Returning to Apalach is like meeting up with an old friend, or friends. Not always welcoming, but always interesting. Dead Wake answers a few questions, but opens the door to a few more. I look forward to my next trip back to Apalach.

The author must have had an Americauna chicken. She described their language and behavior perfectly. The characters were real and interesting, people I could be friends with. I look forward to other books in the series.

Having vacationed in this area, I was anxious to read this book. I felt it had good character development, and the characters were interesting and likeable. The plot was interesting and believable, but I was disappointed at how abruptly the story ended. I felt a little at loose ends when it was finished.

I love mysteries with accurate Florida locations and real understanding of how life was in simpler times. The author has done her work in understanding the times and places of her stories. Wonderful reads for any mystery lover with surprise twists. Cant wait for more!

I have read the first five Forgotten Coast books and love McKenna’s writing so much I have downloaded books six, seven and eight. I have also pre-ordered book nine. I love her humor and the natural feel of her descriptions of ordinary things.

A good story, the continuatiion of Maggie's saga, as a little more of the "secret" gets revealed with each episode in this series. Nice tension with the two lead law officers, and a nice twist at the end to solve the case.

Descriptions are so casually thorough I can feel the salt breeze when immersed in Apalachicola. Many authors, while trying to put you "there" often seem to be trying for word count, wearing out the reader without really "immersing" them. I now feel like a native and will actually visit Apalachicola. Hope the real thing is as good as the book !!

Good story with a real surprise ending thatI never saw it coming.. Always nice to have a twist in a story that hits you in the face when you were not looking. No bad words nor a lot of sex for a change, which is hard to find these days.

I liked the characters and the Forgotten Coast environment. The book was easy to read and flowed
well.
I was a little confused by the ending. I wish it had been more clear. I am not really clear about who did what to whom.

Outstanding character interplay with uniquely witty dialog. This story is a nice treatment of a cold case in Apalachicola. I would enjoy an entire book of Boudreaux and Ms. Evangeline starting their day. I also appreciated Dwight demonstrating the proper use of the adjective kindly.
