Having just received, looking through table of contents and thumbing through, I have to say I wish I had this when I was a teen. There is a lot of good info in this. I got it for my kids and I'm glad I did. Will update this when I read more though it.

This book handles what it does cover very nicely-many explanations about puberty, relationships, sex, gender identity etc.
I wish I had this book when I was a teen if only to learn about menstruation and feminine hygiene products!
I have given it to my 14 year old daughter to read after looking through it.

I was surprised to find little to no information regarding substance abuse or mental health. If a teen picks up this book, (which they might as some of the topics are quite compelling)I would have expected a few chapters on smoking, drugs, depression, suicidal ideation etc. This is a huge missed opportunity for this very vulnerable target audience! Maybe in the second edition Jane!

As I was preparing to post this review, I noticed that Jane Fonda's Being A Teen: Everything Teen Girls & Boys Should Know About Relationships, Sex, Love, Health, Identity & More is ranked #1 in Teen Health books. Bravo! Being A Teen addresses many of the challenges a 21st century teen faces in plain English. Being A Teen is a perfect gift to give a preteen or early teen (ages 11-13). The gift of this book could, in turn, potentially facilitate an opportunity for the preteen/teen recipient to ask further questions about myriad issues of transitioning into adulthood. Highly recommend.

I really pay close attention to what my grandaughter reads and I wish I'd had this book myself. It really describes how peer pressure can force you into bad decisions for the fear of being alone, or not liked. Excellent in explaining body parts what they do as some parents have issues or get embarassed by these personal questions that I feel linger in teen's minds. This book lets them read before they act..that to me is worth every word. I do agree that drugs, smoking those issues should of been addressed but again..peer pressure, self esteem..is usually key in those issues as well. Jane might of made mistakes, but haven't well all. I don't agree with the negative review on here, and yes, she's been married 3 times..this book isn't about marriage and maybe had she had someone to talk to as her mother died when she was 12, just think how different her life could of been. Her dad was gone alot. Personally, if your a parent, grandparent, I highly recommend this book..my grandaughter is 14 and appreciates the fact that this Grandma is paying attention!

Needed book on the issue of adolescent health. Would like to see more discussion on marijuana as it is a very important topic facing young people The book does mention marijuana's role in disrupting development but it could have been a whole chapter as could smoking given these are two enormous health issues for youth. Nicely designed and presented.

At first I was reticent with Jane Fonda being involved with this subject (she is not a nurse nor a doctor, after all) but after reading sections to myself, I am amazed at how I so wished I had a book like this when I was a teen. No more thinking "I am the only one" after reading this book. Have purchased copies for friends with teen children. A must read for you all

I read this and wrote comments on sticky notes before giving it to my 14 year old niece. I wish I'd had this when I was her age. It was a combination of my personal experience which was reading
'Are you there God, it's me Margaret?" and going to PPH with my mom and Girl Scout Troop at 14. The book will be very helpful to adults for talking more openly and accurately about the teen experience.

While Ms. Fonda gives some great advice for victims of sexual abuse in her book much of her other sexual advice is misleading to teens.

I would never suggest to teens that it's a good idea to abandon their religious belief system and disobey their parent's teachings regarding chastity. Studies show that couples who wait to have sex until after they are married have more stable, happy marriages.

Why would I ever want this piece of communist garbage ever telling my teen anything is "Right On".

I would not want a cook book authored by Adolf Hitler

or

"How I Saved The American Health Care System" by Barack Hussein Obama.

"Here's Janie!"

Jane Fonda on riding that North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun in '72:

"Sorry somebody took a picture"
