Cover is hard and protective, pages are floppy and easily turned, doesn't require too much muscle power to get to the next page. Could use more pictures of kittens. All in all, it does everything I expect a book to do.

Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture is an absolutely indispensable reference - if you're in the business of writing Enterprise Applications. Clearly and articulately presented, with lots of hard-won wisdom and insight - it's more topically relevant than to enterprise applications than the gang of four, etc - and of equally high quality.

I had read the Microsoft® .NET: Architecting Applications for the Enterprise by Dino Esposito.
It is good book for beginner enterprise developers.
Dino referenced to EAA many times in his book.
So once finishing reading I decided to read the EEA.
This book is more academic and has more information about Enterprise Development.
I think this book must be read by all enterprise developer in order to structure their knowledge

This book is not for beginners. The patterns match many constructs I've built over the years. It is pretty comprehensive and a foundation for the newer patterns of SOA and WOA. A good addition to any architect's library.

A must read for all software developers that want to build powerful enterprise applications.
Very well organized, it explains each layer in enterprise applications, and each pattern you may find in a layer, and how to choose between them.
One of the best thing of this book is that presents a common language for software developers to be able to understand each other.

This is a well written book, with resonable explanations and samples. If you are familiar with patterns by GOF and distrubuted architecture patterns then there is not much new in this book. If not this is a must read and serves as a basis for platform independant review of a good cross section patterns to be applied in enterprise architecture, in which RDBMS's are always a key component. My expectations were high based on Mr Fowlers earlier works, not to say this is a lesser work, just it has been well covered before this work by Mr Fowler.

This book sets forth essentially everything I've learned over the past twelve years or so about how to write enterprise applications (and many things I hadn't learned -- and now won't have to learn the hard way) in clear and easy-to-understand language.
All of Mr. Fowler's books are worth reading. This one, along with Refactoring (ISBN 0201485672), are on the closest shelf to my computer and (I expect) will remain there for years to come.

Martin Fowler is a great speaker and presenter. I felt this book felt short of his image and wasn't all that good. If Martin were not the author of this book, I suspect that it would not have sold any copies.

Given the date this book was written, I understand the many positive reviews.
Offcourse we now are almost 2012 and 10 years of evolution in IT makes a vast difference which makes this book dated.
With today's ORM tools like JPA, (N)Hibernate, Torque, .. more than 50% of the book is irrelevant.
It might come in handy when we would like to create our own 'sort of' implementation of such tools, but why should we...
The best way to look at this book is as if you were buying a Windows Millennium book for your windows seven OS.
Some things might seem helpful and maybe even are, but there is no good reason to spend 50$ or 40 on this.

This is one of the stinky and crappiest architecture book I have read.
The more i read the more I was frustated and reading further.
The sample code doesnt match the explanation provided. The sentences are so vague seems that the author was drunk while writting this book ..
The best part of the book is the title very fancy and inviting .. but the book is really a crap.
I would recommend
