I have been having trouble with my son pooping on the potty. I thought tis book would help and I was a little disappointed. I also downloaded the kindle edition and I was a little upset there was more than one page on the screen. I thought that was a little confusing for my son.

My grandson loved this story. The child in the book had the same feelings about going poop as my grandson. It didn't take long before he was able to sit on the pot without being afraid. I would highly recommend this book.

This book is really about stool withholding and not the problem we had which was potty trained but refusing to sit on a potty to poop. Just with language and theme it seemed to be aimed at an older child (4-6 maybe?) and the illustrations aren't very good. I think it could be good for the right kid in the right situation but didn't help us out at all. - Just time and patience and the promise of his own library card did the trick.

I found this book very helpful to encourage pooping in the potty. It was easy for my 2.5 year old to understand. I think she could relate to the boy in the book. It didn't solve our problem as quickly as I hoped but she did start pooping in the potty within about 3 weeks of getting the book.

The stress that comes along with a child withholding #2 is pretty unbelievable. The fact that there are books out there to help is wonderful! This book is OK but it misses the mark. The kid may be scared to poop but he looks scary to me! The illustrations are angry looking. The rhythm of the words are an off beat. It gets the point across that, "I can't, I won't, no way" but combined it lacks flow. It's good enough to read along with all of our other bathroom reading as we try desperately to get our child to go #2. One day, I noticed the note from the child Psychologist in the beginning of the book. Dr. Earl Rectanus? Is that a joke? Is it pronounced, (wrecked-anus)?

My son has sensory anxiety disorder. He was terrified of pooping in the toilet for 4 years. We worked with an occupational therapist and a counselor to him over this fear. When my son first saw this book he could only listen to it. After a few days he could listen and look at the pictures. Then he started to carry the book around and looking at it in his own! This book was helping him get the coverage to over come his biggest fear! With the help of his support team and this book, he is able to go on the toilet! Thank you Tracey for wonderful book!

We thought this book would be perfect for our three-year-old who struggles with withholding. The title is apt, but the story is superficial and the rhymes are unnatural. The character eventually does poop on the potty, but the author doesn't explain the actions that got him there-- it simply "happened." I was looking for concrete actions my son could imitate. Also, the book is written in verse, with rhymes that are awkward: "You will be proud / (and your mom and dad, of course). / When you know without a doubt, / of your poops you are the boss.!"

In this situation, children don't listen to their poop come out, so they refuse to go. When we refuse to go, we are constipated. When we are constipated, Very hard poop called Hyaline is in your body. So just let your poops come out.

One of the least helpful books we bought for potty training. We don't want to teach our kids to say, "...I Won't. No Way!" We chose not to read it because it would put words in their mouths that aren't there. And the pictures are ugly. I guess if your kid is already doing this and you're desperate...go for it. It must work for some.

The language was like an adult trying to talk like a toddler. Instead of "poop", it said "poops". If the story didn't rhyme, it may have been more focused and direct. Some of the sentences and words could have been replaced with something that fit the story better.
My 3 year old does like the story. I still read it to him because a poorly written book about a little boy overcoming his battle with pooping on the toilet is better than nothing at all. But I am going to find another book that uses proper english and has a clear message.

The Kindle version is very poorly planned. You cannot flip pages like most other Kindle books - the pages are small reproductions of the book pages - almost as if someone just scanned in the pages and put four on the screen at once. The story seems dense, but I can't really speak to the story's value as the difficulty of using the kindle version completely frustrated my (tech savvy) toddler and she won't touch it. Waste of $5.00.

I was very hopeful, after reading many positive reviews. My son is 100% potty trained with #1, but has a fear of #2. First he would only poop in his diaper, and now he doesn't even want to do that. He cries and begs me for help to keep it in. We bought this book hoping it would help, but I think it is not nearly specific enough. And the setback... it taught my son to say "I can't, I won't, No way!" whenever we tried to put him on the potty. I find the book very vague and does not get into the issue of pain, discomfort, potential problems. It hasn't been helpful for us.
Also, the rhyming is a little off.

This book has two language choices I would have liked to know about before purchase...first use of the word butt. We don't use that word and I wouldn't have purchased the book had I known that reference was used. Second, the little boy would rather go to jail than poop. Well, my little guy has no idea what going to jail is. So, this will never even be used so I can't speak to effectiveness otherwise. Just wish it were more little one friendly for our house. Hoping to return as will never be used...

I was apprehensive about buying this based on some of the reviews, but while I agree the rhyming is a bit off at the end and the illustrations are pretty terrible, this is the one book that actually helped our son. We bought every potty book on the planet, but for some reason this one really resonated with him.

My 5 year old grandson was holding his bowel movements sometimes up to 3 weeks!! Then he would feel sick and it would hurt to go and he'd have accidents. He was miserable. He was NOT interested in this book so I read aloud to "myself" but he picked up a few phrases. With his doctor's help he is improving. Now when he comes over he wants to read the book because it's funny! So we have phrases like "you are the boss of your poops" and poop champion like in the book. Yesterday with his successes he asked for a trophy!!

Not much depth. Can kids really relate to this? I'll try it with my son, but I'm skeptical. I'll update my review if it helps. Rhyming was a little off at times, especially the end. Glad I only bought the Kindle version so I didn't spend as much.

I don't normally write reviews (with four kids at home-no time!),however, after reading some of the other reviews, I felt I needed to take the time to give this book a few good words. Every child is different, but after reading to four...I can't imagine there isn't a little guy or gal who wouldn't love this book! The first thing out of my four-year-old's mouth was: "That's silly! He doesn't want to poop!" He was delighted!
Our youngest has been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, as well as being on the autism spectrum. All of our children approached toilet training on their own unique time schedule, but we continue to struggle with #4 and "pooping."
I am quite sure this little guy wouldn't hold still for a detailed and technical discussion of things he should do, but he is absolutely delighted by the main character. His eyes lit up the moment he saw him. He loved the title because it caught his attention right away! The rhyming is developmentally appropriate and it helps him to "read along" with me. When he commented that the character was being "silly"-I could ask him why he thought that. When my little one won't poop...we can then discuss the main character and his feelings. The great thing is-the little guy in the book was successful and my little guy is successful. I think this book is well worth the investment. I have suggested it to several of my friends and I know they feel the same.

Using an artful and creative approach to an age old challenge, this book is an excellent tool for all parents dealing with this thorny issue. While there are many books on the subject, "I Can't, I Won't, No Way!" provides parents with a unique perspective in a fun package. Using this book has been so helpful and resulted in such great success that we've recommended it to family and friends alike. A must have for parents, grandparents, babysitters and others!

The author did a great job relating to children that have a withholding problem. It's a great tool for parent's,but is written so a four year old knows their not the only one. that just can't go on the potty.

This book help my daughter and I both understand the stress and strain bowel withholding can have on a family! My daughter has been struggling with this since she was an infant after an allergic reaction to diapers (she is now almost 6) and not even her doctors explained it such a useful way. (Oh ya they never explained it!!!) I have already recommended this book to one parent and will continue to due so. I wish I would have read this years ago!!!
