I was hooked very early on and could hardly put the book down. As soon as I was finished, I had to read the next one. Debra does a great job of adding humor to the story, and by the end you are really rooting for the MC, even though the story centers around a demon!

Read all five books and really enjoyed all of them. The story is fast paced and the characters grow and evolve as you read through the series. Very funny in places. I am not very good at explaining why I like a book, but I read three or four novels a week and this series is one of the best. I like the kindle price too, thanks Debra!

I literally stumbled across this story while looking for something to read. The premise is very original and I sometimes felt like Wyatt when things started getting interesting. Looking foreword to her next adventure.

I have read all 4 full-length books currently available in this series. I highly recommend them all. Well written and interesting. The ideas are clever, each book held my interest, the character development Samantha undergoes is very convincing. I laughed aloud in a few places. I like the main characters and their relationships. This series stands head and shoulders above many others.

1.5 rating. I personally wouldn't spend money on this. Maybe I just didn't click with the writing or character, but it was very hard to read. I hate giving up on books, but I only could go as far as her visiting Wyatt when he has guests over before I just stopped. The writing was choppy with either too much ramblings or an inconsistent flow that hurt my head. It was awkward, with too much going into it to really be a good book for me. I couldn't even go a full page without skimming. And this may just be a personal issue, but the format was horrid on my eyes; as a visual reader, my eyes get distracted if the lines aren't filled out like professional books. It wouldn't hurt to fix it.

I just don't understand why I can't get into it, because it sounds great, but it just came off as really bad with a character I can't endear myself to anytime soon. Technical writing wasn't my thing, main demon was a bit annoying and all over the place in terms of execution, and the story itself was taking way too long to give me what the synopsis promised. I'll pick up where I left off when I'm not so irritated.

I love all things paranormal, so the fact that this book had demons, werewolves, and angels made it a major draw for me.
A Demon Bound is a hilarious fun romp that will leave you holding your side as you follow Samantha, a minor demon, in her escapades.
Her impish ways land her in a heap of trouble, and while it was her crush on the hot guy next door that kept me turning the pages, it was Samantha that made me wish it wouldn't end.

I decided to try a new author and I love this series finished all the available books in 5 days, now I want more. Spins a wonderful mystery and the storyline is relatable, even if most of the main characters are immortal.

It's okay. The author has a very good writing style and plenty of original ideas, which is absolutely refreshing, but I couldn't help but get past the feeling I was really just reading about her own personal fantasies beyond being a "middle-aged" woman. The second she threw that terminology in there, it kinda turned me off because I really just started to think I was reading about her...the author, being "horny" and not the character. Yikes. Just keeping it real people. Plenty of action, but its obvious she's never been in a real fight. If you like angels and demons and stuff, I would highly recommend, but otherwise, I was like "okay."

This book was awesome! I LOVE Sam! She had me cracking up for most of the book. If you love Angels and Demons, there is no way you would not love A Demon Bound. Sam goes on an adventure with a werewolf, her sexy human neighbor that she hopes will become her boyfriend, and an angel who wants to kill her one minute, and claims her as his the next. They are out to catch a killer, but Sam and her antics keep you chuckling through out the book. The book covers a very serious issue, murder, and Sam gets hurt along the way, but what do you get when an imp just has to push the limits? You get a must read book!

The main character was so unlikable and morally shallow (self-centred, uncaring, and treated couldn't care less when her pet hellhound was injured - among others) that I couldn't get further than halfway.
Writing wasn't terrible but nothing seemed to happen and, with there being nothing about the main character or her 'love interest' neighbour (whom she also treats like dirt) that I felt made me care much about them, I couldn't keep reading. Sorry!

I love the whole thing with a demon who really isn't all bad and an angel who isn't all that good either. Kind of reminds you of a yin and yang. It was a pretty funny story too. Nothing like dirty humor.

I liked the premise of the book, some kind of ultimate anti hero, which is why I bought it. The writing is decent, however, I find myself uninvested in the character. For some reason the duality of the character does not convince me; on the one hand she is an evil spawn and likes other's suffering, on the other hand she is a good person that cares about her hot neighbour. Which is why I am uninterested in what happens to her and therefore have been unable to finish it (which is rare for me). I guess this book is not for me.

unique take on the whole angels and demons, The main character Sam is very likeable and the situations she is placed in are sometimes goofy but overall good book, it made me buy the other 5 books and i read them in record time very good read.

I cannot say it was my type of book. It argues; sin being the norm, both in angels and demons.
It also argues that earth is more desirable than heaven or hell. It establishes angels and demons, it argues God's involvement in anything, by his lack of communication and knowledge . It evolves loosely without patterns or structured story line without any prize goal in mind.

Debra Dunbar is dramatist, eroticist, and farceur of this clever and engaging adventure. I was rooting for the charmingly raw protag Sam. So many interesting layers to this story filled with suspense, humor, and fantastical imagination. Read it - you will love it too!!!

I love the horror/fantasy/thriller genres, and am sometimes disappointed with what I've read, particularly if it's a new or unknown author. Maybe the characters are one dimensional, the pace is plodding, or there are too many things going on, or I just don't care what happens to anyone in the end. Well, this is not so with Debra Dunbar's A Demon Bound! I was so pleasantly surprised that I got as wrapped up in Sam's world as I did. For me, the true test of fiction is that I feel like I'm not necessarily part of the story, but am a close observer to everything going on, and I feel invested in seeing it through, and care what happens to the characters.

I wasn't sure I would like Sam's character, after all, she is a minor demon (or imp), but the name "imp" seems to suit her better, because it implies a more mischievous nature than an out and out evil one. Sure, she's done her share of not so nice things in the past, and she's a slumlord and all, but we can see she cares about humans more than she lets on. Plus she loves her hell-hound, horses and the hunk next door.

This novel is well-paced, the writing is really good, and the situations Sam finds herself in are...interesting. I finished it in a couple of late "reading into the night" sessions, because I was enjoying it so much. I have read the second book in the series, and it is just as good as the first, and I can't wait to read the next one. I hope Debra has a lot more ideas, and Sam has a good long life in her, because I really want to see how she evolves, and enjoy more visits to her world.

A fun book right up to the end where there was the dumbest ending I have ever read.
They fall asleep while watching movies, he throws a blanket over her to keep her warm and walks back to his house. Then the story says to buy the next book to read further adventures.
No cliffhanger to make you want to buy the next book, no nothing, just the end.
I guess we are to assume that they all lived happily ever after.

Put together a Demon who has been wearing human skin too long, her Hot human BFF/"relationship?", one seriously prudish werewolf AND an Angel who knows far more about Pride than the Virtues...and you have an amusing story. Send them off to save the remaining Registered Werewolves from an Angelic Serial Killer, and you have A Demon Bound! Well written. A delightful read.

This is a book which I wouldn't normally read past the first 2 chapters but I actually enjoyed it, and read the next one against my better judgement. The plot is nonsensical, the main character(s) very unsympathetic and writing could be better, BUT there is something very enjoyable about the series. However I probably won't continue unless they start stocking it in the library

It's just so clunky! The narration, the dialogue, the world building. It feels like being dragged across broken glass by my hair. So many awkward ways to tell me how imp magic works and how much Sam wants to have sex with her neighbor. The plot picked up a bit once the angel joined the bumbling cast, but then we are still treated to our sex obsessed protagonist. Possibly one of the hardest books for me to get through.

Could not get into this. Main character is awful and I found myself hoping the angel would just kill her. I understand she is supposed to be a demon and not a nice girl but the author lost me fast with the animal cruelty and killing, and saying she would have used a kitten if one was available. Seriously??? No thanks.

I just finished reading this first book in the Imp series ... and I must say that I don't understand why so many reviewers gave this book 5 stars. Yes, the author is a good writer. There were few errors in syntax, and it is clear Ms. Dunbar is good at putting her characters together. She has a talent. However, this is not a book that I would recommend because I simply 1) did not like the protag; and 2) the story took too long to get from point A to point B.

The main character, Sam, is an Imp -- and she is not a likable character. I love heroines/heros that I can cheer on -- even if they are bad, but Sam is not that type of character (not even close to a Sandman Slim). Here is an excerpt from the book, which completely sums up the main character: "You're amoral. You screw anything you can hold still. You don't care about anyone beyond what they can do for you at the moment. You're nasty irritating, crude, and reckless. You'd sacrifice us without a second thought[.]" The end of the story does not make up for Sam's amoral character. Yeah... there were some funny moments, but nothing redeeming (not even story ending) that would make me want to read more about this character. I think the author failed (epically) at giving the audience a "bad" person that we will still love to know. Since I can't get over not liking the character, I have no desire to read more stories about her. Additionally, the story seemed to drag on ... which is why it took me months to finish what I usually complete in 2 days to a week on my morning and evening train commutes. Way too much description about driving on the roads between Maryland and Pennsylvania! Maybe I'll rethink my opinion of this first book, and pick up the series later on, but for right now I can say that I'm just ready to let Sam go to Hel (ha!)

ALERT - How do I obtain refunds for kindle and audible version So? Author uses VERY outdated pop culture allusions and main character demon concerned with getting enough fiber in her diet. Demon suggests buying a pillow pet for a 19-year-old, refers to a movie named A Clockwork Orange and mentions writing letters to magazines. Um...what are magazines? Welcome to social media. Bad-ass demon more of a Depends-wearing, droopy-ass demon. Sad.

A Demon Bound is a well written book about angels and demons, by Debra Dunbar. The story is different and keeps you reading on. The author has a pleasant writing style that I enjoyed a lot.
The plot in this book is quite different in many ways and holds to a great pace of the book.

Samantha is one of the most different heroines I have read to date. She is completely atypical, arrogant but very likable, a demon unlike any other! Even though she is arrogant she does not come across as obnoxious, which I find is difficult to write well. Her best friend Wyatt is nothing short of being an awesome person! I find it interesting how he looks past "what" Samantha is but focuses on "who" she is! Gregory adds a nice character to the mix.

This is a surprisingly good book that was recommended to meby the kindle library. I really enjoyed it and will pick up more of this series in the future.

I bought this book based on all the 5 star reviews. But, I have to say that while it is well written (at least there aren't any noticeably bad grammatical mistakes, such as inappropriately used homophones or possessive/plural forms), I simply do not like the characters! And, that, for me, is a fatal flaw I can not get past. I will not be buying any more in this series. It will be interesting to see what future reviews of this book have to say. I am a voracious reader, a book a day, and primarily in the urban fantasy genre (Kim Harrison, Laurell K Hamilton,Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Carrie Vaughn, Jennifer Estep, Chloe Neill, Thea Harrison, JA Saare, Darynda Jones, Kalyna Price, JD Robb, Keri Arthur, Seanan McGuire, Sierra Dean, Christina Henry, Jim Butcher, Faith Hunter, Melissa Olsen, etc.), but, again, the characters here just are not my cup of tea.

Edited to add:
This grew on me after I finished it and gave it more thought. I am keeping my original rating because I still have problems with the primary character who is an unrepentant slum lord, eats her own finger, tortures and kills people for pleasure and then dismembers and arranges their body parts "artistically", enjoys sex rough enough to leave her arm hanging by a tendon, admires John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy, etc. But, that said, there are some interesting parts to it and if the author had made the main character more likable, this would have been a very good series.

After reflection, I did go ahead and purchase the other two books and enjoyed them a bit more than the first and, while I doubt I will go to the effort of reviewing them, I would probably give them 3 stars, perhaps even 3 1/2, if half stars possible, although they would not get a 4 from me. While I did like the other two better, they were less well edited and contained quite a few grammatical errors.

Should there be additional books in the series, I will most likely buy them to see if there continue to be improvements and what developments happen in the plot regarding the angels. (Don't want to give spoilers.)

4.5 Stars

Samantha Martin, or Sam, is a slumlord in Baltimore who likes collecting her own rents. In fact, that’s how we meet her, in a scene that ends with her bashing in the head of a tenant with a table leg—after being threatened with gang rape by the three men in the house. She was able to rip the leg off of the table because she’s a demon. She leaves the apartment relatively unhurt and with rent in hand.

But this scene, along with many others in which Sam insists that not only is she attracted equally to male and female humans (we are indeed all mighty attractive) but that she feels no loyalty to her own female form, I began to wonder: if you were without morals and possessed the power to take on any human form, why would you elect to be a woman? If your chosen profession is slumlord, a profession Sam adores, wouldn’t she have an easier time collecting rents if she were a burly dude? This small question gave way to many more throughout the first half of the book, where Sam’s character development was a little shaky...

Sam is a demon and has been laying low and living like a human for 40 yrs to avoid the angels (who kill demons on sight), but obviously, that changes over the course of this book. I don't want to give away any of the plot because half the enjoyment--for me at least--came from wondering where the author would go with this, so I will just gush about how much i like it instead. I'm really glad I took a chance on this book because the whole series has become one of my favorites in the span of a week; I feel sad that there's only 5 books so far--but hey, if you're just starting out this means you have 5 full length books to look forward to, right?

What I love about this is FINALLY: here is an author who has created a halfway decent demon protagonist. A major pet peeve of mine is Mary Sue characters--or worse, a Mary Sue character that reads like a middle-age stay-at-home-mom masquerading as a 20 yr old in an urban fantasy landscape.... I cannot stand them and unfortunately, Mary Sue characters seem to abound in UF.

Sam on the other hand, starts out morally ambiguous--she has a naughty, odd sense of humor in the 1st book (weird rape jokes and I suspect some of the pop culture references in here were before my time)--but at least there are no obnoxious self-righteous speeches every time she or anyone else contemplates killing or hurting someone--plus sometimes Sam is really funny (you can tell the author has fun with it). But even better than this is that, early on, you dont have to worry about her being loyal to the point of stupidity and/or trying to sacrifice herself in a convoluted plot to save some random humans (many UF series seem to require the heroine to selflessly sacrifice herself for some dude or person despite the fact that they appear to be totally undeserving of the gesture). Sam is practical, but like I said, the author obviously has fun with it so she's also prone to gratuitous violence--this chick even owns souls that she keeps inside of her in a constant state of torture (this alone should make you want to read this book), yet oddly enough, this all just comes off as almost playful impishness on her part and she still manages to be a sympathetic character---or at least, the author manages to evolve her into one throughout the series.

One negative thing I will say is that this first book is barely 300 pages and seemed to have plenty of typos (missing letters, periods outside of quotations etc) BUT, the other books in the series are longer and cleaner...just sometimes the punctuation is still outside the quotations, which drives me crazy.... For me, the fact that it's only $3.99 made up for that.

This is a good read with moments of insane hilarity. If you like tough smart heroine with a wicked and dark sense of humor give this read a try

The story is a dark one. Sam is a demon and she is unapologetic about it. She isn't whiny she is who she is. Sam isn't trying to be good or redeem herself she is simply following the rules(For the most part) in order to continue existing the way she wants to in the human plane of existence. I did get the feeling as I read along that she is becoming.....less demonic as her stay as a human goes on(40 years and counting).

There is some action and intrigue but the best part is getting to know the main character. Listen in the company of others at your own risk, there were many parts that had me laughing out loud. Keep in mind I have a bitter and Dark sense of humor so this book is right down my ally.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

So Much Fun! This is a book I have been wanting to read for some time, so when the author put up a R2R I jumped at the chance! I was not disappointed.

The Good:
The main character was a joy to read. She was mischievous and clever, not the overbearing strong willed heroine stereotype. The supporting characters were also well developed and not just plot devises used to push the story along, or have that ever present single piece of information needed for the resolution of the plot. The mythology of this book and the characters were also well written and maintained throughout the entire story.

The Bad:
The ending of the story was a big build up but then just kind of fizzled. There was plenty of action but then to just leave the story at that really left me with a ton of questions. I assume that since this is at least a 5 book series I will have to be patient to get those answers.
The copy I received did have some editing issues but not sure if this is universal to all copies. Also some e-features were also not available in my copy.

I liked this story. It has a different view on Angels and Demons. Refreshing, in a way. Scary in another, because if Angels really did do the things they did in this book it would be very scary. I liked the little Imp. She has a lot of spunk and fire. Looking forward to more stories.

Debra Dunbar`s debut novel is "A Demon Bound" and was released in July of 2012. The heroine is one Samantha Martin and she's a demon. More accurately, she's an imp and has been living among humans unbeknownst to the angels for forty years. She thoroughly enjoys life on earth as a human and revels in the sensations the human body provides. When she crosses a werewolf clan, she gets involved in a world that threatens to expose her to the angels, possibly getting her killed in the process.

Dunbar has created an amazingly fun protagonist in Samantha Martin. Dunbar has captured the mischievous spirit of an imp with this character as Samantha fumbles through human emotions she thought has been mastered many years before as well as new ones in the underlying danger through the book of staying under the angels' radar.

This book shows Dunbar's exceptional talent in accelerating a story through dialogue. I found myself wanting to skip some of her descriptions in order to keep the conversation from ending. Each character in the book is well developed and each skilfully contributes to the story as a whole. The quirks of each character are especially amusing.

For a debut novel, Dunbar has shown extraordinary talent and seems to have quickly found her author's voice. The dedication to details is superb and had me guessing at what real life locales match the places in her book since I live in the same area in which her books take place. A few I recognized immediately and others had me pulling out a map to trace Samantha's travels in the area. Dunbar maintains a blog and has been kind enough to pull together photos of the places that inspired the scenes in her book.

The Imp Series, of which "A Demon Bound" is the first volume, continues in "Satan's Sword" and "Elf's Blood". I look forward to seeing more of Dunbar's work. If you enjoy the supernatural and you enjoy a fast paced fantasy story, pick up "A Demon Bound." Hop on over to my personal blog, [...] to check out an interview with the author.

This book was funny, and surprise around every corner. It was not your typical demon and Angel interaction and therefore kept me captivated to learn more about each character. I liked the fact that even though Wyatt didn't have any supernatural powers he was smart and fearless in the face of superpowers. Some might consider him silly but his demon found him sexy. Really good read in my opinion.

I wasn't sure from the explanation that I would like this story about a demon but I am so glad I gave it a try. The author takes us to a very different view on demons and angels and I was hooked. The character has some nasty habits but they fit the story and her flaws make her interesting to read about. The lead is no typical lead but we are rooting for her. This story started a bit slow but once you are in you will be hooked. I finished this book and have moved right to book two. Can't wait to read more from this author.

I have just finished the series and I'm bereft that it's over. I loved it! I loved all of the characters, even the really horrific ones, because they needed to be there. I honestly don't understand the reviewers who complained about the terrible things Sam did. She's a DEMON people, what did you expect?

The good and evil theme is paramount to the story, along with the balance between the two. The changes seen in the main protagonists are so well done from book to book all the way to the end. And the humor, oh the humor is so magnificent!

Other people have explained the plot very well, so I'm not going to go into any details. I do, however, want to say wonderfully done Ms. Dunbar. Thank you for the pleasure you've given me. I will be reading more of your books.

This series is fantastic! It's really funny and often has unexpected plot twists popping up. I, myself, find it very unique. I suggest you get them all. I did :) Currently this one is free if you have kindle unlimited. That may not last so snatch it up now!

Please remember that this is a series about a demon so she definitely does some demonic things that don't conform to " good human" standards. And that makes even more sense when you think about it, because to turn into a "good guy" you kind of need to be a "bad guy" for it to matter.

*warning* there is some minor foul language which I was fine with but might bother some people.

A minor angel with an impressive kill ratio is attempting to kill as many werewolves as possible. Thus a werewolf convinces a female imp, with plenty of stored up energy, to hunt and kill this angel. The imp must do so without attracting the notice of a powerful angel enforcer. Not an easy task! It gets really exciting about a third of the way into this book!

What fun this book is! Sam is an Imp (a minor demon) living in the human world, just trying to enjoy herself and stay under the guardian Angel 's radar. Those efforts are all for naught when she accidentally kills a psychotic werewolf, and has to pay restitution to his pack leader. The story takes off from there, and involves werewolves, Angel politics, AngEl -demon relations, a hot potential human boyfriend and demon lifestyles.

The world building is skillful, and the author makes every character three dimensional and worth being interested in. As other have mentioned, this book is similar in style to the Charlie Davidson books by Darynda Jones. If you like those, you will almost certainly enjoy this.

I'm delighted that there are at least four more books about Sam, Gregory and Wyatt. I'm looking forward to meeting new characters as well! Highly recommended!

If it wasn't free, this would be the one star from me. In practice I found this reads like a rather boring romance novel, that tries to pose as something more. So glad I started reading this series! Debra really captured my attention from the very first chapter! Love the character Samantha Martin and all the trouble she gets in to. HIGHLY recommend reading this!

Sam is such an interesting protagonist (well, she's also an antagonist I suppose too). Not your typical snarky, young heroine that you find in UF. It was refreshing and I immediately went on to purchase the 2nd book.

I honestly do not understand all the 4&5 star reviews. Are they all friends of the author or just paid? Being a voracious reader especially of fantasy I found this book painfully hard to finish. I realize it is fantasy but does it have to be ridiculously unbelievable? I have to disagree with the reviewer who stated that the demon acted like a demon should, since when did demons give a damn about the killing of an unborn? Or anyone for that matter. A demon caring about her neighbor? Really? I enjoy reading about angels and demons especially angels but I am getting a little tired of reading about the good demons and the bad angels and demons beating angels so easily and why in the world would a angel admire a elf? Why are elves even in a book about angels and demons? I found myself rolling my eyes and shaking my head too many times to count while reading this book. I am not even going to get into how pathetic the werewolves are in this story. I definitely will NOT be reading anymore of this series.
