviews and recommendations. The book came in good condition, good descriptions, pictures, and directions. Good buy for anyone who wants to make handmade books first timer or experienced artist ?. I have taken classes for handmade books before-I just needed a book to remind of what I learned and more ideas. I recommend getting a nice sturdy storage box to save found materials to use for ideas in the book-clearance and garage sales too- It's addictive once you start then you can't stop creating just one more book. If you love journals, books, and creating-this the book for you.?

I've been making artists books for many years - this is a fabulous technical know how book. Great diagrams that are easy to follow. After just a week I had made four new style books and couldn't wait to make some more.

This book is very inspiring and full of great tips. Easy to understand! I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys using paper for projects. (I used this book primary for my final art paper project and got an A )

This book is full of some excellent book projects. I bought a copy of this book for everyone in my book making group and our goal is to teach each other how to make a book. There are projects in this book that haven't been available to everyone until now. Ms. Golden has tackled some of these projects and I hope that we we tackle them as well. This is an excellent book for beginners as well as the more advanced book maker.

The book gives nice overview from different kind of tecniques of making the books. Doesn't consist the exact tutorals, but gives a good general idea of many possibilities.
If you have done paperwork before you can easily transform the ideas to be useful for you right away. Inspired me.

For those disappointed at the lack of bookmaking instructions in Golden's "Painted Paper: Techniques & Projects for Handmade Books & Cards (Paperback)", this is the book for you.

Making Handmade Books is choke full of ideas for bookbinding, book forms and materials to use to create your very own unique books. I love the unusual ideas like a book in the shape of a tea bag and 3D books like a theaterbox. There is a lot here to fire up your imagination and creativity.

The book is well-organized into chapters on different book structures, binding methods, techniques for making covers etc. There is also an introductory section explaining the materials and methods needed to make a book. The instructions are pretty easy to follow and some are accompanied by diagrams. But if you're new to bookmaking and prefer illustrated step-by-step instructions, you may want to check out the book first before buying it.

Those familiar with Golden's works should take note that this is actually a compiled version of 2 previous books by the author: "Creating Handmade Books (Paperback)" and "Unique Handmade Books (Paperback)", with added comments from other bookmaking artists on their creative processes. If you don't already have those 2 books, though, this is a great buy.

I have quite a large library of book-making books, and although I really enjoy looking at any of them, there are only one or two that I use for projects. I wasn't sure what to expect of this book, but I liked a previous Alisa Golden book quite a lot, so I pre-ordered this one last summer. It was a nice surprise to have it arrive in my mailbox last week, and an even better surprise when I started to look through it.

The projects are diverse, numerous, elegant, and well-described. The illustrations include technical drawings for technique tutorials and photos of completed projects. I also appreciate the vast array of artists' books that are featured in this book; I am always looking for new artists to follow. I am so excited to get started on making some of these books. This will be one of my top books on the subject for sure.

As a nearly lifelong journal-er I have always appreciated papers and handmade books for both written and art journaling, but I can't say that I was ever tempted to make a book myself - before I saw this book that is! There are a lot books that claim to be 'complete' or 'compendiums' of techniques. To my way of thinking there are few books that actually live up to those merits. "Making Handmade Books" is one of those few titles that does not claim to be complete, replete or a compendium but succeeds in being all of that and more. No kidding! If you have ever been tempted ( or are even like me and didn't think that you were interested) to learn what making a handmade book would entail - this is the book to read. Ms. Golden once again manages to fill the pages of this book with so much, very complete, information that if you could only have one book about making books - this would be the one to choose. Once again the contents as written by Ms. Golden on her website tell the story of how much is included in this book far better than I could write.

Disappointed with the instructions. This is more of a compilation of handmade books, but even the "simplest" books are lacking in instructions. Steps are missing and written steps don't match the illustrations. Overall, I've spent more time researching the web looking for instructions to help me figure out how to make the example books.

Our book making group has a lending library. Last year, I borrowed this book from it for a month and made just about every structure! When I realized I wanted to borrow it from the library again, I decided to buy a copy of it for myself! It is very easy to follow along with the instructions and really can get your creative juices going. I highly recommend it!

I have been using this book to explore many different types of book binding. Just when I think I've exhausted all the ideas, I turn the page and there is a whole new approach that is also fun to try. This is my favorite book about how to book bind of all the ones I have.
