I really enjoyed this book -well written and a brilliant story, as normal with Wilbur Smith, I couldn't put it down. However the graphic detail of the elephant hunting, which I feel very strongly about was quite horrifying and rather unsympathetic to the slaughter that was effected by the hunters 'for profit only' of the ivory.
Other than that, I really enjoyed the book.

I thought I had read all the early Courtney books, but missed this on unhtil now. Wow, this is a real thriller and a great start to the books of Sean Courtney, which are all 5 star in my opinion. Wilbur Smith tells a tale and you are in the story from start to finish. This is one of his best.

I love the fact based fiction book where the story line follows generations of the characters. This is one of the best series. It has characters you love and some you hate but it all works out in the end. The characters are well defined and there’s lots of action, adventure and intrigue. Usually when I read a series like this, especially when the books are long (which I like), I’ll read shorter books in between. But with this series I couldn’t stop reading until I had read the entire 6 books. I hated to see the series end but the good thing is that I’ve collected a few good shorter books along the way that I catch up on. I just have to not start another series written by Wilbur Smith until I’ve read these others.

Great story telling style, doesn't shy away from harsh realities but draws the reader into the story to really show the perspective of each character.
One star less because pretty much every female character under 30 is pathetic.

As always Wilbur Smith is an enticing writer, he keeps you wanting to read until the last page, reading his books is the best relaxation you can have, I have read all his work and continue to read them over and over through the years, make sure you set aside plenty of time because you won't put the book down
