I have read several drawing books and I really liked this one!! I learned a lot from reading it and know I will be re-reading it many times in the future. It has several exercises to practice in tje book.

Instructions in drawing take many forms. This book provides a good guide to someone who has tried, succeeded, but, too slowly. I needed a bit more of an idea of how to get something on paper in a reasonable time. Then how to build on it. Plus it provides good techniques for the different stages of drawing.

This is one of the better books for the beginner. The exercises are well paced and explained. Good for group instruction or for the individual. I've used it in the past and find myself returning to it often.

As pretty much a beginner to drawing I have found this book to be a valuable starting point. I am only about 12% of the way through it and already I am looking at everyday things in a whole new light; focusing on their individual lines and how I would draw them instead of the object as a whole. Great book.

The Laws Guide to Drawing Birds by John Muir Laws

David Allen Sibley – one of the greatest-ever bird artists wrote in the forward to this book that he wished this book had been available when he was developing his skill. He also makes the accurate observation that this book teaches you not only how to draw birds, but how to look at and study them. I agree.
As an amateur scribbler I have the usual three acres of “How to draw ___” books. But this one is head and shoulders above them all. I promise you won’t work through it in a day, or a month, or even several months. And what it teaches you about drawing birds will carry over into everything you draw. One last but important thing – it will teach you the right way to think about your drawing.
It’s great !!

Again - bought for my niece (12 years old) who has a passion for drawing but no one to teach her. She's naturally gifted in this area, but this book has taught her A LOT about how to look at and size up a subject, draw basic figures, and probably loads more she didn't tell me about! Not really geared towards kids (Why did you get me a boring adult book? Go read a few pages and then talk to me kid!) After actually cracking it open, she does love it! I would say 10 years old would be the YOUNGEST a kid (or any kid I know) would be able to pay attention to this book. Mostly for adults of any skill level. I took a peek before gifting it to her and it kind of made me want to sit down and draw!

I'm taking a drawing class & requested that the book be delivered quickly, and it was! It took only 2 days!! It was in very good shape. It was great to have the book before everyone else. My sister will be ordering as well. Thanks!

This beginners book expects a lot out of a complete novice. It is very detailed oriented, which is a good thing. It is requiring much more concentration than I expected. I recommend it for those who are serious about learning to draw.
