A real surprise, I certainly did not expect this book to be this good. After reading this I wondered how I have missed running across any of his books before. I will be definitely reading every one I can lay my hands on. For anyone looking for a really exciting and fast moving read.

A good read, suspense in all the right places. The author spins a great tale with subtle twists, some foreseen, others pleasantly surprising. I am anxiously waiting the second installment of Jack Winchester.

There were so many positive reviews given this author and the Jack Winchester series I thought I'd give Book 1 a chance. It didn't take long. Finished the first book in less than 24 hours. Liked the style and premise so well I went back to the store and downloaded every book in the Jack Winchester series. Couldn't wait to finish Book 1 so I could begin Book 2!

Mr. Mills writes well, develops solid characters, and has established a promising lead-Jack Winchester. Jack has a lot of baggage and tries mightily to start a new life. Yet, his past catches up with him in a bucolic town in New England. Let your reading begin.

Fast paced, realistic situations and people make reading this mystery thriller enjoyable. Jon Mills, author, wrote very satisfying ending chapters instead of just dropping the characters (and readers) after the action is over. I highly recommend "The Debt Collector."

Please, Mr Mills--learn what a dangling participle is, and stop using them on page after page. They distract me from your exciting story and strong characters. You also had other grammar problems, as others have mentioned; but this one really drove me up the wall.

If you like Jack Reacher, you will like Jack Winchester. Though written in the same vein, JW has a compelling back story. Character development is pretty darned good. So much so that I have read through 7 JW books! Highly recommend this series!

This is a pretty well-written crime/action novel with the usual plot elements. It's an easy read and a good book to enjoy by the pool. It's not meaty, but that doesn't seem to be its intent. Recommended.

Former Mafia hitman finds redemption in a widow's life but, as everyone knows, the only way out of the Mafia is by wearing concrete bocks or in a casket. Non-stop action and fully developed characters in this fast paced read.

Jack Winchester grew up as a collector for the mafia, specializing as a hit man. He was arrested, convicted and did his time, but now he's trying to leave his old life behind. The mob won't let him.

The main character grew up in violent circumstances and made choices that perpetuated violence and though he chose never to hurt women or children directly, he hurt them by killing people they depended on. After time reflecting in jail he wants to change his life, but his buddies in the mob want him to do one more job.

The writer handles all the elements of this book and characters in a different kind of manner. I especially enjoyed reading this author and will check out his other books. The mobster angle fits the story line and works well. I appreciate the free book and it gave me a chance to read an author I hadn't known before.

Good story even though a bit predictable. Mills needs a better editor. "Donators"? Not sure that is even a word. Overall, the book moved at a good pace, the characters were well developed and believable. I recommend it highly.

What Jon Mills does well outweighs the flaws. He's a great story teller & with really good ear for dialogue. He doesn't need to rely excessively on physical action to keep the tension high & his pacing is good.

The flaws: some awkward constructions, minor continuity issues (like getting an address for a place he's already been to), dropped words & the like. Occasional tightening up of language that would make for a better read. Once in awhile it seems like he tires of a scene & rushes a bit. The action scenes are engaging, altho sometimes the details are difficult to envision.

My only real reservation is how Dana comes across (in the beginning of the 2nd book at least) in handling her son's involvement with pushing drugs - especially not taking full advantage of Jack's help. Given her history, she came across to me as unrealistically naive to think she could handle it.

Suspense, intrigue, thriller, this book has it all. The writer did a good job unraveling the story.
Jacks character was believable. It gave you insight into a hit mans life . I can't wait to read another book from this writer

The story kept moving - no lag, which was good. There were some things that weren't quite believable, but hey, its fiction. Good story. This is a series but each book is written as a stand alone, which is nice. No cliff hangers.

I was interested the whole way through this book. When I read a book, I like to be able to see the characters, situations they find themselves in, and the backgrounds, etc. This author did a great job of allowing me to do just that.

Interesting take on an inside look at the life of a made man. Survival, revenge, redemption, and experiencing life's punches all come together in the intriguing cast of this 1st Jack Winchester novel. I look forward to seeing this collection evolve. Mr. Mills has the making of really fine series with this intriguing new character.

This was a really enjoyable book. Full of action. I like that background information was shared about the main character. It gave you insight into why his life turned out the way it did. I am looking forward to reading the other Jack Winchester books!

Story, and characters were intriguing. Outcome was a bit predictable but Mills kept it succinct which gave it more life than if he'd spent pages on dialogue.
Some typos, a few incorrect word choices and grammatical errors, but if overlooked, will not diminish the read.

Fast-moving and compelling. Stand-alone that is easy to follow and difficult to put down. Believable characters and actions. Thought-provoking dialogue.

I may re-read this story and look forward to more works by this author.
