I have limited knowledge of the stock market and investing. Like many people, I learned the basics in high school and college, but since I wasn’t an active investor, I quickly forgot most of what I learned. This book was a fantastic refresher for me and will be a great reference tool to look at from time to time. Like most people, I don’t have my own personal money manager or a fortune to invest – yet I still need to plan for college savings, retirement, etc.

This book gives a good step by step explanation of different investments that would be suitable for someone in my situation. It explains how to not only choose, but also how to buy and sell stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, and makes it seems simple enough to do. Since no one is earning money in savings accounts or CDs anymore, it’s important to have an alternate method to save and grow your money. Furthermore, it gives a great explanation of diversifying your investments and building a long term investment portfolio. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning the mysteries of investments.

More like" Stock Market Investing for Intermediate Level Investors". I recently inherited a modest Investment Account with a decent performing portfolio. I wanted to find a book that would explain the nuts and bolts of the stock market and investing in the stock market like I was a kindergartener. This is NOT that book. It assumes you already know a lot of the terminology, e.g. Capital Gains/Losses, knowing when to buy and sell a stock, etc. I was looking for a book that would break every little piece of the stock market down and give real life examples. I guess I should've gone with an "Idiots Guide To..." or a "Dummies..." book. Thankful I didn't spend a whole lot. Not what I would consider a good investment.

This book de-mystifies the world of investing for those of us who have maybe been scared off by terms and numbers we didn’t understand. This does not read like another “get rich quick” book at all, but rather encourages the reader to educate themselves by not only reading this text, but others as well, which are listed in the bibliography and “for future reading” sections. It’s filled with easy-to-read charts and graphs, and gives simple equations that can be used to easily calculate the number you’re looking for. In the end, Chapter 11 recaps the book with a great section entitled, “Building Your Perfect Portfolio”, which is straightforward and easy to follow. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in becoming more active with their investment strategy.

Swing and a miss.

Swedroe, Bernstein, Bogle, Larimore, Buffet. Get them. Then get online to the "Bogleheads forum", or Morningstar forum.
They are a must for personal investment finance for retirees and those working toward a healthy retirement.

Really enjoyed this well written primer on investments. I am sure it will take me some time to become a confident investor, but this book provided a thorough overview of the investment landscape and how to find your own path. Concepts are clearly explained, and the author is being explicit about which topics are covered lightly and need further reading.

Stock Market Investing for Beginners is a well-rounded introduction to the ins and outs of investing. The book shows you all the different types of investments and the returns you can expect to get from them. It teaches you how to buy low and sell high, and it discusses growth, profitability, and the importance of staying informed. The book is full of charts, graphs, and stock market speak, but thank goodness that it comes with a glossary to help explain everything! I appreciate knowing more about how I can invest my money and what to expect in terms of growth, but I think I would still prefer to trust a professional broker with the details, while I watch my money grow.

Such promise and such disappointment. Book needs to provide answers, this one leaves you with questions. More abstract ideas need concrete examples for a beginner to understand. This book is short on examples, explanation and elaboration. There are equations with a minus one in them that are never explained. Equations where denominator is 5 quarters, again either they lengthened the year to 15 months or author needs to explain and reason. And once you buy, when and how are you going to sell. There is nothing about that in book despite other reviewers mentioning that. True I paid 99 cents for this book but I was better off spending the money on angry birds or something.
Having said all that, if you know absolutely nothing about the markets, then skim through for some introductory terms and definitions in case you have not heard of google search or investopedia or motley fool etc... on a side note, the author should not mention peter lynch, a guy who actually knows about investing. This author should not be allowed on the same planet where lynch lives.

I have had a long desire for stocks and investments, and I find this book very helpful; it helps me understand more about how I can start investing, and it narrows down the different types of investments.

I recommend Complete the Art of Investing to further your research/learning. After exhaustive stock simulations and reading hundreds of books on investing, I find out most teachings do not work in today’s stock market. That is why I wrote this book and I also included those strategies that work.

The Kindle version has 890 pages (6*9), about the size of 3 investing books or about one cent per page. Each page has at least one investing idea. It covers most topics in investing from simple market timing (that has been proven in the last two market plunges), searching and evaluating profitable stocks to many investing strategies.

I have the best performance for recommending 10 or more stocks in a popular investing site. All the innovative ideas behind this article are included in this book. Hard copy version is also available.

I enjoyed the book. Good refresher for those with more experience. Good starter book for those just beginning to consider investing. Also a good book for anyone who has not yet begun to think about retirement saving.
