War Horse: (Movie Cover)A moving book about a boy and his horse. Although a little simple the story is set against the diificult and violent times of World War I. The story is not only about the realstionship between a young boy and his horse but the human characters are depicted with interesting detail. While certainly more interesting for someone interested in horses the book is also educational from a historical perspective. I recommend the reading of this book wholeheartedly.

War Horse
From the store.com
I heard the movie was worth going to see. I like to read the book first, if available. The book was really very differnt than any book I've read. It was told from the horses perspective. I was on a long car ride so, I got my reader out and read.
I had to laugh out loud a couple times, at myself for reading about a horse from a horse. It takes place during WW1 when horses were used on front lines by officers on both sides of the war. They were also used to pull wagons to pick up wounded soldiers. A lot of horses died and were badly mistreated. But they had some good people in the story also. I finished it and talked about it with my daughter inlaw. She was a little skepticle, and gave me the mother in-law look. But really the book was very good, and I would recomend it.

This book was definitely a fast read. There aren't a lot of names to remember and the story line is relatively simple. I like how the book is written from the horse's point of view. If you cry easily you will want to keep a tissue box close by. The end was good but a little vague.

Wonderful book! Read it in one sitting. Bought this copy for my sister's birthday. She'll love it, I'm sure. Can't wait to see the movie of the book, by Steven Spielberg, this Chirstmas. I cried throughout the book and would love to see the Tony-Award winning Broadway play of WAR HORSE, too. Wonderful story! ! !

Children's book. The writing is all right. Having grown up reading every possible book on horses found it lacking in the feel of a horse. But the story is important, and appreciated the fact that the central characters, no matter what side of the awe treated Joey and Tophorn as well as they could. Strong anti war sentiment.

My 8 year old granddaughter begged for this book, even though she was told it was sad and she would cry. She couldn't put the book down, and she did cry, but she loved it anyway. Although she is 8 years old, she is reading at level 4.7.

I ordered this book after seeing the movie. I didn't realize it was written as a childrens' book, but I would still have ordered it. It's fairly accurate to the movie, but leaves out some of the gory details and embellishsments. It's an easy read which goes quickly.

I enjoyed this book about a horse, its travels, and the humans who cared for him. It was a quick read, and fairly enjoyable. For me, the ending made the whole thing worth it. It was very moving and very sweet.

Because the theater production of War Horse was being shown near by I was interested in the story. Unfortunately I could not attend the play, but maybe some day. I would love to see the story come to life.

....any longtime horse lover is likely to enjoy even a little bit. A bit of history to go with the story too, which is nice. Knowing it is on (off?) Broadway and that Spielberg is considering a movie made it a must read too, to see how the story is executed in those media.

This book was truly enjoyable!! I have seen the movie & the play and was happy to discover how closely the play followed the book. I was happy to hear this story told from Joey's point of view. This was an exceptionally good read.

A short but great read. I was totally swept away with the story. Reading from a horses perspective was really very enchanting.
As humans we ask a lot of our horses...but to be a part of our wars well that is a task the horse has no choice about.
I am glad I read this book, there are parts of it that still haunt me. Thinking of horses in no mans land.....muddy, cold and hungry.
A sad war where so many lives were lost both equine, human and canine and all for what?
Worth the read definitely.

War Horse follows the story of Joey, a farm horse, throughout World War I. It's a great story of triumph, perseverance, love and devotion. Centered around World War I, Joey finds himself fighting for both sides and losing loved ones along the way. It's wonderful for both boys and girls, as everyone can relate and is more empathetic towards animals. This is a great book for middle schoolers and would be great to use in the classroom! I highly recommend this book, though, for all ages.

War horse is one of the most unusual and interesting stories I've ever read. The characters are so real, and the author does an excellent job of portraying them. The only thing I didn't care for was the ending. I thought it was to abrupt. Otherwise it was a very satisfying read.

The War Horse is written for children, but with more than a child's eye for detail. The author gets into the head of the animal and gives a horse' eye view of World War I. The story keeps your interest and it is easy to see why there is a Tony-winning stage play based on it and now a major motion picture as well.
I am no an avoid reader, but this story struck home and made me want to read it. I am rereading the story at this time, more for enjoyment than content. It is obviously an easy read, though terminologies flirt with more in-depth descriptions of action, mood and emotion.

Just what the doctor ordered! In this political year filled with so many negatives from opposing viewpoints, along with the usual stressors of life, reading this was a really nice vacation from it all. Though short, it was such a pleasure to read and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to get wrapped up in a sweet story.

Joey goes through hard training , battle, and losses and remained a sturdy work horse.
Even though the book is told from the horse's point of view, you get a great amount of details about the people around him.
There is also a big question: will Albert ever find Joey again?Through Joey we receive a message of hope and the search for peace in the midst of a battle field. "The author", Michael Morpurgo is superb in his historical accounts of the use of horses and the role of the cavalry during W.W.1."I would recommend this book to people who love horses and history. Currently I am looking forward in a very near future to see the play War Horse at the Lincoln Center,New York.
