I loved this book. I'd seen the movie "Revenant" and my interest was peaked to read more about this adventurist man. He had an unusually hard life but it was very interesting to read. The book was well written and did not disappoint.

Interesting, fact-based story of a group of people that were instrumental in the exploration and settling of our nation. Sadly, it is yet another story of how the native Americans were exploited and lied to by our government.

The entire book was very interesting but it read like two different books. The first half describing the pirate years and the years with the Indians read like a novel but the second half and the entire attack by the bear was very lacking in 'dramatization' and just facts mostly. It felt like the author had an editor breathing down his neck for the book to be finished.
Good book just felt rushed at the end.
Revenant (Demonica) :: Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in 12 Months :: Swann's Way :: In Search Of Lost Time 6: Time Regained (Volume 6) :: Zeitoun

The book is very telling, after watching both movies it put things together. I sent it on to my grandson in Maryland because they don't learn western American history. They didn't even know about Lewis and Clark, so I have tried to give them the education you no longer get in this country.

When I downloaded the book and started reading, I wasn't aware that it was about the same character as the Revenant movie. I didn't find out until I was already 1/3 of the way through. By that time I was already enjoying it too much. The movie missed so much of such an interesting individual. Highly recommended.

A wonderful book about an incredible man by a great author. Bradley tells the story of Hugh Glass who lived a full life, encountering pirates, becoming a pirate, escaping pirates, living amongst the indians of the day and betrayal by his fellow man. Bradley paints a beautiful brutal picture of the American West in the early to mid 1800's. The different Indian tribes, the different Indian traditions, the honor and sometime complex way of life lets the reader get a sense of what it was like, before the Whites wiped out the Native Americans. Hugh lived amongst the Indians and was also an enemy of certain tribes, but always managed to escape death when it stared him in the eyes.
What a wild ride.

If you enjoy reading about the men who really settled the west and explored the vast wilderness of the Rockies, Hugh Glass is a great start. This is a very good written story of Hugh's life as a young, as a sailor to a mountain man. It was hard to put this book down, a must read.

Excellent book! I part of it before seeing the movie "The Revenant" and then finished it after seeing the movie. There are lots of differences in them, but I totally enjoyed both. This time period has lots of discrepancies due to poor reporting, so we don't really know for sure what did happen, but the book is very well written.

After seeing the movie I wondered how these men could survive. I also read the book of his life and it is one astounding tale. Given today's standard of surviving...we would be living under either French or English laws. Give the book a try and learn just how tough these men were. They opened the west for us...God bless them.

My husband and I enjoyed the story of Hugh Glass. We purchased the book as a result of seeing a program about him on the History Channel. Lots of those same things were in the book plus lots more. I feel the author took a considerable amount of artistic privilege with some of the items in the book but it was easy to detect the real facts and it all turned out to show that Hugh Glass was an amazingly adventurous, rugged, determined and versatile man. The author lets the reader know that he has taken some artistic license in the writing of the book . My husband and I liked the fact that Hugh Glass was portrayed as a man with a conscience. With all that in mind, I would highly recommend this book.

An eminently readable narrative of a fascinating man!

Mr Bradley tells a gripping tale of a man became a legend, and his writing style gives us insight into the Glass psyche.

No dull moments, but rather a nice pace.

Really good choice for my first electronic book. I have always been fascinated by the story of Hugh Glass an Mr Bradley brought it to life. Could not stop reading once I started. In this case, as usual fact is better than fiction, or the movie.

Considering other books and a movie (The Revenant, Leonardo DiCaprio), on Glass's life, this gives a far better image into it. A great read for those whom respect the wilderness life style and have spent any time alone in the mountains of the West.

I imagine few lives have contained so many varied life threatening experiences as Hugh Glass', and few more deserving of legendary status. As sailor, reluctant pirate, honorary Pawnee and fur trapper he time and again escapes death from pirates, cannibals, human sacrifice, Indian ambush, grizzly mauling and frozen wilderness. His fending for himself while dragging his torn broken body hundreds of miles after the grizzly mauling being the most miraculous. The author admittedly takes some liberties in creating a narrative that is much more readable than any recitation of the facts could be. But the essence and significant events are all based on well documented facts. It's a very readable telling of an amazing story.

Great subject but almost unreadable due to the amount of repetition (literally whole sections seemed like they were copied and pasted) and spelling/grammar errors. At one point the author even mixed up the names of an essential fort and a major antagonist. A high schooler could have edited this book better.

Simply awful. Full of speculative situations, made up dialog, and other imagintings of the writer as to the thoughts, actions, and feelings of the principals. In short, fiction attempting to be passed a biography (and poorly done fiction at that). Better off finding some original dime novels of the era.

This book is a riveting portrayal of how hard the pre wild west could be on people, it takes a long focus on several of the fiercest indian tribes of the time and looks inside the culture at how friendly indians could be and also how violent. Hugh Glass was a man reported dead numerous times and his indomitable will is what kept him alive. Read this book

After watching Leonardo DeCaprio in " The Revenant", I was even more curious about Hugh Glass. This book is a fascinating story of a man we would all like to meet...the bear mauling is just one of many amazing experiences he lived through. Highly recommended!
