I first tried this with my middle child before he started potty training. He loved it almost instantly. The book helped him become more aware of himself and others and aided his ease into using the toilet. Yes, the "chamber pot" might not be contemporary, but he still made the connection. My youngest started reading his book and it also has helped her use the potty. But, this might be because "she" (21months) was much easier to train than my two oldest boys. She's very interested in the book, so I'm ordering the female verson.

My daughter loves this book for potty training. It is nice, shows the poo in the diaper and has really helped her! She really learned to sit after reading about how the girl SAT for a long time! It shows all the body parts which was also nice to talk about.

My just turned two daughter loves this book more than any other potty book. we haven't started training yet, but she likes to read this several times in a row and she calls out the girls body parts and understands there is an "oh, no!" when she accidentally goes on the floor. We change the names of the body parts and act of going to sit our family.

My kids absolutely love parts of this book (she sat and sat and sat, et al) and always seem to enjoy my reading it to them. But don't expect miracles to happen. My kids were NOT inspired enough to start using the potty after the 100th reading. But the book is still useful to get the dialogue going and the ball-rolling when it comes to potty training.

This book has great pictures and a good story, but my 21 month old was fascinated with the "uh oh" page. She completely understood that an accident could be outside of the potty and proceeded to have on purpose "uh ohs" like the book said. Day 3 we only read one potty book with no accidents and now on day 5, we have had two accident free days. I think an older toddler would understand more that it is saying accidents are okay if they happen, but my toddler sees things in black & white so it was no good for us.

we couldn't be happier with "once upon a potty" .. we received it, along with cotton trainers, when our girl was 22 months old ... she had already been exhibiting all the classic ready-for-pottying cues, with regular morning & after nap pee-pee-ing, so the addition of prudence's story was the icing on the cake that gave her the confidence to really go full-time for the potty.
it's a confidence booster, and we adore it ( though we did change the potty language to suit our family : no biggie! ) and it will be a treasured selection in her library forever.
alona, thank you for writing a smart book for smart kids.

A childhood favorite! I remember reading this with my cousin and grandma and making a game out of trying not to laugh first! Funny and cute! Old school, but effective! Bought this copy for my daughter.

My daughter's about 20 months and has been showing a lot of interest in the "potty." We aren't pushing potty training, but bought her this book to start getting her comfortable with the idea, and she really enjoys the story. She picks it out off of her shelf of many books and brings it to me to read to her. I like that it talks about body parts (not the names we use, but we use our family's vocabulary when we read), having accidents, and my favorite - washing your hands after you go!

I had this book growing up and was actually looking for it when it came time to potty train my daughter. The book does a great job of walking the child through the steps of potty training and doesn't make them feel bad for having accidents. My daughter has been potty trained fully for about a year now and she still pulls this book out for us to read it to her.

I think this book must contain some magic, because my daughter loved it, still loves it and always talks about prudance. She wanted to use the potty like her, great book to get girls interested in the potty.

This is an okay story for potty training. Yes, it is a chamberpot and not a modern-looking potty, but my 25 month old had no problem understanding that it is a potty. I like the story. The only complaint, though it is a big one, is from my husband. He is a very active father and doesn't like this story because it's all about "I, Prudence's mother" and there is no father in the story. So this would be good for a single mother, but not for a two-parent family working on potty training. We also bought "My Big Girl Potty" by Joanna Cole, and he likes that better because BOTH mom and dad help with potty training.

My daughter loves the Once Upon a Potty Video but likes looking at the pictures of this book even more. It's a great learning aid and is indeed a cute story of how Prudence goes from learning to use a potty, to becoming a proudly potty-trained little girl!

For some reason, this book gets through where all the other coaching and prodding does not. Kids love it. Had a copy for my daughter when she was little, and now buying this one for her to use with my granddaughter.
