Accurate, straight-forward approach. The perfect resource for starting this conversation with my 8 year old. This is just the book I was looking for- it presents the "typical" scenarios, but presents the atypical (conception with dr's help, c-section) scenarios as well in an unbiased look at life.

I bought this late in my pregnancy for my daughter though we haven't gotten around to looking at it until now that my baby is about six months old. I pulled it out because i knew it had a section on good touching and bad touching, and with the recent controversy in the media i wanted to make sure that she knows those things in particular. She already knows things like vagina and penis, pee comes from your bladder, though she's still under the assumption that babies are made by chewing gum (i chewed a lot of gum when i was nauseated and always said "It's for the baby," oops :D)
She pages through it and asks me to read her whichever page looks interesting. I like the colorful illustrations and will leave it laying around so that she can pick it up and page through it whenever she likes, and can ask any questions she wants.
As far as the information within the book everything is great, except for one thing. I'll probably print out something from my label maker to fix it, but it says that when a baby pees in the womb, the pee is directed out of the mother's body with the mother's pee. Sorry, that's not how that works. If the writers didn't want to deal with the baby drinks its own pee in the womb thing they should have left out any mention of it at all, rather than give false information.

This book helped take the awkward out of the questions that come up from my boys. I appreciate the pics and info for sharing with my boys. They do giggle at some of the pics, but I know they are learning as well. The book seems to be age appropriate and teaches the "facts of life" with a scientific and family values based approach. Much appreciated!

I especially like how the book was carefully researched and contains facts that its young readers can understand. I wanted something like this to read and show to my grandchildren as their parents were unsure how best to approach questions and the desire for knowledge about all of the topics you cover. A helpful and very important part of the book, as a former child protection officer is the section on 'Okay Touches, Not Okay Touches'. I love how this was included and I can't wait now to sit down with some of my grandchildren to read it.
Thankyou
Thankyou

This is a perfect conversation starter for kids. My soon to be 6 year old has left the bubble of home and daycare. Now in big school she is hearing the facts of life from other kids. I used this to discuss some of the topics she brings home and to continue our conversations about bodies, behavior and boundaries.
Some details are too much for 5, so we work with the chapters that are appropriate for now.

Good book for going over the basics of where babies come from with my kids. Detailed enough to get their questions answered, not too detailed though that it teaches them beyond their age level (8 and 6)

I work in the medical field and believe in proper terminology from the beginning. My mother in law and sister in law decided to teach my 4-year old the wrong words to use (I wasn't happy). This book has the right words and I find it important to teach children about their body and what is and isn't okay. This gives a good visual understanding. When I bought it, I thought it was an average size book but its bigger which is good for kids.

This book is so great. Well done in answering those hard to talk about questions are kids ask. My 9 year old was asking everything. I'm so glad I got this book. We read it together and it was perfect.

Straightforward explanations of gender differences, appropriate vs. inappropriate touches, and how babies are made and develop, and how they are born. Appropriate for my 6-year old daughter - she didn't quite get it when she was 5.

a pretty good book, accurate descriptions. my almost 4 year old had been asking about her pregnant aunt and how the baby was going to get out, it does a pretty good job without being too graphic as far as childbirth. i think some of it is a bit much for my 4 year old and i don't think she needs to read about erections so we skipped that but overall not a bad buy

This book explains everything! My son was asking me about the birds n' bees so I bought this book to help as a visual aid to my lecture. After going through the book with him once, he has never asked me a question about sex since. The illustrations make the book very easy to understand and are very child-friendly.

I purchased this book to help explain the birds and the bees to my 6 year old boy, and I was very pleased with how everything was presented. My boy didn't feel uncomfortable going through the book with me, and everything that I had wanted to explain was explained in an easy-to-understand way. I recommend this book to anyone wanting/needing help explaining that "It's not the Stork" to their children.

This well-written and illustrated book made some delicate and otherwise uncomfortable topics much easier to discuss with my 5-year old daughter. She loves the book. It's written in chapters so you can navigate it topically or go from start to finish. Highly recommend for families of all types.

Perfect for when your kids start asking questions. We only showed our daughter what she was asking about, and the rest can be explained later. Easy for kiddos to understand, and it's not inappropriate. Very tasteful, and well put together.

I really like the humorous touch added to help explain things to your children. I have a 7 year old who is asking questions, and I think this will be right down his alley. There are some sections that will be too old for him though, so I plan on skipping them for now. We also have a 4 year old but he is too young for this still.

My five year-old got really interested once she realized what this book was about. We read the whole thing, and the next few nights she wanted to look at it again. It brought up some good questions and gave us a chance to talk about some new things.

After researching books on this topic & buying a couple others, I was disappointed to say the least, on the selection. I came across It's Not the Stork & It's So Amazing & decided to get them from the local library. These books are very well written & the illustrations are colorful & fun for kids. Robbie Harris adds some great humor while explaining where babies come from and the differences between boys and girls. It doesn't say too much, and that is important. My 8 year old son enjoyed reading it! THANK YOU Mr. Harris!
