This book captures and analyses several significant events in the post-Revolutionary War period that shaped the young republic. Mr. Ellis effectively conveys the personalities and circumstances in which they worked and strived to advance their positions, though some of the analysis extends beyond storytelling to historical debate, something better appreciated by scholars than the average reader.

Mr. Ellis has a fantastic way of delivering history. I find this book to be well organized and although I'm not a historian it appears to be well researched. There were a lot of historical points that I was unaware of such as the way our founding fathers disliked: political parties, campaigning, the aristocracy of Europe, and organized religion. There seems a little too much embellishment in the delivery of the story but overall this is a wonderful book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Took my time and read it slowly to absorb the content. Didn't realize there were political party issues even back then. The author covered a lot of material and it was well written.

Founding Brothers is one of the best books written on the most influential founders of the American nation. It goes in depth into the relationships and the politics of the period and makes you wish we had a few men like this walking the halls of Congress today.

Good read. An in depth look at some very interesting relationships. Demystifies much of the lore regarding the revolution. John Adams was a fascinating man in an era when politicians were much more than the shills they are today.

The story was really interesting but I felt the author repeated the same facts many times.
If you are interested in the truth about the revolutionary period I would recommend this book.
It reads like non-fiction but was worth it.

A fantastic book that presents some of the major questions facing the country immediately after the Revolution. Ellis is one of my favorite historians to read, presenting deep subjects in a very engaging way.

Loved the book. Many worthwhile insights into the founders of our nation, and particularly how they interacted. Strongly recommended for anyone, but especially if you are interested in the American revolution.

This book contains chapters that describe slices of early American history, and the men involved, beginning with the Burr/Hamilton duel, and ending with the reconciliation of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson at the end of their lives.
It's an excellent book and I was sorry when I finished it. The only flaw is that in some cases, particularly the duel, the author seems to beat the subject to death. Despite this, I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in the establishment of our nation.

This is a very entertaining and enlightened look at early American History. Going into this all I knew were the vague memories left over from basic history classes in high school and college. Yet this book was very accessible and easy to read. This is the best scholarly type writing I have run across. It is crisp, to the point, and frequently funny. Absent is the pretentiousness of other scholarly writers who attempt to put out a work for the layman. But the true gem is in what Ellis decides is important to tell. He gives you real insight into the people by providing interesting details into their personal lives and characters. This is a nice job from start to finish and I recommend it for anyone who has any tiny interest in American History.

Ellis, an authority and prolific writer on the founding fathers, delivers another view of the founding spirit that made America.
Ellis has plenty of new information, and a different angle with this one.

Ellis' understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the Founding Fathers and their interactions during the crucial times from the Declaration of Independence through the Constitution and the Federalist/anti-Federalist debates should be required reading for every high school student.

I needed this book for a college course. Having read it, I will not be selling it. This is an excellent book that delves into what formed our country into what it is today. I would heartily endorse it for anyone who is an American History buff.

Founding Brothers is a remarkable book. It is both readable and engaging, as well as informative. The book humanizes the founders and shapers of America, resulting in a deeper understanding and respect for our political foundations . This book should be required reading for everyone who runs for office, whether in the US or abroad.

This book was required reading for my American government class, and I'll admit that it is not my preferred reading. However, if nothing else, it was as an interesting view into the annals of American history that I had never considered before. Probably wouldn't read it for fun, but again that's from a personal standpoint.

This well-written book demonstrated the value of Great research. Learning the personalities and dispositions of each of the "brothers" is invaluable when trying to understand where we are as a country and how we arrived there. This book teaches well.

Founding Brothers describes the relationships between major figures in the early days of our Republic, a different slant on the history. I read it several years ago and bought it this time as a gift for a niece who wanted more information about the era.

As a history student and an admirer of our Founders, I absolutely love Founding Brothers. The stories that comprise the book are vivid and thought provoking. Money spent on this book is money well spent.

It is fascinating to read how personalities and people issues are similar between then and now. It is a miracle that we made it through this part of our history. I also found it interesting to see that these founding brothers were far from perfect. Very well written !

Even though I'd seen and heard multiple items about the founding generation, I was pleasantly surprised that I learned something new from this work...namely that the discussion of the location of the new capital was seriously sidetracked by an abolitionist delegation's visit (which was even blessed by fellow abolitionist Ben Franklin shortly before his death). Highly Recommended, a great yarn.

Excellently researched and written, this volume is an interesting look at the men (and Abigail Adams, too) who kicked off our nation's history with enduring success. A masterful work, albeit slow-going at parts.

Very insightful. I came away from reading this book with a clearer understanding of the conflicts and philosophies of government of the founding generation. Also, I now have a much greater feel for the character and human dimension of the generation that led us through the revolution and early republic years of the 1790's. Must reading for anyone whose knowledge of the period is confined to survey courses in Amer Hist in high school or college.
