I devoured this book. I needed to keep reading. There was no choice, it had to be done. I was engrossed in this story, eager to discover how it would end.

The charcters in this story shine. Adele develops throughout the story, from a naive sweet and sassy girl to a woman who SORT of has her s#*t together (but not totally). She sticks up for herself and her feelings, bringing humor and light to the lives of her family.

Pete. I loved him, yet my god I wanted to smack him in the face NUMEROUS times! He frustrated me constantly, making his character a more realistic romantic lead. I would have enjoyed reading from his POV, however I feel that the drama and angst was built far more successfully having the story told from Adele's perspective.

At first I was wondering how I would feel about the age difference between the leads. The clever way the author showed the growth of Adele through flashbacks and present day comparisons, made me realize that age is just a number. Maturity is both physical and emotional, the latter being the important one for relationship sucess. The age of the characters didn't worry me at all, and the fact that I envisioned Henry Cavill as Pete was also a help.

I loved the attention to detail with the setting. Myself, coming from the area where the story is set, enjoyed the references to restaurants, beaches and places familiar to me. These details show the authors commitment to making this work of fiction as realistic as she can.

Another well written, humorous and emotional story by Kylie Scott. It is a must read for everyone!

“Sometimes loving someone isn’t enough”

Isn’t that the biggest truth? Adele learned this the hard way many years ago and she escaped with her broken pride as far away as she could.

Now the time has come for her to face him. She thought that she had moved on, but that mistakes all those years ago changed the way in which she relates to guys in her life. She hasn’t had a real connection in years, after being burned she chose to not get attached to anyone.

Now re is realizing how lonely she really is, not letting people get too close can avoid heartache but it also impedes you from ever finding true happiness.

Pete was a mystery from the beginning, there was for sure something going on in his head that made him carry this anger towards her since her mistake. Years had passed but he was still pissed, and Adele couldn’t understand why, she was young and made a mistake, but she was older now, it was time he moved on.

Getting close again proved to be even a bigger hazard, they were still perfect for each other, and now that they were both old enough, well she was, there was nothing stopping them.

Or at least that’s what she thought, but Pete was holding back, he was letting his fears destroy everything again, and this time she was not sure she could forgive him.

Love knows no age or time, they connected all those years ago and now the connection was even stronger than before. But they were the only ones who could decide to take the next step.

Can a puppy love be the real thing? And will love triumph over age difference and family matters?

Oh, boy this book is yummy :0 Young Adele lusting after her father’s business partner. Can you see how this can get messy? After a fail attempt at seducing Pete which left Pete with a broken nose thanks to her father, Adele fled town. Seven years later, Adele is force to come back to attend her father wedding. She is all grown up, gorgeous and irresistible. Adele is hoping to stay clear of Pete and her past embarrassment, see the wedding through and jet back home ASAP. No such luck though. Apparently, this time around her feelings were not one way. Will Pete able to resist his feelings for Adele? It’s going to be extremely difficult ignore each other since Adele will be shacking at Pete’s home for the duration of her stay.

I adore both main characters. Pete is broody, difficult and at time not so nice, but I think maybe he is just a bit confuses and trying to fight his attraction toward Adele. Adele is fun, sassy, quirky, forward and honest. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is not afraid of letting her emotion known. I enjoy the sexy, slow burn, angsty romance, and the feisty banters between these two. The chemistry is definitely sizzling adding the forbidden aspect make this love story deliciously hot. I also like the special bond and easy friendship between young Adele and Pete. They definitely have some ups and downs given the big gap in age and a surprise twist which make the story exhilarating. This story includes past and present but I wish we get Pete’s pov on what happened and what his thoughts are. Over all, this forbidden romance is unputdownable, exciting plot and well written.

Adele drives several miles to return to her homeland for her father's wedding.
That should be no problem if she did not have to stay for a few days at Pete Gallagher's house, and he was the guy Adele always had a crush on. And even more so, when, at the age of 18, she drank a little too much and decided it was time to seduce Pete.

That was seven years ago.
Now, grown-up, and not very satisfied with the work she had in Sydney, Adele has the opportunity to return when her father offers her to work at his construction company.
But she learns that Pete is not a mere employee now, but rather a partner of her father.

While Adele and Shanti, her father's new wife, become acquainted and friends, Adele and Pete have the chance to put all the misunderstanding behind and to wage a new friendship.
Pete was 15 years older than her.
For a long time in the past they were genuinely friends.
There was an attraction they both insisted to ignore.

But when a certain situation happens, and they have to deal with it like the adults they are, would there be any possibility of love growing through so many hardships, fears... and hopes?

Books and their stories always unravel a series of feelings that we stubbornly hide. But solitary reading gives us the opportunity to laugh, to cry, to cheer with each victory or defeat of the main characters as if they were ourselves.
This book is light, beautiful and brings a smile to your lips at the end of the reading.
I loved every moment lived alongside Adele and Pete.

Kylie Scott is one of my favorite authors and this book is definitely one of my favorites by her!!! This book was such a delightful and emotional read. These characters made me heart soar and plummet throughout the book.

Pete and Adele were just absolutely perfect for each other and Adele knew it but it took Pete a long while to get with the program. Pete didn’t have the best example of love and honestly he was fine with the whole casual dating and not really settling down. When he meets Adele, she is like a breath of fresh air and only 16 so they become the best of friends and that works....for a while.

Adele was quirky and smart and beautiful. Pete was a hard worker, clueless about certain things and protective. They have a deep rooted friendship that I think people strive or yearn for in their life and then add into the mix the amazing chemistry they have and they are just dynamite together!!!

I loved Shanti who was her dads mew wife. She was on Adele’s side and there for her when she needed someone. I loved watching Adele put Pete in his place and call out his bull$hit. She was never scared to speak her mind and I absolutely loved that about her character. I loved Pete but yes, I wanted to smack him upside the head sometimes, but I still loved him. He really proved himself and Adele made him work for it which I thought was good, especially after everything that went down.

This book is definitely one of my top reads for 2018 and I cannot wait for what Kylie Scott comes out with next!!!

Adele has crushed on Pete for years, but envisioning any kind of relationship with him is forbidden, because Pete is older, and her fathers best friend. With Adele staying with Pete while on Holiday, the tension, awkwardness and attraction that follows their friendship may get to be too much for both Pete and Adele. Even through it may see wrong for them to ever explore the spark between them, Adele and Pete just can't seem to ignore it any longer.

Adele and Pete's story was filled with humor and drama. I really liked Adele, she was spunky and sarcastic, she hid her vulnerability behind the sarcasm at times. Pete was a nice character to read, dominating, older, gruff. Adele and Pete's story is complicated, age, the past and Adele's father all stand in the way, and could make things even more complicated for them.

I had a hard time connecting to the story at times, I felt Adele and Pete were very distant from each other despite them expressing their feelings, and wanting to be together. It changed each chapter, one chapter they wanted to be together, give it a try, the next it felt they couldn't care less if they they saw each other again. I really liked the two characters individually, but together I wasn't a fan. The story line was cute, the special bond, there was laughs and it got pretty sexy.

I've only read one other book by Kylie Scott, and even though at times the book frustrated me, it didn't turn me off from reading future books by Kylie Scott, and I would like to give her other work a read.

There was a wise old saying, “First love never dies”.. I wish it were true on my part, but this wasn’t the case for me. Luckily for Adele though, her love transcended time and even if she was so much younger than the man she was pining for, her love prevailed through the test of time.

Adele was only sixteen when she met Pete, her father’s business partner and fifteen years older than her. The day Pete asked her to go with him to the beach, she’d swooned and she’d been crushing on him ever since. But when she reached eighteen and thought this was the right time to let her feelings known, things got complicated, resulting to Pete being rushed to the hospital because of a broken nose.

I can’t emphasize enough how much I love this book. It’s like I am reading my mother’s story.. (yes, my parents had that May-December love affair). Adele and Pete’s age gap didn’t bother me at all and I love how they had developed a friendship before all hell broke lose. The next thing I knew, they were like cats and dogs who couldn’t stand each other until something had brought them back together.

It Seemed Like A Good Idea at That Time is a beautiful, invigorating, slow-burning, feel-good romance by Kylie Scott. I’ve previously read Scott’s Stage Stage Dive series and got hooked into it, so when I heard about this latest book, I knew I had to read it. And it’s really good, Kylie Scott never disappoints! She kept me interested from beginning to end and it was just what I needed to bring sunshine to my rainy days!

Ironically, I ended up reading It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time right after I finished Respect by Jay Crownover. Both books featured May- December romances although the age difference in It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time was larger. Both books also had the characters reuniting after a time apart and that time apart was led up to by an attempted romantic overture by the heroine which needed badly.  Pete and Adele were apart for seven years before being reunited at the beginning of this book. She was his boss's daughter who would spend the summers hanging around with Pete. However, after the aforementioned overture, their friendship ended and it wasn't until Adele's father's wedding that they meet again. Adele ends up staying with Pete during the wedding and their proximity leads to a physical relationship forming between them. Usually, I'm not the biggest fan of reuniting stories with flashbacks but It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time does an excellent job of not having the past overwhelm the present too much. Adele is on a trajectory of change in her life and her reunion with Pete comes at a good time. Despite that, they do have struggles to overcome. In addition to simply enjoying both Pete and Adele, I liked that this book took place in Australia. I will admit to look up some of the wildlife causally mentioned in this book and even threatened to show my sister a picture of the huntsman spider I looked up. Overall, I was a fan of this Kylie Scott standalone and highly recommend it.

Sometimes I want something a little different - still romance, but has a different feel, or an author I love trying something new - and that's why I think I liked this so much. There's the usual Kylie Scott humor, which I greatly appreciate.. but I could see her moving outside of her normal tropes. And for me, this worked. I can see how some people aren't the biggest fans - because there is a definite age difference, and they met when she was 16. But I think Kylie Scott did it right.

As I said, I really liked this. I didn't want to stop reading. All I could think about while I was at work was getting back to this book, and finding out what would happened. I liked Adele's attitude, especially when she decided she wasn't taking any of Pete's crap anymore. And Pete certainly had his fine moments as well... but he also frustrated me. I can see why he'd need a younger woman, considering how immature he could be, emotionally.

This doesn't beat out Trust and Lead when it comes to my top favorites... but it's great all the same.

Cover Lovin': Oh my... yes, well done!

Recommendation: Not for everyone due to the age gap, but definitely worth a read if you like to change things up now and again.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!!! An emotional, yet fun, read. Honestly, seeing Adele grow into herself and realize what she was and wasn't willing to deal with makes this worth reading. But I think the romance was great as well.

Personally, it’s always a good idea when it comes to reading a Kylie Scott book. And in her latest release, It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time, I once again fell in love with her writing, characters and raw emotions. Forbidden romance with an age gap has always been my favorite. There is just something so appealing and intoxicating about it and so when Kylie Scott introduces readers to Adele and Pete, I knew this is one read that I couldn’t put down.

Adele was 16 years old when she first met Pete, who happened to be working for her father. When she was 18 years old, she mistakenly thought Pete felt the same way as she did and so Adele made a move on Pete only to be turned down. So fast forward to seven years later, Adele is going back home to attend her father’s wedding. She hopes to steer clear of Pete and avoid any awkwardness but of course fate would have it that she is staying at Pete’s house for the wedding. So naturally, Pete and Adele are forced to interact with one another. But what happens this time, when Pete can’t help his attraction and feelings for Adele? Will this second time around be any different or a major disaster?

A sexy, fun, slow burn romance that was a riot of entertainment. It definitely was your feel good book that left you smiling. It is one of those reads that you inhale and so if you are looking for a read that had charming characters, banter, and full of entertainment then this is the book for you.

Good Lord!!! When Kylie Scott decides to write forbidden she doesn't pull her punches. I absolutely loved It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time!!! This novel was so fantastic and sexy with an emotional punch that hit me right in the feels! It was honest, refreshing, real and so addicting. I could not put this down!!

In all honesty, this may be my favorite Kylie Scott novel to date! It was funny, sexy and just the perfect story of two people on a journey where their past and present collide in spectacular fashion. And ohhh the fireworks we saw!!!! Pete and Adele had fiery chemistry and their emotional connection was just as HOT. She was strong and sassy and the perfect match to his stoic and broody nature. I loved how the author effectively used flashbacks to showcase their growing friendship and connection leading up to the incident that broke them. It was beautifully written and such a perfect balance between then and now.

To label this novel just a taboo romance would not do its brilliance and outstanding emotional depth any justice. This was a heartfelt love story that goes beyond their age gap and connection with her father. It was without a doubt an intense love story with all the swoony moments that left me gasping for more, balanced with all the smart and witty banter we've come to expect from a Kylie Scott novel. I never wanted it to end! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

3.5 Stars from Renee!

This story contains love, laughs, heartbreak, secrets, and pain.

This is Adele and Pete‘s story. Pete is Adele’s father’s business partner. He is also older. When something happens, her father sends her away. Now seven years alter she is coming back for her father’s wedding. She knows she has to face Pete. The feelings are still there in seven years later. Can she figure out what to do with those feelings now that she is older, and the age gap is not an issue? Will Pete ever feel the same about her?

I had some trouble connecting to either of these characters. They really didn’t have any chemistry and I was not even sure be the end if they should even be together. They came off as more friends if that makes sense.

You could feel the longing and heat coming off the pages! This was the perfect execution of not only a friends to lovers romance but also the older man/younger woman scenario.
The brief glimpses into the past showed the growth of their the friendship. The glimpses also show how the 'incident' actually works to form the people they become during their 7 year split.
I loved the supporting characters in this story as well! Adele's dad and his fiancee at times stole the show - in the best way possible!
And finally the HEA in this story is epic! I LOVE a man who goes after what her wants!!

"If you keep staring at my mouth like that this is going to be a very short date..."... "Right. Sorry."

5 stars all the way!!

I couldn't wait for another Kylie Scott novel, and It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time was a FORBIDDEN romance. Cue heart palpitations!!! I loved the idea of younger woman/older man AND that man was her dad's best friend. ???

I completely L O V E slow burn romances, but I ALMOST called it quits about halfway through. I didn't even feel ANY chemistry between Peter and Adele until they FINALLY did something and it was HOT.

Peter oftentimes drove me CRAZY. I thought he was a jerk for the longest time. Adele felt too immature for her age at times. My FAVORITE character though was Shanti. She was an overall great character!!!

Already can't wait until the next Kylie Scott book!!!

it was amazing

I received a copy from the author for review purposes.

For me the perfect 5 star read hits me in all of the feels. It gets me so wrapped up in the characters that I have to react out loud to their antics. This story did all of that. I was wrapped up in Adele and Pete their story had me laughing, swooning, and crying at times. Adele is on the top of my list of favorites of Kylie's characters. She has me laughing so hard at times. Pete frustrated me. I just wanted to shake him. He received several out loud lectures from me throughout the story. You will want to grab this book and get wrapped up in the story.

I just love anything and everything Kylie Scott writes, she just has a way with her words that fully captures the reader and takes them into her world.

Kylie Scott has brought us another amazing story, one that will have you devouring each page till the very end. I adored the characters, even when one in particular *coughs* Pete *coughs* is being a complete douchebag.
Thought the age difference between Pete and Adele would bother me but I enjoyed my little taste of the forbidden fruit. Love is Love, right?

A fun, angsty, hot, emotional story I thoroughly enjoyed!

I was completely clueless going into this one, I hadn’t even read the blurb and I’m so glad I went into it blind. I was completely caught up in this story. I couldn’t put it down.
Scott combines her propensity for developing deep characters with a fresh, new and captivating story. This was a slow burn, full of angst and excitement. I was so drawn into Adele and Pete’s story. Their history, their present, all of it. A little taboo, a lot sexy, and the perfect amount of drama, Scott proves again why she’s one of my must read authors.

Adele is finally going home after 7 years for her father's wedding. Last time she was home she had mistaken the crush she had on her father best friend and business partner Pete for love. She was caught in an awkward position with Pete by her father. But she's done a lot of growing up and Pete notices. And all those feelings come flying back but can they make it work for real this time I laughed and swooned yelled and cried but enjoyed it all!

Pete is often times shocked by his woman, "he wiped a hand over his wet face. “Did you actually just tell me to go eff myself?” Pete is like a caveman, he likes to carry his woman everywhere, “um. I need water.” Easy as pie, he lifted me up, heading toward the kitchen. “Or I could walk.” I liked this book, I loved Pete, he didn't know what to do with Adele half the time, she was a firecracker.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the concept of this book. Older man, younger girl. They’ve known each other for decades and form a tight bond before things get awkward.

Fast forward 7 years and they are back in each other’s lives and feels are reawakened that can’t be ignored.

This book was a good mix of funny, sweet, angsty and steamy. I liked the intimate moments between the two characters but I also loved the sad moments too. I found myself tearing up a bit each time her heart was shattered.

Don’t want to give too much away since there is a twist I didn’t see coming.

This book should definitely be on your must read list.

Kylie Scott takes second chance and enemies to lovers and combines them into the BEST THING EVER with It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time! I swear I could not put this down once I picked it up. If it wasn’t the angst bringing on a back and forth that had sexual tension so thick you could cut it with a knife it was the explosive chemistry that they put off heat the requires a fan. Add in some serious feels to that too making for an unputdownable read.
Pete and Adele have some serious chemistry. I was not exaggerating when I said it was explosive. With a complicated past and an age difference between them there were a more than few hurdles in their way that they battle through. And boy do they battle. Both stubborn, both still helplessly drawn to each other, and both trying to keep themselves in denial. The tension between them is something I’m normally not a fan of, but with Kylie Scott’s incredible writing bringing these characters to life I found myself craving it. These two had me glued to the pages dying to know what was going to happen next as I fell in love with them.

A fun, slow-burning and sexy romance that is sizzling with chemistry and a slightly forbidden edge. She’s 26, and he is her father’s 40 year old best friend…and she’s loved him her whole life. This book was lots of fun with a fantastically feisty heroine, delicious angst and a nice amount of heart and I loved it!

Adele and Pete haven’t seen each other for seven years after then-18-year-old Adele’s unrequited love led to an attempt at seduction that went horribly wrong, and she fled town. But now she’s back for her father’s wedding, and staying at Pete’s place while she is there. And it’s clear that he’s not happy with either of those arrangements.

Pete is broody, grouchy and initially completely standoffish with Adele. You can tell there is ‘something’ there between them, but he has no intention of talking about it, let alone acting on it, and he comes off as being a bit of a dick. Which sets the stage for Adele and all of her awesomeness, because OMG I love this girl! She is smart and feisty, funny, sarcastic and no-nonsense, and she holds nothing back. She’s understandably vulnerable but she puts herself out there and I love her openness. And then there’s her attitude…which confounds Pete and leads to fantastic fireworks

But underneath all of the animosity, it’s clear that there is so much more going on. Adele still has feelings for the first man she ever loved, and it seems like it’s reciprocated, but Pete is all kinds of confused about his feelings and not quite sure what to do with them. It sets up a wonderful dynamic as the two of them banter and bicker and try to sort out what the hell is going on with them, all while the sexual tension simmers away, creating a tingling sense of anticipation as we sit back and wait for the inevitable.

The story of Adele and Pete’s past relationship is intermingled throughout the events in the present, which I really appreciated because it showed the undeniable connection that formed between them and the close relationship that they shared. I loved this because, not only was it gorgeous to see, but with all of Pete’s broodiness, it’s initially difficult to see it in the present. But as they finally take a chance on exploring all of that chemistry, it becomes more and more clear, and I loved seeing the changes in them.

It’s a twisty road with lots of ups and downs and more than a few surprises, and I was glued to my kindle as it all played out. I loved Adele and Pete’s story, I loved the side characters who contributed to richly to it, and I loved the Australian setting which brought the story so vividly to life.

Boy Oh Boy!!! Does Kylie Scott know how to write a forbidden romance!! Talk about ANGST!!! This book had my heart going all over the place.

I absolutely LOVED It Seemed Like A Good Idea at the Time!!! This book was different from her other books, but still so much like what we have come to expect from her stories. I swept up in the storyline of this story and I loved the heroine of the story. It did take me a little while to warm up to the Hero of the story, but in the end he stole my heart.

It Seemed Like A Good Idea At the Time is a standalone novel, told solely from from Adele POV. I think that might be my only complaint about this book. I would’ve liked to have heard Pete’s POV at certain points in the story. But it didn’t take away from me enjoying this story. This is a forbidden romance. This is probably one of my favorite forbidden romance novels that I have read so far. I know this is also one of my all time favorite Kylie Scott’s books. This story flowed well and the pace worked for these characters. This is a slow burn, but this story really couldn’t be told any other way.

What I liked the most about this story was that even though there is the emotional aspect of the story, it was also funny and had some spicy sexy times as well. I loved Adele so much in this story. My heart broke for her on many occasion but I loved her sass and quick witted comments. She definitely kept Pete on his toes.

This story follows the journey of Adele and Pete. Adele is a young woman who, when she was eighteen was sent away. She also at the young age of 18 made a pass at her dad’s business partner, who happens to be much older than her. To say she left things a little messy is an understatement. Fast forward 7 years and she is back home for her dad’s wedding. And forced to face Pete again. Now she is an adult and willing to put things in the past and just move forward. But will Pete be willing to let bygones be bygones?? Can these two get past the past incident and get on the right track again?? Read this book o find out.

I loved how Ms. Scott wrote this story. I enjoyed the flashbacks to show the connection and friendship that Adele and Pete began years ago. I also loved how she started to book in the thick of the story!! No unnecessary build up or filler…we got right to the point!!!

I would 100% recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of angst filled forbidden romance. Also if you like a friends to enemies to lovers story this is one you will want to read. Anyone who is a fan of Kylie Scott’s books, you don’t want to miss this GEM!!!

**ARC provided in exchange for an honest review**

Disclaimer: I've never read a Kylie Scott book that I haven't loved, so I went into this book with high expectations. It met every single one of my expectations plus some. Age-gap romances can either be really good or really bad and I was so happy that this goes in the so good category! There were lots of things I liked, so let me list a few:

1. Adele. She is someone who has spunk as a teenager and the perfect sense of humor/spunk as an adult. I loved her cracks towards Pete when they first see each other after so many years. I like that she is brave enough to show her face after the teenage embarrassment. I also liked that as the story progressed, she didn't just roll over, beg, or give up. She reminded me a lot of my friends and is someone I would love to hang around with.

2. I loved Pete and Adele's friendship when she was a teenager. He was truly a friend to her without it being creepy. I also loved Pete and Adele's interaction as adults. She gave as good as she got and didn't let him pull his usual shenanigans because by the time she sees him as an adult, she knows him and his issues too well as a friend and isn't afraid to call him out. Their back-and-forth was fantastic; so funny and sharp, it truly felt like you were looking at people who had been friends for years. It made me want to root for their happiness!

3. Shanti. She is the best stepmoms of all stepmoms. I feel like if it weren't for her, there would probably not have been a Pete and Adele.

4. The heat! This book will melt your panties off! There is one scene in particular....whoooo boy, someone grab me a fan because it is HOT!

Overall, I really wish I wouldn't have read this book so fast; these characters were great and their chemistry was perfection. It's one of those books I didn't want to end because I enjoyed Adele and Pete so much!

I really liked this book, was not your typical love story, age difference, baggage from both sides, long separation between them a lot of unknowns which made it interesting as the book moved along. I love dry humor, Pete and Adele were spot on with their snarky exchanges.
