this book is very educational and helpful in knowing what your second grader will be learning this year. I feel like I now can confidently help my child with any homework she will bring home and perhaps answer questions she may have about what she is learning.

I homeschool my son who is going to second grade. I started buying this book when he was in kindergarten and in second grade. It gives me a little added insight as to everything that I must cover in that particular grade level. Chapters are organized by subject level (math, geography, science, music, etc.) and it's very easy to read and understand. The book gives you a lot of background information for example on history, so you can refresh your memory on specifics. Love, love this book!!

Every parent should have these books for the grade school children. It's a great way to know if your school and/or child are keeping up with your childrens grade level. I used the book in the summer, prior to my childen entering the grade to make sure they were ready for their next school year.

I used these with my older grandchildren and loved them. Now with 2 new little ones to teach, I find I like them even better. The children enjoy the stories and information in history and geography is laid out in a clear and concise manner. I highly recommend the entire series to anyone who home schools or anyone who doesn't but wants their child to get a better education.

We will be homeschooling our daughter and bought this book to assist me with the teaching. I especially liked this book for the History section. Gives the info, skims the surface for a 1st grader to grasp with out going way too in depth. Neat pictures are included to use along with the reading. And it gives great tips on additional resources to use in conjunction with it.

I just got this one (used, good condition - and it seems practically like new) because we loved our K-level book so much. It's a great book to take along on a trip for being able to open and read together on so many topics, without having to bring a lot of workbooks/school books, etc. My kids and I can curl up with this (again, the K book, which is like this) book and discuss and read for a long time. I love this series!

This is my first year homeschooling. I still kind of feel a little lost. But this book definitely helped give me a general, vague idea of what I needed to focus on. It also has a ton of different materials inside (i.e. fables, poems, stories, history stuff, etc.).

We will be using this with our granddaughter. She just turned three and we are half way through the "What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know". We are so pleased with the Kindergartner book that we can't wait to progress to the First Grade book. We do use some supplemental materials (e.g. [...]) but these books provide a strong framework upon which to build.

A great read for especially for new parents to help them prepare their school age children for continued and fun learning. It also helps parents be aware of the school learning expectations and keeps them ahead of their offspring's learning curve. It is a big help to read the author's introduction to the book as it lays out how parents can use the book effectively. There is also a Kindergarden edition as-well-as first through six-grade editions. An inexpensive investment in a child's education and a tool to assist hard-working already over burdened modern parents.

This book effectively portrays the primary concepts (outside of math and writing) that children are learning at charter schools using the core knowledge system. My son loves the history lessons and stories. Highly recommend this book for parents with kids in both public and charter school.

Great book . Very easy to read . The book is divided into sections for Matha, science, visual arts, history geography etc.
It helped my kids a loot for the standardized tests at school. Would highly recommed to everyone.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the basic knowledge that a 6 year old can use as the foundation for a successful experience in elementary school. I am using it as a guide to provide enrichment lessons for my god-son.

A very useful series to help parents or grandparents to teach the kids.
(1) Offer knowledge from easy to difficult, from simple to complex, from brief to detail contents. The well organization help the parents or grandparents to easily follow;
(2) A part of articles can be read by parents of grandparents, the other can be read by kids;
(3) The selected topics are interesting to kids;
(4) This series can not be used instead of school texts, rather, it is a supplement for schooltexts.

This book was purchased as a supplement to homeschooling it is not intended to be the only or the main text. We are using Core Knowledge as the curriculum (If you don't have it, get it - plus its free if you are homeschooling), and they use this book a lot as a reference. After looking at it I definitely wouldn't want to only use it for that purpose. I am sure though that its contents will only add to a well-rounded curriculum.

The publishing date shows 1999 which led me to falsely believe that this was the old publishing, but it is unfortunately the new "Common Core" series, which I quickly returned. I want nothing to do with Common Core being taught to my children. I found a used copy of the old publishing elsewhere which is wonderful. We homeschool and I base the year's curriculum and topics on these books.
