I was really excited to read a new Kate Daniels story and was counting down the days for it to come out. I did not realize it was an old story I already read in an anthology. It is a good story just make sure you have not already read it.

Why are we being forced to choose if this book is Predictable, Some twists or Full of Surprises in order to be allowed to leave a review? Not cool the store, not cool

4.5-5 stars

This was a great story and addition to the Kate Daniels series. It is short but it's long enough to make the storyline interesting and not feel stilted.

Basically this story entails Kate and Curran attempting a "date night" but things go wrong as soon as they reach the restaurant. Things become more complicated when a young boy is in danger of being killed by a magical necklace and Kate and Curran have to figure out a way to save him.

There are some things that take place in this story that will pop up in future books (like how Kate becomes the Pack-liaison to the Guild) but nothing too serious. Overall, this was a great story that was very enjoyable and engaging. I'd recommend the whole series. :)

This is a novella that I have been wanting to read for a while. I was excited to see it was going to be published as a stand alone for Kindle. It ended up being a fantastic read full of all of the fun, action, humor, and magic that I have come to expect from this series.

This book takes place after Magic Slays and is set in the same time frame as Gunmetal Magic (Andrea’s story). Kate and Curran finally get away from the Keep on a rare dinner date only to have things go amok. A Navigator couple at the table over are exchanging gifts when the necklace the male Navigator gives the female Navigator clamps around her neck and kills her. Things get even stranger when the DA’s wife shows up and removes the necklace from the Navigator and clamps it on her young son. Kate and Curran take the young boy into custody and end up in a race against the clock trying to figure out to remove the necklace without killing the kid.

This novella (more of a short novel) had all the wonderful elements that I enjoy so much with the Kate Daniels series. There is a lot of action, some mysterious magic, and lots of humor. We get to visit the neo Vikings again and witness a fight with a truly evil duergar.

Overall I just loved this story and can’t wait to read more Kate Daniels. This is one of my favorite urban fantasy series and just never gets old. I love the action, humor, and wonderfully entertaining characters. I am all caught up on the series but have a few ebook novellas that I haven’t read yet. I am hoping to pick up Magic Stars soon and start reading Derek and Julie’s story. This series is highly recommended to all urban fantasy fans out there.

I picked this up in Gunmetal Magic where Magic Gifts previously appeared.

~ 5 Magic Gifts Stars ~

I am glad to see the novella’s for the Andrews team being published separately. I love returning to Atlanta and all its fast-paced and action-packed adventures.

This novella is in Kate’s POV and is during the same time frame as Gunmetal Magic. I always love return to Kate and Curran. A murder mystery takes place with a kids life in danger. Plus we finally see Kate deal with The Mercenary Guild and she resolves this issue in Grand Style.

If the book has Ilona Andrews name on it you are guaranteed a extraordinary entertaining read. They are a must read for anyone!

Read because it is part of the Kate Daniels world! It's just another day in Atlanta.... will it be a day of magic? Or a day without?

A smattering of Pack politics, Guild grumpiness, Viking lore and discovering what really makes someone family.

I love Kat, Curran and their world. This is a short story that falls between the the Kate Daniels series. Kate and Curran goes out on a date and of course they don't get to finish their meal before trouble comes calling. A mystical gold necklace with ancient runes cause a lot of magical problems. Kate and Curran has to hurry to solve the necklace mystery before a little boy dies. I highly recommend this story.

I checked Magic Gifts out from my local library. I remember reading this book years ago-- it was one of my favorite short stories, and I enjoyed reading it again. Best read if you are already familiar with the series. There are some major thread closures, so it's important for fans to read this if they want to stay on top of the Guild problem, and Andrea's coming out.

I was hesitant to read this because it was so short, but I was glad I did. It is a fun story filled with all the drama, excitement, humor and action you expect from Kate Daniels. The epilogue ties a nice bow on the end of this tale.
