This is in inimitable Discworld, and in it, the disreputable guards of the City Watch, my favourite of Pratchett's characters. Truly, this is one of the greatest works of fiction ever written, riddled with tongue in cheek humour for those of us who enjoy fantasy novels and life in general.

Terry Pratchet takes you places you've never been before, and his down to earth humor will leave you grinning for days. No matter when or where you meet his characters in Disc World they are enhanced and more dynamic than before. A must read for any fan of Disc World. Ten thumbs up, keep up the good work!

am reading terry pratchett discworld books in order they were written... he is brilliant and funny. It gives insight into what social concerns were in the fore at the time, too. yep, social studies, too :)

initialized. like all the Discworld novels, screamingly funny and bitingly true. Terry Pratchett is unique in my reading experience and I'll sure miss him when he's gone. ah well... I'll be 74 next month. perhaps he'll outlast me.

I love all the discworld books and realized this one was missing from my collection, very happy to have it now and will always recommend the Night Watch series of the Discworld books to anyone who likes fantasy.

Dragons and dwarfs are typically not my idea of good reading, but Mr. Pratchett has won me over. I've read this and all the Sam Vimes/Night watch books. Guards Guards gives us a peek at how Sam and the crew got together. Good solid read, enjoyable and just thought provoking enough to uh...you know...make you think.

Fair warning, this is an abridged version.Much of Pratchett's funny meanderings are not included and in this one a few details that add to the story. I would not use this or other similar recordings as a first time experience of Discworld. Tony Robinson (Baldrick from the Black Adder BBC series) does wonderful voices. Unfortunately, it seems like these recordings were never normalized so you have to turn up the volume for his quiet voices and then get blasted by his louder or more projected voices. This aspect is a technical one, not Pratchett's or Robinson's fault but it is why I give this less than the Five Stars.

Very funny. It'd make a great movie. The characters are terrific and vivid, which makes up for a climax that could have been expanded upon a little more. Seems like the writer hurried up the ending. But otherwise, a quick and enjoyable read with a great sense of humor.

A complete and utter joy from start to finish. Even though the tone is fairly light, the prose and the characters are richer than I expected. The book is a very funny satire of our world as well as being a witty critique of the tropes of fantasy novels. This was my first Pratchett, and will not be my last.

If you haven't delved into this wonderful world, created by Mr Pratchett then please do, his characters are wonderful, his insight into human - or dwarf, or troll - nature is delectable and his story telling is absorbing.

Guards! Guards! is a wonderful introduction to Discworld. The opening scene reminded me of a Monty Python skit and had me practically rolling on the floor. The references to today's world and politics is refreshing while maintaining that other-worldly quality. A great, fun read

Nigel Planer has recorded a wonderfully zany audio version of Guards! Guards! His vocal depictions of characters are just as you would imagine them. It is like having "Monty Python" do the book. Both print and audio versions are a "must" for Discworld fans.

I love this book- the City Watch are my favorites of Pratchett's Discworld. Witty, ridiculous, and lovable- they and their adventures are a great way to spend a rainy evening. Or any other kind of evening. Or time of day. I can't get enough of them.

The book arrived in good time and in good condition. I couldn't ask for anything more.

A great satirical commentary on Law enforcement and government that leaves you feeling hopeful and inspired....and it has dragons in it! The places he goes with that part of the plot are completely unique. Bravo!

Fantastic book. One of the best Discworld books, but they are all great, highly recommended. This one is where we see the introduction of Sam Vimes, one of the most interesting recurring characters in the Discworld.

A funny, endearing Pratchett classic. The Watch are my favorite characters and story lines in Discworld, and this is my second favorite, following closely behind Nightwatch, which I think is the best book in the series.
