I was disappointed in this book, ever since Aveoth was introduced in this series I looked forward to his story. He seemed to be big and bad, but sad to say he was not that way in his book, never would have thought he would be so "under the thumb" of his own people nor care what they thought in his private lovelife. And he seemed to be a "wuss" to his mate, always saying sorry and begging her to stay, etc. Just so disappointing......

I wanted more from the Garlycan leader. I had read so much about this brooding, mysterious leader and was a little disappointed with his storyline.. The Lord Aveoth I read in earlier books seemed different than the one in this storey. I've never imagined Lord Aveoth as being soft.. Again, a little disappointed.
Wrath (New Species Book 6) :: Slade (New Species Book 2) :: Tempting Rever (Zorn Warriors Book 3) :: Brawn (New Species Book 5) :: Valiant (New Species) (Volume 3)

The last book was better. It had great suspense, passion, and it kept my attention. This was just ok. Nothing in this book made it feel like one of Laurann Dohner's books. If this was the first book in the series, I wouldn't look forward to reading anymore.

Spoilers included....
Just like Kraven, this is another book where I loved the hero and hated the heroine. Just when I thought some of these heroines couldn't get any more childish or immature, another one shows up. Just once, I would like to read a female lead from this author who sounds like they have a more of a vocabulary outside of the 9th grade. Everything about Jillian was equally as annoying with Batina, you can tell they're definitely related. Aveoth deserved better, just like Kraven did. My assessment has NOT changed on that. Dusti was tolerable. Batina was obnoxious and bratty. Kira was decent. Glen kept asking so many questions I wanted to strangle her, which I'm sure would have been doing Veso a favor. Jadee was the only feisty chick here. I thought she was perfect for Lavos! Gerri was resourceful, but kind of desperate for Wen. That brings me to Aveoth...
To be honest, nothing exciting really happened until the last few chapters of the book. Don't get me wrong, I got Lord Aveoth right from the beginning, he just wanted someone to genuinely want HIM, and not for what he could do for them, so I'm glad we got to see a softer side of him. I was intrigued with him from the very first book, which I'm sure a lot of people were. That's why Jillian got on my nerves, because at their very first meeting, she decides to use Lord Aveoth to beat up Boon and Cole by promising him her body. That was not a good move! That was just childish and immature. I can't see a grown woman making an offer like that if she wanted to be taken seriously. Definitely not when she's using phrases like "Go to hell, dog breath" and "You want to do me, don't you?" What adult female still talks like that?
For the love of all things spiritual, could the author stop introducing new characters and leaving out old ones? I noticed that this is her pattern with every series, and I've read the whole New Species, Mating Heat, Cyborg Seduction, and Zorn Warriors as well, so make no mistake, I am a fan. However, that does get frustrating, though. Where is Red's book? Trayis, perhaps? Micah, maybe? Graves, you think? Kar, anyone? Michael, conceivably? Garson, possibly? Kelzub, potentially Fray, imaginably? Chaz, feasibly? Yern, could be? I could keep right on going, but you guys catch my drift.
I understand that every book needs a supporting cast, but there are so many openings for new stories that it gets ridiculous to keep introducing new characters after a while. I say that because I just heard about the newest book, Creed. She just keeps writing for new characters without expounding on the old.
That's not to say this book is not without a few surprises. For one thing, I'm elated that Decker Filmore finally got what was coming to him. Also, I never would have guessed that not only was Lord Aveoth a GarLycan (Gargoyle and Lycan) but he's also part Vamp too. That was a delightful surprise. Even more delightfully surprising was the fact that he's actually Velder's son he never knew he had, which makes Aveoth Drantos and Kraven's half-brother. I knew there was something there! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the twist. Too bad I sat through chapters of much of nothing going on just to get to the best parts. I just hope in future books that at some point this does come out. At least to his brothers and their mates, especially since Aveoth is mated to Bat and Dusti's cousin. They're all family. They deserve to know!!!

I confess that this book was what I most expected. From the beginning the figure of Aveoth has become something mysterious throughout the series.
As leader of the GarLycan, he was strong and feared by all. Being an ally of him was a privilege.
From the beginning of the series, we meet Decker and all his tricks to be the general leader, even if he has to sacrifice the happiness - and life - of his own granddaughter. A granddaughter he never cared but now he wants her to have as a bargain for Aveoth's protection and support.
When Decker's granddaughter, Jillian Milzner, is taken by force to Aveoth, she appears quite different from the kind of woman he knew.
She amuses him with her requests. In addition, she starts putting nicknames on the Garlycans, such as Wings and Stone Garden.
The interaction between Aveoth and Jill intensifies, and he as leader, knows that the Old Guard will be against his union with a human. In addition, he must resolve internal issues in his clan.
Much confusion happens as their romance grows.
But the worst is yet to come.
Aveoth keeps a great secret that can not only make him lose his position of leader, but also put all whom he cherishes and loves in danger.
