This second prequel to the Ranger's Apprentice series is another Halt and Crowley adventure about their early years in the Rangers Corp. The evil Morgorath appears in this story as the Rangers strive to save the Araluens from destruction. A young but resourceful Gilan is introduced. Flanagan writes the stories about people and events that have been briefly mentioned in the RA books. Very entertaining. Can't wait for his next book!

John Flanagan has done it again. This was truly a great book I greatly enjoyed reading the Battle of Hackham Heath. I am a huge fan of the Ranger Apprentices series and was not disappointed in the siltiest by this latest addition. If you love the Ranger Apprentices book series then you will love this book. I feel like the author did a great job in helping us better understand the background of Halt and Crowley. It also showed the start of the relationship between Halt and his first apprentices. It had a good balance of action and adventure in the book. I don’t really have any complaints against this book. I was very quickly swept away by the adventure of the story. Overall this was a great book and I highly recommend it and hope I for a sequel.

We love the Ranger's Apprentice and the stories John Flanagan weaves. Excellent for our teenagers and for us adults. We've enjoyed the series immensely, recommend it to friends and family, and re-read them all the time.
Book 2 (The Brotherband Chronicles) - Brotherband Chronicles :: Scorpion Mountain (The Brotherband Chronicles) :: Book 3 (The Brotherband Chronicles) - Brotherband Chronicles :: Her Daughter's Dream (Marta's Legacy) :: The Ghostfaces (The Brotherband Chronicles)

This, is my opion is a very necesssary addition to the series . It interested me(a 10 year old) and my dad. It is somewhat lacking in the brilliant creativity of many other rangers apprentice+Brotherband books though.

Another rousing adventure by John Flanagan. The book flowed smoothly, and it had all the intelligent humor and action of the Ranger's Apprentice series. It felt like it was always part of the overall story, and not some afterthought or extra fluff.
