A very topical subject which must have been carefully and diligently researched by the author. Then again I would have expected nothing less from this author. The action is very gripping and is sustained throughout.

This ia a lot different than Smith's other books. The first fifty pages had more sex than any five of his previous ones. That said the rest of the book was very good and interesting reading. Not the same as his books about Africia. They were thrilling, interesting and very informative about that area and culture.

The Egyptians had a lot of mysticism or "voodoo" in them, but they were ok.

Still preferred the earlier books.

"Those in Peril" came off as another good adventure book..Not great, but still good.

Will continue to buy and read his books. He is one of the best on the scene today. Just wish he would go back to his original format.

Excellent story. Technical details were superb. The negative reviews are unwarranted. Any hero Hector Cross or James Bond for example is only a success if the villain is equally terrible. Fiction is entertainment and not subject to politically correct individuals. Especially those who have no knowledge of the English language other than what is written and spoken in the US. Those in Peril was excellent and I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy. Well done Wilbur.

I still remember picking up THE LEOPARD HUNTS IN DARKNESS in 1986. Never heard of Wilbur Smith, he quickly became my favorite author. This new book is actually better than his last two releases. ASSEGAI was a novel in search of a story, THOSE IN PERIL is a lean and quick moving tale. If anything it reminds me of THE DARK OF THE SUN, another simple story with crudely drawn characters. A brutal story about a brutal part of Africa.

Excellent book. Actually more like two books joined by an unnecessary interlude that was too long and boring. Wilbur Smith has done it again and provided a very entertaining read. Highly recommended.

Very dissapointing..Having read the Courtenay's Ballantyne sagas and some egiptian novels I expected much more -

This book seems as it was written by somebody else . a mixture of Harold Robbins & Sydney Sheldon..but then when I buy their books I know what to expect

Wilbur Smith - like only he can write. I am still reading - but so far loving it. Good story with graphic detail that you can picture in your minds eye. But then I would expect no less from the "Master". Also so nice to read books that have something about South Africa in them that are not steep in history and politics.
Thanks Mr Smith for another great read!!

Mr. Smith, Mr. Courtney, and Stephen King are by far my best. This book does not at all represent what Wilbur Smith is about. I have read everything he has written and would rate everything a 5 star except for this novel.

Another excellent Wilbur Smith read. I enjoyed this book despite the negative reviews from other readers. I am an avid fan of Mr Smith's books and have read and enjoyed all he has published - some more than others, but they have all been good reads. May he write many many more.

I have collected and read anything I could find that was written by Wilbur Smith. This book is a poor representation of Mr. Smith's ability to produce a quality story. Don't waste your money or time on this book.

Same old same old storyline from Smith. Improbable matchup between perfect woman and not-so-perfect man. Then something good and bad and good happens. Always Predictable... I have read many of his earlier books, but got sick from his last Taita-book, and didnt bother fonishing it. A friend recommended this, and stupid me bought it! No more Smith!

I read my first Wilbur Smith novel, When the Lion Feeds, when I was in my teens forty years ago. Since this first novel I have been an avid fan of Wilbur Smith, waiting eagerly for his next novel. I have read each more than once, produced a family tree of the Courtney's & Ballantynes and loved the Egyptian novels. I say this only to show that this review has been written by a life time fan and it hurts me to only give it one star. Readers not familiar with Wilbur Smith's previous work will probably find Those in Peril quite a good yarn, though it was extremely obvious by the end of the the first third what was going to happen. It was like watching a TV show made to fit in a one hour time slot. As a matter of fact, I would of made better use of my time watching trash TV than reading this offering from Wilbur Smith.

For those wanting a novel to read whilst on holidays that doesn't require too much intelligence and which will help you pass the time, then consider this but there are better books available. For those fans of Wilbur Smith, don't waste your money. Wait for the next one and hope he has come to his senses and rediscovers himself as a wordsmith. Sorry Wilbur, five stars for everything else you have written and one for Those in Peril.
