Honestly the next volume can not come out soon enough. A typical novel takes me 2 weeks to read at work on breaks and downtime. I finished Eden's Gate Vol1 in 2 days. I took it everywhere. A fun read. Its reminds me of playing Skyrim, and of .Hack//. My favorite Anime {Similar to the new day SOA}

I love the characters, the end was a bit shocking but that was to be expected. I'm used to reading things by Brandon Sanderson so the length of both books seemed short but I loved each page. I was sucked in and can't wait to read the subsequent books.

I would say that aside from the main chars helplessness, I think this book clearly deserves some credit, as not everything goes perfectly constantly as it seems it does for mAny protagonists in this genre
Life Reset: A LitRPG Novel (New Era Online Book 1) :: AlterWorld: Play to Live. A LitRPG Series (Book 1) :: Downfall And Rise (Challenger's Call Book 1) :: Patch 17: Epic LitRPG (Realm of Arkon, Book 1) :: Book 1 - An Apocalyptic LitRPG - The System Apocalypse

The story follows a pretty good, real life possible, premise for a lit-rpg. The story works is well done and makes you want to see how the hero survives and progresses. I also like that he makes mistakes, yet has a chance to write those wrongs too. I sort of hope the town's mage gets his comeuppance at some point though. He's a bit of a jerk.

This book was an enjoyable read overall. It pretty much nails the genre. The other "4 star" reviews cover any negatives I have already.
I did really like it, so my rating is accurate. It's just not great. Definitely worth the read, though.
I couldn't write something like this, so the typos and inconsistencies aren't the worse thing in the world. But, I'd gladly beta-read any future work.

The hook grabs you right at the beginning and pulls you into an interesting VR world. The fight scenes were well-crafted and I enjoyed all the world building and hints at the next book.
I do feel the main character forgot why he was there and didn't stay driven enough for his initial goal, but overall I enjoyed the story and will pick up the sequel when it's released.

But really good. Looking forward to book two, so write faster please. This is one of those books that you really wish was a lot longer. The world and people just feel real.
I recommend you grab a copy and check it out for yourself.

Edens Gate provides a compelling story and character growth. The reason for losing a star is that the author repeatedly uses the wrong word to describe things. In particular the last portion of the book features a lot of webs that are supposedly "etched" on the walls and ceiling, but are actually real webs that are sticking to the surfaces and not carved into the stone using acid. This is jarring enough to me that Edens Gate loses a star.

Having the main character who has his flaws makes this a great read. Gunnar makes REAL choices that must of us would really make. Just the right mix of action and fill.
Brody takes the time to explain common gamer terms, for the non gamers, without taking away from the narrative of the story itself.
If you like Log Horizon or SAO, you would like this book.

An amazing book from start to finish. The character getting stuck in a game like sao, log horizon, and overlord is amazing. The character makes good and bad choices along the way like all of us do weather u want to Amit it or not. The story stays building up and theres not to many if any dull or down time in the story. It makes you feel like your there with gunnar. I can't wait for book 2 and the author replies back to you at a very reasonable time which as awesome.

The story is enjoyable and is very easy reading. If you're a fan of Sword Art Online or .Hack, you'll like this book. Similar premise with key differences...or the more adult version of SAO. I finished the book in a little over a day. The only thing that bothers me are the typos and grammatical errors. Hey Mr. Brody, want a proof reader for your next book? I'll do it for free. :)

The story line is pretty close to the other books in the same class of writing. I found it a good reading book except for the grammar errors, missing words and the few wrong word in the sentence. A good third reading for proof spelling editing or an editor would have made reading this story better.

Well written if a bit predictable set in a relatively standard fantasy game world with a bit flat characters. I like the fact that there is an overarching plot within the book and no cliffhanger. The premise itself is a bit far-fetched, but I can ignore that for the sake of the story. I am not an overly big fan of the game mechanics, purely skill based, which takes away an important aspect of gaming (planning ahead) and for me also feels a bit arbitrary from a storytellings perspective (need skill X, just add it). Admittedly the game is not designed to draw in players and keep them in in the traditional sense of the word, but as a gamer I would be a bit hesitent to play the game if I heard that my friends would start all over the world with no means of communication and no information on game mechanics.
All in all, reading the books was entertaining, and you could do much worse, but it is not the first book I would recommend if you want to start in litRPG genre.

In general I enjoyed the story's premise, though it's doubtful that there are many like the CEO Doctor who would believe in something so wholeheartedly as to not give millions a life choice.
The setup was not completely believable -- not enough MC backstory to convincingly develop a 21 year old complete loner since his early high school days. The "why" question wasn't answered.
Initially, the MC slips into talking and acting like a 12 year old - difficult to believe even of a loner 21 year old.
Additionally, probably a bit too much action as compared with story development. The plot was fairly straight forward - there should have been considerably more foreshadowing of future developments.
Game mechanics: It appears that you're alternating health, mana, and stamina by level. Better that they all increase every level, or magic users, etc will turn into one shot wonders.
You should also take the players "immortality" into account. If the level-up curve doesn't drastically steepen, you'll have 5 million people with levels in the thousands in 50 years. Likewise with skills - plan for the immortals.
An interesting first book though a bit too straightforward and predictable. The MC should grow in maturity, forethought, and levels in follow on books -- maybe he'll also stop getting stabbed in the back (with more awareness)...
