You have got to love Tubby! Funny and loveable. He helps a woman he hardly knows find her son for two pralines as a retainer. His idea of justice doesn't always fit the letter of the law, but I'm on his side!

This Kindle freebie was a delight. To begin with, it was attractively formatted and almost entirely free of mechanical errors (I spotted just a couple of obvious typos). But Dunbar's comfortable style goes beyond mere grammatical competence. The plot was carefully woven, the characters well drawn and interesting, and the descriptions vivid. I enjoyed this very much.

I have become very fond of lawyer Tubby Dubonnet, and I enjoy Tony Dunbar's stories. The writing is wry and humorous, the dialogue is brisk and witty, and the characters are memorable. Definitely worth it.

The Tubby tales are laced with humor, lawyer speak and a colorful characters, Throw in a some bad guys and a good measure of N'Orleans culture just for good measure and you have a pager turner right to the end.

This is the second Tubby Dubonnet book I have read and I have enjoyed both immensely. The New Orleans locale and the principal character fit well. Tubby is a well developed character with a heart and flaws.

Slightly damaged Tubby Dubonnet continues his daily grind of defending some strange characters in New Orleans. He's a devoted father rarely saying "no" when any one of his daughters asks for help. This time both he and his daughter are put in harms way.

This is a fairly good book. It kept me relatively interested and turning the pages, however, I wouldn't call it a "page turner". I was glad that the main character turned out to be a good guy.

Having said that, I would read another of this author's books before I pooh poohed any others.

Slow to start. Initially a murder occurs and then a barbeque with a shooting but with no seeming connection. Finally the story starts to weave itself together and connections are made. At the center of the story is an attorney who appears to be most interested in billable hours. He ends up helping a stranger and then his daughter with an environmental investigation that has far reaching implications for the businesses and the citizens of his town.

Tubby Dubonnet is an interesting fellow, a lawyer who may occasionally slide over the border when it comes to the letter of the law. He's loyal to a diverse group of friends, and takes care of his family. That he's intelligent and works a unique solution to this mystery set in New Orleans, shows good plotting by Tubby's creator.Noir style, yet humorous.

with a runyonesque cast of characters and often seedy side of New Orleans this story has atmosphere. The story bounces along seemingly random events that gradually start to fit into the jig saw puzzle . the book isn't funny as promised, but it has a whimsical feel. Totally believable? No. But entertaining.

I have read several books in this series. While they are not the greatest mystery books ever written, they were worth my time to read it. I liked it well enough to read the remainder of the books in this series. I did not see much humor in the story and was disappointed in that discovery since it was touted to be funny.

This is my second Tubby Dubbonnet mystery and it has just the right mix of that sense of the Big Easy in local place and the crime and corruption suspected of simmering just below the surface of a steamy city. I enjoy the food mentiones and the dynamic that Tubby faces and survives in without comproming on the tension that has to exist in such situations.
Yea Tubby!

The lawyer, Tubby, was a likable character but the story was slow moving. Being an avid reader, especially of mysteries, I usually stay with a book until finished. Occasionally, as with this novel, I will find myself losing interest, putting it down, and taking a break before picking it up again. I don't know exactly what was wrong - the puzzle was there, the characters okay. I might try another of Dunbar's books in the future if the circumstances are right; but, I won't be searching for them.

Reading Tony Dunbar's novels, you understand why New Orleans is called the Big Easy. I love the hometown feel he gives to the city, and the implications that tourist are welcome but tolerated. Ya got to love Tubby Dubonnet. His mixture of compassionate , yet pay up, attitude leaves me laughing every time.

Tony weaves an intricate tale involving murder, pollution and a criminal organization. The main character Tubby Dubonnet, a lawyer, has to piece together a trail of evidence that would clear up the mysteries. The characters are well developed and the story is captivating. It is well worth your time.

A fast paced mystery replete with humour. Bold as brass lawyer solves a murder and uses this knowledge to make a deal with the devil to the benefit of an environmental group, a dead friends wife and several other folks.

I enjoyed reading this novel, including some references to local 'color' like street names and area descriptions. As someone who has only been in NOLA once, briefly, over 40 years ago, it was fun to read about the surroundings.

Was reading a second Tony Dunbar novel about Tubby, Raisin and Cherrylynn and Now I must find another, and probably another after that. Funny and touching as well as intriguing, these characters and what they stand for are addicting. Go ahead, try to read just one! Thank you, Mr. Dunbar.

Th oily s author never disappoints me. In the beginning when someone on the dock is murdered, I mistakenly thought it was a Tubby mystery I had read before. A few pages later, I discovered it was even better than the one I had thought of.

What a great story and subplots! Beautifully descriptive and nicely written; this writer throws out the bait a reels you in before you know it, you are caught. Interesting characters and a Louisiana look through the window keep the pages turning and looking for the next book!

Tubby's a charm, New Orleans is portrayed so nicely--flaws and all. There's usually no hard-boiled mystery, but I've read just about every Tubby Dubonnet book--and I'll read each one that comes out. Tony Dunbar has a nice style and draws people and places well. Kudos.

Tubby made me have a much higher opinion of attorneys. He has heart and fights for what he believes. This book had little plots that were adventurous and unexpected, but the author brought it all together in the end. I'm ready for another Tubby Dubonnet story.

Tubby is a great character, complex and conflicted. A good guy who doesn't know it. The plot is as twisted as one might expect from New Orleans. I'm not sure I'd say the story was what I would call humorous but an enjoyable and entertaining read nonetheless.

Another enjoyable, quick read from the author. Tony Dunbar does a very nice job with the New Orleans setting for this series about a local lawyer who seems to always have a number of things on his plate.

Interesting book with many moving parts!
The characters were interesting, there are many, so it takes at least 1/3 of the book to figure them all out. The author nicely ties all the events of the complex plot in the second 2/3 of the book. Interesting read.

This is one of those stay awake all night reads. I wanted to quit but kept thinking "Just one more chapter." I love Tubby as well as his supporting cast. I highly recommend CITY OF BEADS, as well as all the Tubby Dubonnet Series.

A thoughtful murder mystery in a lively, colorfully populated microcosm filled with good food, lovely ladies, scoundrels and people just trying to do the right thing. Looking forward to #3 in the series.
