I love the knowledge that Rachel Pollack gives throughout this book. Wonderful for any level of tarot reader. I have been studying tarot more than 15 years and she really shed a different light on the subject.

This is the perfect book for anyone who wishes to learn how to read the Tarot with the Rider-Waite deck. It's in depth, explains all the symbolism and divinatory meanings. It's a very user friendly book, although can be a bit dense to use on hand at readings (especially when interpreting Major Arcana cards). Otherwise, a very interesting and useful read. I am so glad I bought it.

I have bought this book with my first Tarot deck. The explanations in the book are very clear and it seems as if you were reading a novel when you go through the descriptions of the Major Arcana or the 4 suits.

This is an excellant book; illustrative, informative and, easy to understand. The writer includes the cultural history and mythology of the cards making interpreting them more feel more natural. It should be required reading for any beginning reader.

This book is a "must have" for anyone seriously involved in the study of the Tarot. It is the equivalent of a very old, rare and expensive bottle of wine: It must be considered a treasure and consumed in full respect and honor.

This book came highly recommended to me, but I am not impressed. I have been reading my own cards for years and wanted to find another perspective but I find it very hard to read, too wordy and not easy to reference when you are doing a reading. I did not see any other comments mention that fact that there were numerous typos in the introduction. This turned me off immediately, especially since she said she studied English in college. I will likely be selling this one and move on to something more user friendly and applicable to today. Sorry to say ....

I bought this book thinking it would help me with cards definitions and such but in reality it focused more into comparing cards and past history and a lot of mumbo jumbo. What I wanted was clear simple definitions and explanations. Well this book did no helped me at all with that. It dealt more with comparing each card with different decks and some of the history of the tarot and it's evolution. That's fine and very good if your studying the tarot in a serious manner but of your beginning and all you need is a little guidance with deciphering the meaning of the cards this book was basically useless in that aspect. Out of a two page description of a card maybe one paragraph of maybe five sentences actually dealt with the card description, the rest was basically fluff, comparisons and physical description of the card. It's a very good book for a serious study of the cards. I would still recommend it and I would buy it again but I wouldn't use it day to day as a reference book. For reference I bought other books that actually helped me much better! Don't get me wrong Ms. Pollack did a very good job with her references and comparisons but I wish she had more card interpretations and meanings instead of all that fluff. If you want a history lesson on tarot and deck comparisons and personal experiences and a lot of fluff maybe this book is good for you, but if all you need is simple definitions and card explanations on their meaning this book will be of little help. Of course this is only MY opinion and a lot of people do like it, I like it. I don't think this is useful for beginners and weekend readers. I would consider this book and it's study if your a serious tarot reader and wish to enhance your knowledge on the tarot studies.
