Very interesting book about cvoming to America to follow your dream all enclosed in the saga of the sinking of the Titanic and the aftermath of looking for reasons the rich made it onto boats and the poor didn't. Quite interesting and informative.

Anyone interested in adventure and courage aboard the Titanic needs to read this book. While fiction, many of incidents are true, such as the famous dress designer aboard, the Senate hearings after sinking of ship. Very interesting and easy to read.

.I learned more about actual, plus some added fictional characters, aboard plus the following trial to try to determine the causes and behaviors of crew and survivors. The title was a bit misleading at first . Insight into an ever fascinating, ever deplorable catastrophe and how it affected those who survived.

This story, while fiction, was well researched and much of the factual data about the Titanic was apparently quite true.........but what a great artistic ability to turn the story into the "historical fiction" it is. I enjoyed the whole of it, and would recommend it without reservation.

A great read, usually read mysteries, but have always had a fascination with events surrounding the Titanic and I liked the
storyline with the dress designer and was surprised at the end that this book is based in part on actual events.

I greatly enjoyed reading "The Dressmaker". It sounded interesting when I purchased this novel, but I found it to be based on historical facts and that made it all the more memorable. This being the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's sinking the timing for this story was right. The characters, some real, some fictional blended together in a mostly beleivable way.

I enjoyed the book and liked the portrayal of the main characters. I did feel that the way that the girl managed to get on the Titanic as Lady Duff's helper was a bit contrived. All in all, the plot was entertaining and kept my interest.

The characters had little depth. The connections between the characters were improbable. The hearing about the sinking of the Titanic was an interesting but minor detail. Altogether, I would not read this book but for the fact that it was a book club selection.

I really enjoyed this book. It was entertaining, interesting, and even educational! It incorporates alot of fact in with the fiction and is very well written. The information regarding the Titanic was great and made me feel like I was there. I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed the Dressmaker. Even though there are some sad parts about the Titanic I liked the characters and thought it was a fun book. I enjoyed reading about 1912 New York. Kate Alcott's description of the dresses and the fabrics was heavenly. I could almost see and feel them. I also liked reading the true facts at the end about the Titanic. I have already recommended this book to friends.

This book was recommended to be by a friend whose opinion I respect. The Dressmaker was a wonderful book from beginning to end. You are caught up in the story of her life, and can picture in your mind every event described. The Titanic sinking is brought to life in a very different way. I highly recommend The Dressmaker!

The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott is an interesting story of one of the Titanic's passengers who really begins her life on this doomed voyage. The author includes characters from real life (while the main character is fictional) which gives the story historical significance. It's a good read - the kind you won't want to put down until you see how it all unfolds.

A story with realistic characters and enough fact to make it interesting! Ms. Alcott is a masterful storyteller. The launch and sinking of the Titanic provide an epic background the polished characters.
