This is no. 3 in the 'In Death ' series. Having recently started the series, I find them absorbing and become totally at one with the story. 'Immortal' ties up Eve's past demons, weds the lustful Roarke, and gives an insight to Sommerset. The murders are inventive and the relationships are real. The sex is great too! I love them and am plowing through the books at a rapid rate. Great discovery.

Immortal in Death (In Death, Book 3) In this exciting third book on tape. Susan Ericksen brings the characters to life once again. Eve's about to get married but a murder gets in the way, will Eve and Rourke get hitched or not? We find out more about Dallas' past and we find out that there is rivalry in the different divisions. It was well worth the price of the audiobook.

I love this series! Every time I finish a book, I can't wait to pick up the next one. Perfect blend of mystery, suspense, romance and emotion. Not too mention laugh out loud funny! I highly recommend this to any reader.

I am honestly becoming addicted to this series! I have read seven so far. The series ran out at my local library, so I started purchasing from the store after I purchased my Kindle Fire. Is this heaven or what!!

I have read the first 4 books in a short time, and would have gone for the 5th if hadn't been given a book to read from a friend, will be continuing with the series as soon as I finish this book. Love the characters and each books stories.

I find the entire J D Robb (Nora Roberts) series the best most interesting reading I've ever had. I'm in the process of purchasing the entire series (4 books at a time). My only disappointment will be when I finish the series and have no where else to go.

i have read and enjoyed about two thirds of the "Death" series and short stories and continue to enjoy them. Even though you know that Dallas will solve the murder, it is fun to try to figure it out. Well worth the time.

I am a huge JD Robb/Nora Roberts fan. This book was great!! I am slowly making my way through the "In death" series and will be ordering the next one. Robb is one of a kind. Her books have humor, relationships, and alot of good reading.

I started purchasing this series for my mom, but have realized that this series is fantastic. Hard to find copies are easy to locate on the store and I'm always guaranteed to find a great price on large print books. This series and the ease of the store are highly recommended! (The fast/free shipping with Prime is a plus as well).

Since I retired from the general workforce, I have been reading ALOT! Someone suggested that I try the store for used books and I am very glad they did. The book I ordered is part of an on-going series and I missed the first several "installments" and needed to catch up. I will definately be buying more books this way. It's inexpensive and so far very reliable.

By the way, this is really a romance hiding under the disguise as a mystery/thriller. Unbelievably cliché, the main character, the woman police detective, is a one-dimensional and contrived character. And very graphic sex scenes that Penthouse letters would love to publish. The only redeeming value is the author is very good with descriptions.

Today’s post is on Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb. It is 345 pages long and is published by Berkley. It is the third in her …In Death series so you need to have read the first two to understand the story. The cover is copper with the middle having different scenes from the book on it. The intended reader is someone who has read the first two, likes light science fiction, and dark mysteries. There is foul language, sex, and violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character Eve. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- She was one of the most sought-after women in the world. A top model who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted -- even another woman's man. And now she was dead, the victim of a brutal murder. Police lieutenant Eve Dallas put her professional life on the line to take the case when suspicion fell on her best friend, the other woman in the fatal love triangle. Beneath the facade of glamour, Eve found that the world of high fashion thrived on an all-consuming passion for youth and fame. One that led from the runway to the dark underworld of New York City where drugs could fulfill any desire -- for a price . . .

Review- This novel picks up very closely to the end of the second one with Eve and Roarke going to get married. Eve is still very nervous about how serious Roarke is about their relationship and everything about her. It is making her remember things that she does not want to. So when Eve’s best friend is in trouble, Eve is glad to have something else to think about. The mystery is good with lots of twists and Eve’s passion to stop a murderer is compelling but when you add in character development, you get a very interesting read. Eve remembers much about her childhood and it is a hard part to read but the catharsis for Eve and the reader is very good. I know that Robb sold this originally as a trilogy so I am a little concerned about where the series can go from here and if it can continue to be as good as the first three but I will discover that soon enough.

I give this novel a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this book from my local library.

This series keeps getting better! In Immortal in Death, Eve is getting ready for her upcoming wedding. But everything is interrupted when her dress designer’s ex-lover is found dead by her best friend who is also the prime suspect. Eve’s informant had also been found dead in the same manner. The only other connection between the two is some unknown drug, so now she’s got a big case on her hands.

Immortal in Death‘s mystery kept me hooked as to be expected. It’s fascinating to me what people will do for youth, sex, and money. Of course, I had to play along and I chose my suspect early on, although things along the way had me doubting. But this time, everything felt more complicated. There’s more players and more connections, and I was totally wrong.

Aside from the mystery, Immortal in Death goes deeper into Eve’s past. We’ve gotten glimpses in the previous two books, but now her memories are emerging. She’s suffering from horrible nightmares, and one night all is finally revealed to her. It’s truly awful and sickening and I cannot even being to imagine being suddenly faced with all of that after not knowing for over twenty years. I am proud of Eve for talking it out though rather than keeping it bottled up. She has an amazing support system and I was glad they were there for her during this.

I am well and truly addicted to this series already. And I’m in need of more Roarke! I feel as if we don’t know him any better than we did in the first book, so I hope that changes soon.

I enjoy listening to this series as I drive around in the car. Susan Erickson is great, and I especially love the voices of Peabody and Roark. As many reviewers have said, these books are not great literature. It helps me avoid listening to the depressing news. Generally, I enjoy the futuristic aspect of the series, although it is silly that people are still passing "disks" around containing information, and struggling with an antiquated NYC subway system. More silly - people flying to other planets in one day. The series is only 50+ years in the future! And Rourk can literally buy anything, and does. But this is sort of fun, even though unbelievable. I fast forward through the sex scenes between Eve and Roark. They sound like a Playboy article from the 1960's, and are sort of ridiculous.

But here's the biggest defect in this book. Roark lights up a cigarette while having a conversation with Eve. This has happened twice so far in this book, and I'm about halfway through. Seriously? Will people be smoking cigarettes in 2059?Even in 2018, anyone who is well-informed knows that smoking is offensive and kills the people who do it. What was Roberts thinking? I know this was an early book - but still........

However, the Death series is fun crime fiction , even if it is predictable. The characters are rather comforting to listen to. That's all I want when I'm driving around. I have listened to at least 15 of these books, and I will probably listen to every one in the series. I get them from the public library. I buy lots of books from the store, but wouldn't spend money on these.

Preparing for a wedding is always a stressful time for any couple but when you're as gun shy about relationships as Eve is it only makes things worse. While Eve is busy stressing about the future and whether her and Roarke can really go the distance Roarke is worrying about whether Eve will actually turn up on the big day. Finding out her best friend Mavis is the main suspect in a very high profile murder investigation is just the icing on the cake for Eve. At least now she's got a genuine reason to avoid all the wedding organisation but if she fails to find the real murderer then her best friend's life is at stake.

I think Immortal in Death was my favourite book in the series so far, it contains all the action and mystery of the previous book but with some really fantastic character growth on Eve's part too. We're to build a bigger picture of what happened to her as a child now that she's starting to regain her memories and it explains a lot about her personality. She's also thawing out a little as she lets Roarke in which was nice to see. She still finds it very hard to express her feelings and there are times when she unintentionally hurts him by not thinking before she speaks but she's come a long way and is finally able to admit how she feels. Roarke has been incredibly understanding about her behaviour so far but his patience is starting to pay off and I love the two of them together.

I enjoyed the suspense side of the story too but I have to admit I'd had a bad feeling about one particular character from very early on so I had been able to guess who was behind everything. I hadn't figured out exactly how it all tied together though and I still enjoyed seeing Eve work her magic as she tried to prove her friend's innocence. It's nice to see that Eve's social circle is growing a little and it seems like now she's opened herself up to Roarke she's finding it easier to let other people in too. I really like Peabody and think she's going to be fun as the series continues but Mavis is probably my favourite of her friends. Eve and Mavis are so completely different but their friendship just works and I love how supportive they are of each other. Eve never doubts Mavis's innocence and she will do whatever it takes to prove it to the rest of the world.

I'm having a lot of fun reading this series and I'm excited to have so many more books still to read before I get caught up.

With Eve and Roarke’s wedding looming, Eve’s nerves were jittering – and having her wedding dress made by one of Mavis’ friends who was a designer was up there with something she would have to force herself to attend. But she would. When a connection to that designer was found brutally murdered with all fingers pointing at a friend of Eve’s, she was understandably distraught. But she also knew she would find the answers and quickly…

When the investigation led into the world of illegal drugs and the obsession of youth; of immortality, Eve found herself in the underworld of New York – and danger. Would she find the answers to clear her dearest friend? And would her wedding go ahead?

Immortal in Death is #3 in the In Death series and a re-read for me – and just as good as the first time! Loved getting to know Peabody as she started her time with Eve; love the wit and sarcastic humour, the vulnerability of Eve – everything! A brilliant series which I’m enjoying all over again! Highly recommended.

Well I'm not sure if it was the narrator for the audiobook or if I should just take a break from this series but the story was lacking for me. There were some dialogues that were so cheesy, and overdone by the narrator, I had to all but roll my eyes. I was quite disappointed with the turn of events, I almost felt like that 80% of the story was wasted on events and characters that had no importance at all to the investigation or the story.
This is the first book where she calls Roarke Ace. I'm not sure where it came from, out of nowhere she calls him Ace, once, and that is it. It think she calls someone else Ace too (Feeney or Casto, or I don't know who else...).. and talking about Casto and being Eve such a big enforcer of rules, I don't know why she didn't throw down a charge of sexual harassment on him when he started with his advances, that was just another misstep on this story. Oh well.
I will take a break, come back to it later... hoping this one was just a fluke.
No audiobooks next time, that narrator didn't do it form. Nope.

I got hooked from the first In Death book released back in the mid 90's...shhhh we don't talk bout age anymore ;) Through the years I have only been disappointed in 1 book by Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb in this series and yes I buy every...single...book..since the first one and often use the summers to read them again. I have watched some of the futuristic things come to pass with Ms. Roberts as a visionary and been delighted by them...I have loved Roarke for over twenty years...This series is wonderful in being futuristic and procedural as well as romance. I have found nothing in any genre to compare these books to.

It's almost irritating that I'm three books into this series and can't find a single thing to complain about. Knowing there's already roughly 40 books in the series, I don't expect to read them all in a row. I had planned to read the first couple of novels, then I said "one more." Now I've read the first 3, and I'm thinking "one more." I'm really getting hooked on Eve and Roarke. And not just them; the cast of secondary characters get more interesting in each story, as well. The murders are also getting more difficult to solve. In the first book, Naked in Death, I figured out fairly early on who the culprit was. It's gotten trickier since then. This time around, as soon as the murderer was introduced, I thought it was him. I'm naturally suspicious of any new characters at this point. lol. But as the story went on, I decided there were others that it probably was. And right at the point when I was 100% sure that it wasn't him after all, we find out it's him. Unbelievable. I got led around in circles with Immortal In Death and I have to admit, it was quite fun. The In Death series is entertaining, well written, and interesting. I can't think of a better way to spend my reading time.

I have been a huge fan of Nora Roberts books over the years. I had heard of these books written by her under the name J.D. Robb. I admit to having some trepidation about reading them due to how different they were from her typical writing style. I was afraid that I would dislike them and that would stain my opinion of Nora Roberts from that point on. Boy, have I never been so happy to be wrong before!! I cannot believe that I almost passed up reading these books! To be honest, I may struggle to go back to the other writing style of Nora Roberts after these books. I cannot put into the proper words how much I am loving these books!! A strong female lead is found in Lieutenant Eve Dallas. She is a perfect role model for young women to look up to. Not only is there a strong female lead, which seems to be lacking in many romance novels, but there is a strong male lead found in the delicious Roarke. I love that Eve can kick some serious butt, but also has this soft, vulnerable side for those closest to her. I love the comedic moments found in the books as well. Top it all off with some gruesome murder, and I would say that these books cover all bases for me. I find joy in the fact that these books keep me up at night just wanting to "get a few more pages in". Nora Roberts/ J.D. Robb: you are my hero! I will be a fan till the end! Long live Eve Dallas and Roarke!!

Immortal In Death is the third book in J.D. Robb’s In Death series. Even though this story takes place in 2058, it’s one that even today we read about in any newspaper on any given day, or watch on prime time news: Drugs. They make you feel good. Make you feel young. Make you think you’re immortal.

Cover Blurb...

She was one of the most sought after women in the world. A top model who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted - even another woman's man. And now she was dead, the victim of a brutal murder. Beneath the façade of glamour, Eve found that the world of high fashion thrived on an all-consuming obsession for youth and fame. One that led from the runway to the dark underworld of New York City where drugs could be found to fulfill any desire - for a price . . .

And, well...

I’ve run out of words to use to express how much I love this series, so at the risk of repeating myself, I’ll repeat myself: The books are… Intriguing, exciting, captivating, sexy… absolutely incredible!

Lieutenant Eve Dallas of NYPSD is trying to clear her best friend Mavis Freestone of murder charges. Eve has to push hard on this one because it's personal. Eve is also planning her wedding to Roarke as well. She's trying to balance both parts of her life and coping with nightmares of the past which she's hiding from Roarke. We also gain some insight into Summerset's character. Eve enters the world of high fashion and celebrities where getting ahead can be deadly. A new designer drug called Immortality is central to Eve's investigation. Eve brings in Officer Peabody to help her with the cases. Can Eve clear Mavis? Will Eve's past continue to haunt her? Who is Summerset? Who's the real killer? Your answers await you in Immortal in Death.

I didn't see the killer in this one like I did in the last book. I was truly stunned by who the killer was. I'm still reeling from this one. Eve's past reveals itself in atypical fashion crashing Summerset's world. Roarke and Eve relationship is continuing to build with good results. I look forward to the next book in the series~Rapture in Death.

I own this series in book form, and I'm currently on my third trip through them while waiting on the next one! I always see something new in each one, and as I've said many times, this series is off the charts! This one has Eve accumulating more people around her in her personal world. It is soooooooo hilarious that she's afraid of her hair dresser,Trina brings some cute funny into the story. The love between Eve and Roarke is really beautiful, and sometimes amusing! I love this series!!!! The wedding was just right!

It's not nice to mess with Eve's friends.

This is the book where Leonardo is introduced as Mavis love interest. Mavis wakes up next to the dead body of the woman she had fought with two times. Mavis calls Dallas for help. Dallas always loyal, goes to work.

The murderer is slick but not as smart as Eve.

In the end Roark and Eve get married.

At the end of the previous book, "Glory in Death", Roarke proposed to Lieutenant Eve Dallas after they were both involved in a life-threatening situation with a dangerous killer. Nora Roberts, writing as J.D. Robb, shocks us right from the start of this book, when we find that Eve accepted the marriage proposal! For those of you that have read the previous novels, this must come as much of a surprise as it was for me. Eve has always had trouble accepting the fact that she was in love, so it was almost unthinkable that she would be willing to share her life with the billionaire Roarke. However, this sets the tone for the things to come in this book, where we will find out several interesting facts from Eve and Roarke's past. These tidbits of information help us make sense of the attitudes we witnessed from several of the main characters in the past.
This time, the crimes Eve has to investigate are very close to home. Eve's best friend, Mavis, has convinced her to consult with designer Leonardo about her wedding dress. Mavis is in a relationship with the designer, and facing a very jealous ex-girlfriend, Pandora, who is literally fighting to get Leonardo back. One night, Mavis calls Eve in a frantic state from Leonardo's study and asks for help. She had found Pandora, the supermodel with which she had a big fight hours ago, lifeless on the study floor. Eve sets out to find out the culprit and clear her friend. In the meantime, one of Eve's informants turns up dead too, and the investigation leads to a new and deadly drug.
Robb has created a wonderful setting for her mysteries, New York in the year 2058, and has perfected the mix with some great characters, making this one hell of series. In this particular case, besides the "usual suspects", we are introduced to the character of detective Peabody, Eve's new partner after Feeney's promotion as captain of another division.
Even though I think there is a clear advantage of reading this series in order, and grasp the complexities and personal history of each character, the books stand well on their own. Moreover, J.D. Robb does a great job in describing the futuristic world efficiently through examples intertwined in the narration of the events, without making it boring for those of us who are already aware of what the "rules" are. Whether you try this book on its own or you start from the beginning of the series with "Naked in Death", I can guarantee that you will enjoy reading about Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her friends.

This is one of a character book series, featuring an in the future homicide detective hardened by abuse as a child and her resolution of that problem who meets an Irish street/gangster turned legitimate and extremely wealthy [but retaining all his former skills and associations]. He romances her, breaks through her defenses, and together they form a love couple, crime-stopping team amongst the likes of The Thin Man duo, McMillan & Wife, "Bones" and Booth, and Castle and Beckett. Throughout the series, J.D. Robb [companion pen name of Nora Roberts] briefly revisits the nightmare past of Cpt. Eve Dallas soothed with a Roarke who is there to hold and comfort her; then her comfort for him when he finds family out of his own nightmares. The supporting characters are delightfully developed and, seemingly unexpectantly, Dallas, with Roarke's support, also finds a family.

My recommendation concerning this J.D. Robb [Nora Roberts] ".... in Death" book series is not to start here with this book, but to visit Ms. Roberts website, [...], click on the J.D. Robb book list, and start reading the series in chronological order. This is not necessary at all, but I think it is preferable. Ms. Robb [Roberts] has a gift of being able to not only compose characters with depth and imprinted with personalities, strength and foibles that intrigue and envelop a reader which are consistent throughout the series, but also to create sound, convincing story plots and feasible police technique [and squad interworking] as well.

Finally, Ms. Robb's [Roberts'] abilities allow the reader to sink into the drama, successfully creates the illusion for a reader of having a compatibility with the actors and action, and the truest test of this writer's skill and the series' success... You hate to finish the book and immediately look for the publication of the next book.

Immortal in Death is the third installment in JD Robb's (aka Nora Roberts) In Death Series. It begins with two seemingly unrelated homicides, one in which the heroine Eve Dallas' best friend, Mavis, is a suspect. As Eve tries to get to the bottom of it to clear her best friend, more bodies start to pile up and the evidence against Mavis builds. There's also the excitement of the impending nuptials of Eve and Roarke peppered throughout, along with the steamy, hot romance for which Roberts is known.

I absolutely loved the first two novels in this series, but I have to say that I didn't care for this one as much.

There are aspects of Immortal that I loved, such as the amazing character development with Eve, and finally getting to know her whole story. Her tenacity, courage and survival are remarkable and I was nearly brought to tears when she finally remembered and told Roarke all of what happened to her in the past. I also loved the developing relationships -the working relationship between Eve and Peabody, the cute new love between Mavis and Leonardo, and the love/hate relationship between Eve and Summerset. We also get a glimpse into the inner Roarke, and I have a feeling that there's more to come in that regard.

Then there are the things that I did not like. With the first two novels, I thought that Robb/Roberts achieved a perfect balance of murder mystery and romance. However, with Immortal, I found myself very, very bored with the investigation and longing for more Eve and Roarke. I figured out who the culprit was about halfway into the book and after that, the "mystery" just dragged on and on. The wedding and honeymoon were rushed, I felt, and the way the wedding passage switched into something else (trying not to give away too much here) was weird and took away from what should have been a special moment. And why interrupt the wonderful honeymoon with what happens at the end? The love and romance between Eve and Roarke has been slowly building, and it seemed that the happy ending was a little anticlimactic.

Something smaller bothered me as well. As an African American, I found it disturbing that Robb/Roberts refers (more than once) to a black male in the novel as, "a seven-foot black." Black is an adjective, not a noun. And in Glory in Death, she compared a black man to an "enormous gazelle," and the character's dialect was devoid of any proper grammar. Perhaps I'm oversensitive, but I found this to be very upsetting and took away from the novel for me.

All in all, it was an okay read and I may read more of the series. I feel really sad writing that because after the first two books, I couldn't get enough. Now, I think I may have had my fill. I liked it, but didn't love it. I know some readers will disagree with my review and won't find it very "helpful," but hey, it's how I feel.

Update: I guess I was a little more put off by the "seven foot black" and the ruined/interupted wedding & honeymoon than I thought. I tried to get into the next book in the series, Rapture in Death, but just couldn't do it. Definitely done with Nora Roberts/JD Robb.

"Getting married was murder. Eve wasn't sure how it had happened in the first place. She was a cop, for God's sake". Those are the first phrases of "Immortal in death", the 3rd book in the "In death" series. That should give you a good clue of what is going to happen in this book, namely that police officer Eve Dallas is going to marry, and to nobody else than Roarke!

If you have read the previous books in the series, something I recommend you to do in order to fully enjoy this one, you will know that Eve is still a little confused with the fact that she fall in love, and with a billionaire no less. Roarke, on the other hand, knows exactly what he wants: Eve. And he got her agreement to marry him in a very unorthodox way, in the most unlikely situation (do you remember the last pages of "Glory in death"?). Now, there is a wedding to plan, and a wedding gown to buy. Of course, Eve couldn't be moodier, because she would rather fight a criminal than go shopping :)

Thankfully for her, the crime of a supermodel in which both her best friend Mavis and her wedding fashion designer Leonardo are involved will keep her mind busy, as she tries to find the true culprits and acquit her friend Mavis and Leonardo, Mavis'new lover and previous boyfriend of the dead supermodel, Pandora. In the course of Eve's investigation, she will discover that Pandora's death may be just the tip of the iceberg, as she was involved in shady dealing involving a new and dangerous youth drug.

In my opinion, this is probably one of J. D. Robb's best books in her futuristic "In death" series. The mystery behind Pandora's crime isn't easily solved, so you won't be able to stop reading this book until the very last page. Also, the relationship between Eve and Roarke is developed, and you will learn more about their troubled pasts. And finally, some eccentric new characters that we will see again in future books are introduced, so pay attention to them. On the whole, "Immortal in death" is the kind of book you should buy, read and keep. Enjoy it !!

Eve and her rich fiance Roarke are about to get married, but that doesn't mean all is puppies and rainbows. Mavis, Eve's best friend, talks Eve into using Mavis's new fashion maven boyfriend as her wedding dress designer, but dear Leonardo turns out to be the start of Eve's latest case. Or rather, his ex-lover (a famous model) is, when she turns up dead in Leonardo's flat after an argument, and Mavis is found unconscious near the body, her fingerprints on the murder weapon.

Once again Eve finds herself trying to walk a fine line between her duty as a cop and her loyalty to the people she cares about. She sets off into a world of models and actors, business and crime, drugs and beauty. At stake is nothing less than immortality---or rather, Immortality, a new drug that promises youth, beauty, energy, power.

While Eve and Roarke's relationship still sizzles, there's a bit more attention paid this time to the difficulties of trying to deal with something as big as marriage when two such headstrong loners are involved. Eve's childhood memories also rear up to smack her full-out this time, and the reader isn't spared any details. The things that happened to her as a child were horrific, and not everyone will feel comfortable reading about them, even though they're handled in a non-prurient and non-sensationalistic manner.

This mystery kept me guessing much longer than the previous one, which I very much enjoyed. There was plenty of misdirection and guilt to go around, confounding the guessing game beautifully. I love Roberts's heady mix of futurism, mystery, romance, mild erotica, and sharp personalities.

Many readers know that there are authors that release books under a second pen name like Stephen King has his writing alter ego, Richard Bachman, and the late Evan Hunter also wrote under the pseuodnym Ed McBain. Another such famous writer with two famous sides in Nora Roberts, a well-known romance novelist who also writes under the name J.D. Robb.

Over the course of more than 20 plus books (counting the book Remember When, which is an ambitious "co-authoring" by both Roberts and Robb) Robb has given readers an adventurous look at the future of crime and detectives in the form of Lieutenant Eve Dallas, one of the best officers of the NYPSD in the middle point of the first century of the current millennium. Throughout the series, Dallas is a tough as nails cop that has definite vulnerabilities due to the fact that she was sexually abused when she was a child by her father and has little to no knowledge of her life save for that. The only constants in Eve's life (besides work) are her close friends and her lover Roarke, who was originally a suspect in the very first book, Naked in Death.

In this, the third book of Robb's "In Death" series, the story picks up nearly immediately after the events of Glory in Death when Roarke proposed to Dallas. We find the she accepted the proposal and is trying to balance trying to get ready for her wedding with the help of Roarke and her closest friend, Mavis. When Dallas goes to visit Leonardo, Mavis' boyfriend and a top designer who has agreed to make Eve's dress, she unwittingly gets involved in an altercation with a high fashion model named Pandora, who reveals that she is Leonardo's lover. A few days later, Pandora is found dead in Leonardo's shop and due to an argument at a party, Mavis is the prime suspect.

With the case now getting personal, Eve must try her best to solve the case while trying to remain impartial, get her wedding arrangements in order, and uncover a secret drug ring within the world of high fashion involving something called Immortality.

This book has some unique page-turning moments and shows us that for Eve, life as a police detective who is about to be married to one of the richest men in the known world is going to be somewhat difficult but as she has shown in the past, she will be able to handle it her own way.

This is one time that being Immortal is worth it...

Not one of my favorites of the series--I'm not sure if it's because of all the little nits that bugged me, or if I noticed all the little nits because it's not one of my favorites.

The biggest thing is that I can't buy that Eve, no matter how great a cop she is, would be allowed to head a murder investigation when her best friend is the primary suspect.

Other nits:
Eve uses magnolias to describe one character's voice and another character's skin, yet doesn't recognize petunias.
There's no reason for Leonardo to wonder if he's killed someone when he wakes up, other than to provide a red herring.
Roarke admits sleeping with Pandora, yet elsewhere, Pandora's described as only sleeping with men who are easily manipulated.
And of course the irritating "that's so first millennium" line, when you know they're not talking about 1 - 1000 A.D.

Also, even though I've read this probably a dozen times, I still get the characters mixed up.

And Eve's reaction to the revelation from her personal life was just goofy. I buy that she'd have trouble coming to terms with it, but the specifics didn't make a lot of sense.

The mystery was pretty decent--the new drug, the overkill murders, but there wasn't much development on the relationship side, either, which is probably another reason for liking this one a bit less.

This is a series that I NEVER get tired of reading...over...and over again. There is nothing like a full novel written by Nora Roberts to make for an entertainingly scrumptious story that pulls you in and makes you feel homesick in between installments. And, when that installment comes out and you finally have a chance to read it, your back at home with life, death, intrigue and love.

You gotta love Roberts. She makes the best characters and stories.

Also, let me say that Susan Erickson's right on, talented and engrossing professional narration of Roberts' books is like icing on the cake. If you love the book, try it again with the audio enhancements...truly entertaining!

The love between Roarke and Eve continues to grow as the series continues, and right along with them my love grows as well. Their interactions with one another and the smart remarks makes me smile and hopeful, but anyways...I love how this novel started off different from the other two. Maybe I assumed that it was her thing to start the books off with a murder scene...kinda like "Law & Order: SVU", but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it didn't go that way. I loved the novel. Was kinda confused about the title until the name of the drug came into play and it made perfect sense. Just like the last novel, I figured out who the killer was, but the twists and turns she sent me through had me second-guessing my choice for a minute. I loved everything about this novel and can't wait to start on the next.

"Immortal in Death" by J.D. Robb is the third instalment in the "In Death" series and it does not disappoint. We continue to learn more about Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYPSD and her billionaire fiancé, Roarke. The book is set in the year 2058, and though there are many cool new gadgets and technologies, human nature remains the same. The futuristic setting adds a fresh new perspective, yet never detracts from the main storyline.
In this book, Eve's flamboyant best friend, Mavis Freestone, has been accused of murdering a top model. Eve is determined to find the true killer and prove Mavis' innocence, and so she goes into overdrive doing just that. Eve turns up a connection to a new illegal drug, which benefits the user with restored youthfulness, but is also highly addictive and fatal! Now it is up to Eve to connect the dots that lead to a killer, and save her best friend!
This book is thrilling, suspenseful, fun, and full of great passion between Eve and Roarke. Robb blends the romance with the suspense seamlessly and I am in awe of her ability to create vivid and true-to-life characters who become completely real to the reader. Eve is a wonderfully strong woman, with a past full of dark and troubling secrets. Roarke is the perfect match for her and getting to know these two has been a wonderfully rewarding experience. You will not regret buying a single book in this series, so buy them all today and enjoy!

I do not like getting into plot in my reviews. Simply put this is a well written book about characters who you care about and who you have gotten to know pretty well by this novel (the third in the series). The basic nature of the series is a kind of three way mix of sci-fi, detective, and romance. They are a bit light on the sci-fi and a bit heavy on the romance. Simply put they are 1 part each sci-fi and romance and 2 parts detective story. Being a middle aged guy I suspect that I am not part of the target demographic but I have really been enjoying this series immensely. If you enjoy detective stories and or light romance/light sci-fi you should give the series a try.

In "Immortal in Death," Dallas is preparing for her wedding when a local supermodel is murdered and Dallas's best friend, Mavis, becomes the prime suspect. Also suspect is Mavis's boyfriend, Leonardo, who just happens to be the designer of Dallas's wedding dress. While investigating the murder and digging up the dirt on the fashion world, Dallas discovers that the model (and most of the suspects) are either consuming or dealing a new and illegal youth serum.
This, obviously, is the key to the murder mystery, and Robb does a very good job at keeping us guessing. Although she wraps it up a bit to tidily, she does make it hard to figure out who the villain is.
Robb makes Mavis's character more complex and in-depth, and brings in Peabody, a new cop from her previous novel. Peabody becomes Dallas's aide (partner in training) in this novel and is a good foil for Dallas's hardness and intensity. Robb creates a really good chemistry between Dallas and Peabody that yields several witty and sarcastic exchanges.
One of the better parts of this book is the tangent on Sommerset, Roarke's butler. He and Dallas are perpetually sparring and, until this the third book in the series, have a true dislike of each other. Sommerset gives Dallas a hard dressing down for how she handles Mavis's case. And Roarke explains to Dallas how he and Sommerset came to work together, creating a tale that would in itself be an interesting novella. (And this little segment adds a lot of depth to Roarke's character.) This sets us up for some excitement between Roarke and Sommerset when Sommerset learns some of Eve's secrets. And it builds the foundation for some very entertaining exchanges in future novels of this series.
This is one of Robb's better books. Fast-paced, humorous, suspenseful, and entertaining.

I found this book to be extremely entertaining. I am loving how the story line between Eve and Rourke just keeps going to different levels. I love how Eve just keeps learning new things about who she is now and what lies back in her past.

In this book you are meeting only what I can assume to be new people that are going to continue throughout the books. I think Mavis is a crazy but special lady who really knows who she is. I think Peabody is learning how to become a good homicide detective being under the wing of her "Sir", and Feeney, don't we all wish we could be as masterful at the computer as he is.

In this book you are beginning to see that Eve is more than ever trusting Rourke with more than just her heart. He is going to know the secrets to her past. Will he still be able to marry her when he finds out who and what Eve Dalls is?

Along with all the characters there is also a story of sex, power, money and drugs going on and one of Eve's closest finds herself in DEEP trouble. Will Eve let her personal feelings get in the way or will she be able to save her beloved friend from being charged with Murder? This was a quick read for me and more than ever I am hooked on the Eve Dallas Series!

The main characters introduced in Naked in Death are once again fleshed out more in this installation. Another likeable character is introduced, Delia Peabody. She's an excellent addition to a strong cast.

In my opinion Immortal is a great read. I've read it three times now. The plot is masterful. The suspense and conflict are first rate. Most importantly to me, though, is how emotional and touching it is.

This series of books is addictive.

As I stated in my review of Naked in Death, as this series progresses the characters deepen and many more noteworthy and loveable characters emerge.

If you haven't read the 'in Death' series, you're denying yourself hours of entertainment and enjoyment. Take the advice I was given, though, and read them in order.

Thank you Ms. Robb!

I enjoyed this 'In Death' book, but not as much as the previous two.
Lieutenant Eve Dallas has a murder of a 'weasel' (snitch) and the murder of one of the hottest models on the runway. When the murders look to be connect, Eve digs deeper to try to find the connection that will point to the murderer. The only connection she has is a new drug called Immortal. She also has her best friend, the quirky Mavis, charged with the murder of the model. Mavis' motive was clear. The model, Pandora, threatened to ruin Leonardo, the up and coming fasion designer unless he dumped Mavis and came back to her. While Eve is unraveling the mystery between the murders, she is also trying to help Roarke plan their wedding, which is not her cup of tea. When she starts having nightmares about her childhood, she tries to convince Roarke that they should put off their wedding. She doesn't want to use him and she's very afraid that's what she's doing. Then, on the night before her wedding, she realizes that they love and need each other, and nothing will stop them from getting married. That is before the case she thought was closed all blows up.
This book had a lot more factual information than the other two books. There was a lot on plants and hogroculture (sp?) that kind of lost me. The emotion was brought into the book with Eve's wrestling with her consious about her childhood and finally coming to terms and accepting her feelings for Roarke. I definitely can't wait to pick up the next book!

It’s funny to me that even though this story was written back in 1996, the topic is still very much relevant. The story isn’t stale; I can dive into this world, and feel like it is new and fresh.

Robb wrote it as a futuristic world and it still is, but the crimes are still very much in the now. I love this futuristic world of Eve Dallas, and she is quickly becoming an ultimate bad-ass-chick I can’t wait to visit....Sara

This book sees Eve in one of her most horrifying predicaments to date. She must balance career and romance, head and heart or risk losing herself amid the chaos that is her life...

It's hard enough trying to plan a wedding.... it's even harder still when you're Eve Dallas, tough-nosed "nothin' girly about me!" Cop Chick! Toss in a murder and make her best friend the prime suspect and you have all the makings of an absolutely wonderful story!

Just when it looks like Eve's life is finally coming together, everything explodes at once....

This was an excellent portrayal of just how strong Eve really is. Nora Roberts (writing as J.D. Robb) does a superb job weaving a tale through which Eve Dallas miraculously exits none the worse for wear!

A futuristic, science-fictiony tale with all the star wars and Harlequin romance you can handle....yet somehow you read this story as if you were living every second.

Positively masterful!

Great book! Love the story because it gets so personal for Eve and we find out more about her past all while getting ready for her wedding to Roarke. This was such a great read that I did a reread of it because I hadn't read it in years and it was just as great the second time. I love this series! Will probably read more of them again.

When Eve Dallas is called into a murder scene, she's not surprised to see a supermodel beaten to death. She is, however, surprised to learn that her best friend, Mavis, is the suspect in the crime. When Eve has to arrest Mavis for the murder, she vows to save her friend and find the killer no matter what. But it's not so easy for Eve to concentrate on the case when she has to plan her own wedding, tend to her best friend, and deal with the sudden memories of her buried past. And if Eve doesn't solve the case in time, she could loose everything she loves; her lover, her friend, and even her life.

The In Death series is climbing upward with the third book. It's a big improvement over the first and second in the series. Eve and Roark were explored further as characters and as a couple. Though the mystery part of the novel was utterly predictable, the good characterization pulled the book together. I knew who the killer was as soon as his name was mentioned, which should tell you that the mystery part of the book was poorly written. But it wasn't as cheesy (romantically) as the first book in the series, and I actually enjoyed this book.

I love all of her books -- have read all 53 of the in Death series and started reading them again. But, Nora Roberts (aka J.D. Robb) had better update what year in take place in because so many of the "electronic" toys, etc., in this series has happened. Remember, she started writing them about 25 years ago, so at this time, it was fantasy -- today it is realistic

In this story, Eve has to juggle wedding preparations with solving a string of murders. There is a very lethal drug out called Immortal, and it's making everyone crazy with greed or, side effects after ingesting it. Even Mavis and her new boyfriend (who is also Eve's wedding dress designer) are involved. This book will have you guessing the entire time. In all of my reviews so far I'm sure I touched on character development, and I'm going to talk about it again. Not only is Eve's past clearer than ever, but we learn more about Officer Peabody and Summerset, Roarke's butler. And of course the relationship between Eve and her husband-to-be continues to grow. These books are fascinating to read if you're in it for the mystery and suspense, or are more in it for the love story. The author is a master.

This time around, Eve Dallas catches a case that has her professional life merging with her personal one.

When her friend Mavis is accused of murdering the former lover of her boyfriend, Dallas finds it difficult to gain enough facts to exonerate her -- especially since all of the evidence is pointing directly towards Mavis. Leonardo, Mavis' new love, has been hired to create Eve's wedding gown, but things turn ugly when Pandora, a high-class, world-renowned model and his former lover, turns up dead in his studio.

As Eve works to clear Mavis, things get worse when more people associated with Pandora start dying, and at the center is a new drug called Immortality.

This is another winner in the "...IN DEATH" series, and you'll do well to pick up a copy -- and read the series from the beginning!

Another fantastic addition to this series. This mystery had me stumped from the beginning. It drove me crazy that I couldn't get the pieces together. Eve had her moments, but this particular installment was great because of the secondary characters. The dynamic between the characters and the different personalities made this mystery/thriller quite fun. I'm finding myself so attached and it excites me because this series has so many more installments to go. I was so engrossed from beginning to end. I blinked and the book was over. These are such quick reads. They are impossible to put down. I can't wait for the next one.

In this segment Eve is investigating the murder of a top fashion model. Mavis, Eve's very best friend becomes the main suspect. Leonardo, whom Mavis is in love with is also a suspect and is designing Eve's wedding dress for her soon to be wedding to Roarke. Eve does everything in her power to find the real killer and get Mavis off the hook. Eve knows her friend couldn't possibly do this, in spite the evidence. After Eve and Roarke have Mavis staying at their house, more murders happen which do seem connected. Eve finds a new drug seems to be connected. The people murdered were either consuming this drug or dealing it. This new drug is fatal but it makes you young and sexy and eaten up by the wealthy and powerful especially in this fashion world. Peabody is back in this book and is becoming Eve's aide in the homicide world. You learn more of Eve and Roark's past. These books just keep getting better. What an excellent series!!!

This is the third of the In Death series, and just keeps getting better. By this book you are really getting comfortable with the characters, and luckily there is a lot of background that comes to light. We understand Eve's and Summersets past much better, and hopefully they will come to terms soon. Roarke and Eve find out a few things about the past, that helps to mold their relationship better, as well as making it alittle rocky.
The murder mystery really had me stumped in this one, and didn't figure it out, until Eve actually found out in the end. Love being suprized. All and all, this book was a suspenceful delight, and hard to put down.

I started reading this series in just the last few weeks. I read a mention of it in another review and was suprised I had missed a series with so many books (like 40 something). I am up to number 12 and am enjoying them so far. I really like the characters and they continue to grow on me with each book. So far the stories have stayed fresh and interesting. The futuristic setting is just different enough to give you something to wonder about (i.e. what where the Urban Wars and will we really be able to travel and live off planet in 40 years?)

My only real problem with this book is the pervasive language (cursing/cussing). I get that this doesnt bother everyone and it doesnt usually bother me so much but there is enough that I notice it - a lot - and it interupts an otherwise enjoyable story.

Liked the first two books in this series better than this third, but it is still a recommended read. My problem with this book was that the ending just kind of dropped off. Would have like a few more pages of happiness, maybe some details on the wedding, (what did Mavis wear???). Despite the sub-par rating of 4 out of 5, I still have trouble putting the books down. Roberts does a good job teasing us with the romance which is probably why after three books about the same couple, I'm still interested in their lives.
Basically, you either like this series or you don't. If you like it, you need to read each of the books in order to get the full appeal. Though this wasn't my favorite of the three I read, it was enjoyable.

One of the things I really like about these books are the future excerpts that Robb as created. You can really see the cars flying overhead, and I think you can even see the blood flowing out of the woman's body and she lies dead in front of Dallas's friend.
A time of realizing how much friends mean to one another and what you would do for such a friend, even if it might cost their career. Also it shows you the side of a promsing career can be damaged by to much power.
A good read!!!

I have read one Nora Roberts novel and I hated it. I read everything and eagerly await the new books by JD ROBB. Eve Dallas is the hard working everybody I would like to be. Her job and life have a personal meaning to her. Not always good or happy either. Meeting the right person throws her life in chaos and she struggles with the pessure of keeping her life together while she opens her heart. I love the slightly futuristic feel to the series. JD ROBB has managed to create a great cop story with great mysteries. It also uses the half century gain to highlight the possible scenarios of some societies easy out policies like gun control and other "hot" issues.

This book was kind of in the middle of the road for the In Death series. I feel like it would be better for a first time reader, though, especially one who does not know how things work out later in the series - I think some of the revelations would "juice it up" a lot. Unfortunately when you've read the whole series they don't help as much.

It was a good story, and I am guessing most people wouldn't guess the ending too far in advance. As with the first two it sets up and cements some of the primary characters in the series, which is good.

On the other hand, some of the scenes were very overdone - for example, the scene where Pandora catches Mavis with Leonardo was just ridiculously overly dramatic. Furthermore, it truly strains reality to think that Dallas would be allowed to investigate a murder where her friend is the prime suspect. Yes this is fiction, but fiction can only take us so far.

Overall a good read, but some of the other books in the series are better!

This is a terrific book where Eve is pulled in so many directions that she doesn't realize what's going on until it smacks her in the face. It's nice to see that fictional characters can make mistakes, too.

Many characters make their first appearances in this book. Peabody takes form as a character and begins to be part of the core. Leonardo, fashion designer, & Trina, stylist, appear. Crack begins his regular appearances. Dick Berenski, Chief tech in the Police lab, shows with his never ending quest for bribe attempts.

Let me put it this way...when my order from the store.com arrived, I tore into the box to get to my J.D. Robb books! I could not wait to hear more of the story on Eve, Roarke and the other zany characters that Robb cooked up for us.
In Immortal in Death, Robb offers us an in depth look at the value of beauty...and how far some will go to attain their looks. When Lietenant Eve Dallas investigates into the murder of a top fashion model, she finds herself walking a very fine line between justice and crime as she prepares to defend one of her closest friends. Eve must go by the book in order to protect and defend Mavis, her zany musician turned best friend in Immortal in Death. Can their friendship stand the heat? Can Eve find the evidence she needs to free Mavis? Or will the ultimate set up become the ultimate betrayal as Eve heads into the high priced world of wealth, power and...immortality.
If you have not read any of the J.D. Robb series, I seriously recommend starting with the first one, Naked in Death. However, Robb gives the reader enough background information in each book, that picking up any one in the series would still grab your attention, keep you on the edge of your seat and racing to the finish line.

This series has some very good points and some really annoying aspects. The plots are generally excellent: well-thought out, complicated enough to be satisfying, but simple enough to be believable. The dialog is good and the secondary characters are entertaining and likeable.

The main character leaves a little to be desired in that a) it gets quite tiresome being told all the time how caring she is. The whole defender of the dead, stalwart and true, faithful to the end, devoted friend of each and every innocent person everywhere, lover of the law, hero thing is forced down the reader's throat too often. As are b) the extremely graphic descriptions of the main character's abuse as a child that the author insists on including in every single book at least once, if not more. In addition, I have issues with how the main relationship in the book is handled in book two in that it seems that Roark, the hero, attempts to force his emotionally scarred lover into loving him. It happens that she does so it all works out, but the point is that he didn't know that at the time. The relationship seems to go on in a similar vein for some time. But I'm willing to believe that most people don't mind this.

Unfortunately the whole future thing gets in the way in frequent, little ways that take bite after tiny bite out of enjoyment of the story. Mostly this is because the future as imagined by the author doesn't make a lot of sense in several ways. For one thing, it's only 50 years or so into the future but there are many off-world colonies on a whole bunch of planets, moons, and space stations, including a place known as Vegas II. It reminds me heavily of those shows in the 60's about how we were all going to be living on the moon and driving flying cars by 1989. Those voice overs start playing in my head. Not that the author is saying it will actually be like that, but where was the difficulty in making it even farther into the future?

Even more annoying are the inconsistencies. Things like how real lemon juice, steak, and butter are all very hard to get and expensive, but Elephants aren't extinct, and people carry around pads of paper and pencils and pens. If people haven't got the space for cows, they sure as hell ain't got the space for elephants or tree farms, especially when we already have electronic writing tablets now, never mind in 50 years. And why should lemons be rare when there are all these off-planet farms and plant breeding facilities? Also, people get dried off after showers etc. in these "drying tubes" that blow hot air all over you, like a giant blow drier. If people with long hair tried this, they'd end up with a giant ball of knots on top of their head. Or at least, bangs that stand straight up. Big problem in marketing. And at one point, Eve, the heroine, avoids using lip stain because she doesn't like being stuck with one color for three months, but then in the next book her friend takes off her lip stain with a cream remover. Little things like this are numerous throughout the series.

Occasionally, there are similes or lines that are jarring, but this is normal with any series. However, I don't think I'll be able to forgive the author this one: "The dead and innocent, Eve thought with a shudder as she drove away. She knew that too many of the dead were the guilty." What the hell does that mean? It makes even less sense in the context of the story where they have, if anything, too many suspects - living suspects.

Lastly, I'd like to mention that I started the series by picking up one of the most recent books in an airport. I liked it enough to start the series at the beginning from the library, but was astonished when Eve and Roarke actually get married between books three and four. I was astonished by this because in the book I had started with, at least 16 books later in the series, Eve is still apparently trying to get over being married. It had seemed so obvious in that later book that Eve had Roarke had just gotten married. How can this woman, who is head over heels in love with her "soul-mate" still be obsessing about being married 16 books later? Telling herself every time she sees her husband that he is, in fact, her husband and reminding herself on a daily basis that she is, in fact, married. The prospect has led me to abandon the series, despite the good qualities. Which leads me say again that the plots really are quite excellent, even if the killer is sometimes easy to guess at.

Only Eve Dallas could find herself investigating a murder while getting ready for her wedding- a murder where her best friend Mavis and Mavis' new boyfriend Leonard (who also happens to be the wedding dress designer) are the prime suspects. Watching Eve find her way through the maze of clues to solve the case while also trying to find her way through the wedding planning process makes for an enjoyable read. A solid addition to the In Death series.

This is my third Eve Dallas "In Death" read, and also the third in the series.

So far this is the best one yet. Each book they get better.

You can tell J.D Robb, aka Nora Roberts is really getting familiar with the characters, and the great writing proves it.

It is really fun to read the books in this series. Its like a television show, you can drop in and visit your friends. Luckily for us the readers, Nora Roberts keeps cranking them out.

As long as she writes them, I will read them.

J.D. Robb's Eve Dallas mystery/romance/scifi novels are wonderful, and IMMORTAL IN DEATH is one of the best. A much hated model is murdered. Eve's best friend, the absolutely ditzy but loyal Mavis, is a suspect since she fell in love with the hot designer, Leonardo, who had also been the vapid, vicious model's boyfriend. Roarke, Eve's dashing, mysterious almost-husband, gets involved. Peabody, the stalwart, hopelessly romantic cop, makes a strong appearance in this novel. All the trademark sex, zingy dialogue, and good mystery elements are in evidence. Eve solves the crime, but nearly loses her life. J.D. Robb's a bloody genius with these books.

The case in this book revolves around a group of people being murdered and having their faces bashed in. This is also where we meet Eve's future partner, Delia Peabody. Peabody's sense of humor is nice levity for the stories. This is a case that will leave you guessing, while also increasing the intimacy between Eve and Roarke. I like the way JD Robb adds characters to the series slowly, so you an focus on learning each new character.

Immortal" wasn't quite the 5 Star the previous 2 books were, but it was dang close. Mrs. Roberts is truly a master storyteller and she rarely lets me down. Immortal (unlike the others) did lack the "must turn the page now, can't do anything else" feeling for me, but it was a great fast paced read, and at the end of the story this fine author (and in the words of my 4 year old son) really throws you for a loopty loop...

I never saw that one coming.

The series is one of the best I've ever read and I read a lot. Not may authors can compare. Hope the series continues for a long time.

Immortal in Death marks the third entry in J.D. Robb's excellent mystery-romance series. This In Death entry brings back sexy and tough Detective Lt. Eve Dallas of the NYPSD and her fiance, the ridiculously wealthy and handsome, Irish billionaire Roarke (he had popped the question to Eve in the final moments of the previous book). This third book in the series continues to build on the great stories already told with the previous two books. With marriage plans now part of Eve and Roarke's daily life things become even more complicated and hectic. Though Eve seems to be the one whose confused about the whole thing since she's still surprised Roarke wants to marry her despite their vast differences. Roarke on the other seems to keep his cool no matter how exasperating Eve's temper and behavior gets.

To balance out the romance and humor of their marriage plans, Eve and Roarke once again become embroiled in a murder which hits very close to home for Eve. The prime suspect for the murder of a prominent supermodel is none other than Eve's own best friend, Mavis Freestone. It takes all of Eve's efforts, and with reluctance on her part, and Roarke's finances to keep Mavis from becoming the scapegoat in a case that soon becomes much bigger than just a typical murder. Immortal does a great job in exploring an aspect of Eve's life that doesn't involve Roarke and her violent childhood past. The friendship between Eve and Mavis gets tested by the case, but its their mutual trust in each other which keeps both of them together through the crisis.

Immortal In Death is another great book in whats turning out to be an excellent series. Again Ms. Robb does a great job of balancing out the many parts of the book which keeps it from just becoming just another mystery or just another romance novel. Police procedural is balanced by the passionate romance between Eve and Roarke which is kept together tightly by the humor and friendship between Even and her supporting players.

It's a JD Robb. She has the formula down cold and does better than anyone else with it. I can recommend this series to everyone, but I would do a search and start with the first one so you can see how the main character, Eve, develops.

BETTER & BETTER, How is that possible? Mavis is more fully developed & gets her own sexy "love interest" Officer Peabody, shows up again & is very involved in this one. Lots of RED HERRINGS in the best tradition, Witty, fast paced dialogue & Believible future tech. Roarke watching Eve deal with things out of her element, then taking care of those same things in his caring, sexy way... YUM. Ms. Robb has captured the "future, mystery, romance" market with this great series.

Started the "in death" series. I've read the 1st five and this one was my favorite so far. Love to read anything that Nora Roberts/JD Robb has written. She has never let me down. If you like futuristic, mystery romance you will like this book a lot.

As Eve contemplates her upcoming wedding, she lines up her tasks: shop for wedding dress, choose flowers, clear Mavis of murder, solve five torture-murder and one suspicious OD cases, find the source of a deadly poison, live through a killer bachelorette party, kick butt and deal with the most frightening challenge of all...survive Trina's torturous beauty treatments.
Oh the horror!

In this book, Lieutenant Eve Dallas investigates the brutal murder of a model. Eve's best friend, Mavis, is a suspect. As if that weren't bad enough, Eve also has to work on her wedding plans and her increasingly clearer memories of what her father did to her as a child.
Although this is not my favorite book in the series, I still enjoy it and have read it several times. I would suggest reading the first two books in the series before reading this one, simply because Eve and Roarke's relationship is developed over time and skipping those books also skips that development. Also, because I know that these books are located in the mystery section of bookstores, I'll also add that the relationships between characters in these books are as important, if not more so, than the mystery elements. I myself enjoyed the mystery in this book, but I know there are some people who feel it's too predictable. It wasn't too predictable for me, but the reason I reread this book is not for the mystery, but for Eve's relationships with her friends and with Roarke. I definitely recommend this book and this series.

After reading so many books by Nora Roberts and enjoying them, I was very disappointed with this one and had to struggle to get through it. Reading this book in 2013 makes it seem like a science fiction book, and not thrilling at all! Written in the 90's, the author's attempt at her idea of the future, just plain makes it fall flat! I see many enjoy the series, but not me. Can not recommend it!!

This was a good action packed, funny and full of excitement story that was just the best. The characters were so real life and the lessons in the story unfold one step at a time. The series you don't want to miss reading each new story. Enjoy!

I thought the character development in this novel was wonderful, making Eve and company jump of the page moreso than ever before. It was the murder investigation side that lacked in this entry. Bringing Mavis in as a potential killer was just too silly, followed by the nearly interchangeable actor/producer characters, topped off by two catty feuding models.

This was still a good fluff read, just not up with the previous two entries in the series.

Eve Dallas is the perfect police officer. She's tough, thoughtful, honest, and seemingly sensitive. I like all the imagined future tools. Hope they come to pass. So much of previous science fiction is not accomplished facts. I remember Dick Tracy's wrist phone. Too bad he didn't have an iPhone. I would really like to have the car that can go vertical in stalled traffic.

Born in Death This series is great. The Author has created Charaters that keep you interested and are interesting. The stories move along and because the Year of the crimes, you get a view of what the future could hold. Eve Dallas is a strong woman, who shows that you can overcome your past.

I want to like these books more than I do. I liked the 2nd book a fair amount, but this one was just okay. I don't connect to any of the characters which is probably part of my problem with the series.

The murder mystery is a winner, but I really enjoyed the relationship development. We get to see the bind grow between Eve and Mira, Eve and Feeney, Eve and Trina, Eve and Mavis, but most important Eve and Peabody. The deepening relationship between Eve and Roark is critical to the mystery and to future books...I'm rereading the series in order. This is my type of mystery!

This is one of the beginning books in her extensive "death" line. It explains how Peabody and a few other characters come to be in her group. Reader gets a clear idea of the "future" culture the books are written under.

Don't read any more reviews, type in jd robb and order the series. All the books are great, but to really get the feel of the characters of Dallas and Rourke, start at the beginning and spend the summer with them! You won't be sorry! For mystery fans there is action and plenty of it, not to mention puzzles to solve and intrigue to enjoy. For those of you who prefer romances...these books are for YOU, too! You will NOT be disappointed! So, quit reading this and order yourself some fun!

I liked this one, but I was really not happy with the way the wedding played out at the end. It just seemed kind of anticlimactic. The overall premise of the story just wasn't as appealing to me as a lot of her other books. I did like it, but I didn't love it.

Eve Dallas is back. J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts) has a winning formula for a mystery series will keep readers coming back as a new one hits the stands. Eve is tough and capable with enough baggage in her past to "write a book." In Immortal in Death Eve's best friend is accused of murder. Reading the Eve Dallas stories is more fun than watching NYPD.

I won't add my description as there are others who have done it better than me. I will just say it amazes me how this series just gets better and better. If you have not read the previous books I would suggest starting there but do start as these books are well woth your time.

I decided to read Immortal in Death after reading other readers' raving reviews of this book. This is a first book by J.D. Robb that I ever read and I was bored to death. It's a blend of mystery with science fiction and for me it does not work in either genre. I find Robb's caracters cartoonish, her storytelling does not grab you, her science fiction does not have an ounce of science or at least of space opera attributes. Her heroine Eve might be liked by ultra feminists, but I prefer Dr. Kay Scarpetta of Patricia Cornwell's as my favorite sleuth and a liberated woman. To each his/her own, though. Ed Gorin.

Third in the series, this book gives more character developement and lets you watch the characters and their relationships grow - and grow they do! Times of crisis (and all murder mysteries are set in them) tend to bring more color to characters, and Robb (Roberts) has some of the most colorful yet realistic characters I've ever read. You find yourself truly concerned about the characters, and wanting the best for them. I can't wait to read more.
