I got hooked almost right away with this story and couldn't pull myself away. I ended up reading it all in one night. Stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it. Lots of action. Only con, everyone seemed to moan a lot.

When I purchased this book, I saw the amazing cover art and the title Rebirth, and thought I am ready for a great fantasy tale. I was wrong, wrong, wrong. Rebirth is one of the greatest Sci-fi fiction thrillers, I have ever read. It is astounding, outstanding and make the maze runner series in comparison seem like elementary school games. As we seen and gain emotional ties with the four original characters through their trials and tribulations that are barely conceivable to the mind. Aaron Hodges has written an enduring masterpiece that has set a new plateau for Sci-fi fiction thrillers. Don't pass go and collect $200 ( A monopoly game reference ) Just Get Your Copy Today And You Will Enjoy It. I Loved It!!!!

Very believable characters and story line. Chris and Liz's relationship development in such adverse circumstances is one to watch and admire. Aaron Hodges has created a world with character (both good and evil) that you become so involved you do not want to stop reading. I am now on to reading book two. I highly recommend this book. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Such a moving book. Always expect the unexpected when you are captured. Bad Chead, tough life and bad people. Just making ends meet with his mom, Chris Is ripped from that life. The things that are done to Chris and the group, unbelievable, cruel, sad!. Good story, good book!

The first book in the Praegressus Project series starts with two of the main characters, Chris and Liz, as they have been imprisoned for treason. Chris was taken with his mother - who the government said committed treason - and unfortunately in this world view all families members are guilty be association!
Chris and Liz are complete opposites, one a city boy and the other a country girl, who have to join together to survive. They are taken to be guinea pigs for Dr Halts’ experiments and human genome projects to create, eventually, stronger soldiers but for now to combat the Chead epidemic. People turn into Cheads and just go beserk killing everyone around them, possessing superhuman strength and rage.
There is no social media or internet and TV news is closely controlled by the government. So only what they want gets out and no ‘Fake News” can be spread!
They are kept in cells with other children and teenagers and made to prove how strong they are, what stamina they have, through rigorous exercise and some even worse deeds. Only the best are wanted. Brains are not exactly a requirement.
The president of the new Western Alliance wants results asap and pushes the scientists for answers. This leads to mass experimentation of different serums and in most cases failure. See what happens to the rest as you read the book. It is well worth it!
Fantastic start to the series and couldn’t wait to read the next in line. Would definitely recommend to others

First time reading this author's work and was pleasantly surprised. I really did not know what to expect from the art cover as it looked like a dark fantasy type of read and not one I delve into as a rule, however I was very wrong as it became a futuristic outlook on a possible future. It was more a post apocalyptic future with very dark and ominous results.
A post second American civil war with California, Oregon and Washington states seceding from the United States. They call the new Country WAS, Western Allied States. All is not paradise for the successful WAS as 30 years into nationhood they have to resort to very evil and draconian measures to keep the population in line. It seems the political will to keep power has turned into a Nazi like regime who have secret facilities to experiment on those they consider traitors. This involves genetic experimentation on children, involving brutality and dehumanising techniques that is reminiscent of the Nazi death camps on a much smaller scale.
There is a genetic threat that has shown up in the WAS called a Chead that once awakened kills anything or one in it's path with their strength and speed, they are very hard to kill. The WAS has a solution...they have a scientific team willing to genetically experiment on incarcerated children and young adults because their parents were deemed traitor's. The methods are despicable and losses are high but the results they achieve are mind blowing.
This story is dark but enthralling at the same time. This needs to be read if just to remind us of the horror that can be perpetrated by our own democratic governments when individuals choose to ignore the harsh lessons learned historically! Give this series a read you will not be disappointed!
I was given a copy to read by the author however this review is happily and freely given.

Really well-written sci-fi! The story line was so interesting I could hardly put the book down. I also really appreciated the thought put into the detail of the genetics discussed. (I'm a geneticist, so it's nice to see the principles represented fairly accurately!)
