A delightful and unique book that charms you all the way over with the adorable drawings and interesting trivia.

Did you know that owls cannot move their eyes?
Or that the Chinese leather turtle pees through its mouth?
Well, I didn't!

The illustrations are fun, drawn with a light touch, simple but excellently detailed. A great combination of art and biology and would be a great addition in a child's learning period. To anyone's reading curriculum actually!

Review copy supplied by publisher through NetGalley in exchange for a rating and/or review.

This is the perfect little book for an animal lover, or just anyone who loves amazing their friends and family with their knowledge of random facts! I, myself, have already amazed my sister with some fascinating facts about polar bears actually being black and bees never sleeping! I haven't read an illustrated book since I was in school but I loved the illustrations in this one. Such a unique style of drawing, Säfström managed to show off the animals personalities with just a pencil. A gem of a book, I highly recommend the paper version though, as the eBook was a little hard to read and be able to fully appreciate the illustrations.

Fans of nature, rejoice! The Illustrated Compendium of Amazing Animal Facts is out at bookstores everywhere.

Maja Säfström's sense of humor is a hit. Her lovely black and white cartoon animals, and we love black and white art around here, are ace! You can check out her shop MAJASBOK. And you should, because along with this book, there are some cards and tote bags you're going to crave.

I'm so glad this Stockholm sensation found her way to book publishing. It put many smiles on faces when I passed it around and you're going to love this book and share it with some other wild, animal lover you know.

This is such a great, fun, charming little book that isn’t so little! At over 100 pages full of whimsical illustrations, the compendium is delightful and humorous. Säfström’s drawings are great and I just keep thinking I’d like this tattooed, and this, and this. I especially loved the little bats and octopus. The facts are super interesting as well. Who knew goats peed on their own heads! I certainly didn’t, and I love goats!

This is an exuberantly illustrated book for kids of all ages loaded with very cool facts about your favorite – and not so favorite – animals, insects, fish, and other critters.

You’ll be heading back between the covers for Maja Säfström’s boisterous art as well as her collection of off beat creature facts – everything from your not so friendly mosquito to your friendlier whale.

This book is guaranteed to lift your spirits and help you see the amazing diversity of life …and art! It’s what you need today – am I right? I am! Help yourself! You won’t regret it!

The Illustrated Compendium of Amazing Animal Facts by Maja Säfström was a big hit. Not only is it beautiful and a little antique-y (yes, I just made up that word) on the outside, but inside, it's whimsical, black and white illustrations are brilliantly done! The text is fun, engaging, and informative. I learned right along with my kiddos! My son, who is an animal lover, especially enjoyed it. I highly recommend this book!

Oh, and who can resist that title!? ;)

Reading this fascinating book is like eating popcorn, you just can’t stop. I found myself reeling off little known animal facts to anyone who was nearby – Did you know ants don’t have lungs? Or that pigs cannot look up to the sky? Accompanied by droll, adorable pen and ink drawing of animals (some accompanied by witty little cartoon thought bubbles), this book is a must for any animal lover, whatever their age. Highly recommended

This book is awesome for two things. 1. The illustrations are great! 2. The few facts about each animal are so interesting. Every page I wanted to read the facts out loud to share with everyone! I definitely recommend this to anyone, any age, who has an interested or love in animals.

What a great family book! The illustrations are simple and fun and minimalistic. My son (2 1/2) loved flipping though and naming the animals while learning new ones. I learned some crazy facts. This will have a place in our new house as a "coffee table" read.

Did you know some butterflies don't ever eat? This cute coffee table book is filled with curious and random animal facts. The black and white illustrated book is short and can be read and appreciated under an hour. It's easy to read and quite entertaining for both kids and adults. A cute addition to any animal lover's book collection!

The Illustrated Compendium of Amazing Animal Facts is a hardbound collection of unique facts about animals by Maja Säfström. The author says the book “contains some of my favourite animals illustrated and presented along with one or a few fantastic things about each lovely one of them.”

At first, I thought the book did not have enough animal facts, since each set of pages just contained drawings of the animal and a few facts about that animal. But when I actually sat down to go through the book, I loved it. The book is not short - it has 120 pages - so I learned quite a lot. The black-and-white animal drawings are cute and artistic, and I enjoyed learning new things about a wide scope of animals. For example, did you know that a group of rhinos is called a crash? Or that rhino babies stay with their mothers until they are approximately three years old? This book was great, and I bet it would make a fun gift for someone.
