We bought the Kindle version of this incredible book of men who have became both heroes and role models through the way they lived portions of their lives. Since it was on Kindle, we listened to this gem on a short family vacation. It gave us great conversation topics, and no one said, "Are we there yet?"

We need real heroes, men of characters, and courage we can learn from and emulate. These men are not perfect, but despite their failings they do what is right, regardless of what the culture says or the price that must be paid. Every man, young or old man should read this and share it with every woman, young or old they know.

I chose this book because I had already read Eric Metaxas' book on Bonhoeffer, and was very pleased with the depth and perception with which he wrote that book. I also agree with Metaxas' spiritual standpoint, and knew that he would bring out the spiritual and moral aspects of these seven men's lives that made them great. The reading of the book fully satisfied all my expectations, and I purchased the book for Father's Day gifts for my three sons, and additional gifts for two more Grandsons.

Metaxas does a great job as a historian unpacking the lives of these 7 men. While his other work expounds more on particular characters of history (such as Bonhoeffer), this book is a little more abbreviated. This books is great for discussion/book clubs.

This presentation of seven Godly men create a connection with every man that even barely acknowledges that there is a God. It will impact your heart and change your mind about what the real priorities in life truly are. Every man is created and called for a purpose. It's never too late in life to give in to God and allow Him to lead you to fulfilling yours.

7 great men from a Christian perspective. This was a short version of each man's life -- kind of like reading the cliff notes in school. If you really like what you read then you know to pursue a longer biography on that particular person. I don't think you can go wrong with buying this book.

I often learn best from models - learning about the lives of outstanding people. It's like the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words. Eric does an admirable job of painting word pictures of men as varied as George Washington and William Wilburforce. It's well worth reading.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the biographies written by Eric Metaxas of William Wilberforce and Diedrich Bonhoffer. 7 Men is another great read, enforcing Eric's belief that greatness comes from a higher power. It's a book I will read again, and use as reference material.

Metaxas does a good job of highlighting the lives of these 7 men from different time periods. For me, it was a good refresher of some of Metaxas' biographies which I had previously read. For others, it may spur you to read more about these men.

Great Biographies by Eric Metaxas, a Christian author who compiled biographies of interactions that these Seven Men have in Common and that they all in some way got what it means to be a Christian Man! Check it out if you never heard of William Wilberforce its alright I didn't either until I read this book! I gave this book four stars only because I believe that Bonhoeffer should have been the last chapter of these seven men to be last because he is so influential and has a powerful message! I still recommend checking this book out you wouldn't believe how God played roles in each of the men's lives.

I purchased this book after hearing Eric Metaxas talk about it (& 7 Women) on Focus on the Family radio program about a month ago. I started reading the introduction and thought, "man, this is a long introduction." I started thinking, "OK, I don't know if I can ever meet Eric's (or God's) real man standards. So when I got to the part "Why I chose these 7 Men" I skipped the rest of the Intro and jumped right into the biographies. They were like fireworks!

Each man had gifts (as we do) and gave up (sacrificed) something huge (often multiple huge things) and left the rest in God's hands. As Jesus said (something like), "he who loses his life for my sake and the kindom of God shall find it", it was amazing and encouraging to see that demonstrated in these 7 men. I felt emensly challenged, strengthend and encouraged by this book. May God give us the courage, wisdom and strength to emulate these men, be at our post, do God's will and leave the rest up to HIM. I loved Chuck Colson's motto that "might have been barrowed from Winston Churchil:" "Never give in - never, never, never - in nothing great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense."

I also loved the bite size biographies for guys like me who don't have the desire or time to read a big exhuastive book. I plan on reading & Women in the future and hope Metaxas writes more of these bite size biographies. By the way, I did finally go back and finish the introduction.

I recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about contemporary citizens that lived great Christian lives. Each one suffered in some way and ultimately fixed their eyes on Jesus and made a difference in their world.

Metaxas does it again! Great little bios of great men written in very readable, exciting, and interesting ways, so characteristic of the Socrates in the City guy. Washington, Wilberforce, Robinson--what great stories. Don't miss them.

This book was written chronologically as each man was spotlighted. It was very inspiring and I would think that parents would do well to encourage and urge their sons to read. In this age of pop culture with its self-centered icons, this offers something to strive for that builds others up while denying one's own selfish ambitions. Eric Metaxas is the kind of writer that as soon as a new book of his comes out, you know that it will be good.

An outstanding book. What were the characteristics underlying the spiritual exceptionalism of these men and what motivated them?
All these questions are answered in a very graphic way in this book.
