John Flanagan produced a great series with the Ranger's Apprentice, you got to watch Will grow up and change, while each book covers a singular, but exciting quest or battle and ends in our hero learning many new skills and more about himself and his comrades.

In the Brotherband books, our hero, Hal, is well described and so are his companions, but they spend all of their time one one single quest and he seems to already have most of his skills, his intelligence already handed to him at the beginning of the series.

The books flounder with long stints in their brotherband school and more boring is their stay on an island, that has all our companions learning great skills in a month or two, unlike Will in the Ranger's Apprentice, who continued to hone his skills throughout the entire years of his life.

I guess what I'm saying is the series is too slow, and although Book 3 hasn't come out yet, it will I'm sure have our companions spending a lot of time chasing around a ship that should have been destroyed in Book 2.

Sorry Mr. Flanagan, I still like your writing style.

The outcasts are amazing when working together. I loved this book it has adventure and is funny. Hal is so creative. Together they can do anything. It goes to show you that just because you are different it doesn't mean you can't work together to accomplish things you need to do.

This book contains a lot of other information about Skandia. It also helps you understand the other series, Rangers apprentice more vividly. This book can give you the visual effect and the picture in your mind of what Skandia and other areas looked liked in this book. This book is a must read book, If you're a fan of the Ranger's apprentice series; you sure would love another novel from John Flanagan.
The Tournament at Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice - The Early Years) :: The Ghostfaces (The Brotherband Chronicles) :: The Battle of Hackham Heath (Ranger's Apprentice - The Early Years) :: Book 2 (The Brotherband Chronicles) - Brotherband Chronicles :: Adventurers Wanted, Book 5: The Axe of Sundering

The Outcasts: Brotherband Chronicles, Book 1Great escapist adventure for those who hate bullies and root for the underdog.

John Flanagan shows great imagination. Hal and his team do not win all the time and they are shown as quite ordinary but their ingenuity overall triumphs over muscle.

Looking forward to reading The Invaders.

The shipping was great and it was in excellent condition when I got it. It was a gift for my husband who loved the Ranger's Apprentice series so I thought he'd like this too...he's not excited to read it and still hasn't picked it up. So I don't know if the actual book is worth 5 stars but my experience buying it is. Thanks!

Really good, some part of this book too amazing. Pirates kill sailors and watchmen in two brief scenes and there's one significant fist fight among teen boys, but otherwise the focus is on teens coming together as a team.I like Hal Mikkelson ( main character of the series ) too much, he is half-Araluen and half-Skandian.

The Brotherband Chronicles is a very well told story of Hal and his various adventures with his Skanian crew. Hal is an excellent thinker, similarly to Will in the Rangers Apprentice series, while still managing to be his own independent character. The Brotherband Chronicles in general has a fair bit of sailing/sailing terms. General sailing knowledge will help the reader visualize what is happening in the story better, but not having a clue about sailing will not hinder the reader from grasping what is going on. If you enjoyed the Rangers Apprentice books you should appreciate this set of stories as well!
