Werebear Shifter Romance (Takhini Shifters Book 1)

Jim and Damon were in Las Vegas getting ready for their annual game for the Lady Luck Copper Coin. They would relax for four days. Jim looks across the room and sees an interesting person. He goes over to introduce himself. She sees him coming and goes the other direction. He gets to play a round of chase which is a bear's fun.
She sits at a slot machine and has the luck to win the grand jackpot of $100,000. She gets stuck in a croud with a lot of flashing lights, lots of noise, then strong arms have her. Jim picks her up and takes her away to a shifter only part of the hotel. She comes out of her shell, when he continues to pet her and talk with her. She has many things to do over the next few days, her "bucket list". He said he would help her.
What fun things are on her list? What does Damon do? Who does Lillie fall for? For these answers you will just have to be a page turner. I volunteered to review this ARC book using entirely my own opinion.

Copper King is an enjoyable shifter novella about two bears, Jim and Lilly, and their sidekick wolf friend, Damon. The blurb pretty much tells the story. I'm not sure where this fits in with the series. if it's the first story I would have liked a lot more information about the world it's set in. It appears that shifters may be known about, if not, there's a lot of them.

There isn't much I have to say, it was a short, enjoyable read which doesn't add anything new to the shifter genre. I did think it was a nice touch that the author mentioned bears were basically loners and they're dying out because of that and the descriptions of Lilly's bear and how she just wants to sleep because it's hibernation time. Her bear is written as if it's a separate entity.

I would have liked more chemistry and heat between Jim and Lilly. I just wasn't feeling by the end that Lilly would make the decision she did at the end based on her time to date with Jim (though she was hardly enthusiastic about the turn her life was supposed to take).

This time, Jim is determined not to let anything distract him from winning, especially women.
Black bear shifter Lillie Ruadh is on a quest to complete her bucket list before her life-changing move on Friday. Among the items is a stop and fling in Las Vegas. Having a few days to enjoy himself before Friday, Jim is more than happy to help Lillie out. However, there is more to Lady Luck then being a copper penny.
I really enjoyed Copper King. The story was endearing and entertaining throughout. The characters are likeable and fun. I enjoyed Jim’s and Damon’s friendship. Being different types of shifters is uncommon, making their relationship more special. Lillie being shy and mysterious brings an intrigue into the story.
The plot is engaging and carefully thought out. This made the book very hard to put down. There was so many fun scenes of playfulness and a charming quality to their quick bond that forms. I did feel however, that the love connection wasn't as strong as I expected it to be. It felt like they meet,have delicious sex, and then fall in love, too quick for my taste, however I did feel charmed by the style of the story and it definitely won me over by the very end. saw the chemestry right off the bat. usually i go for wolf shifters but I enjoyed the bear shifter one also I am very excited to read more from this author i really enjoyed this read and looking forward to others ,

Quickie Anyone??

I normally am not a fan of novellas, I prefer longer reads with the time to develop and become invested in the characters and their world however if it’s fast paced, well written and hot then I’ll fit a quickie in!

For those who don’t know, “quickie” is the term given to a sexual romp that is exactly that – quick. It is to the point, exciting and usually quite intense. And it’s often more animalistic and lust-driven than regular ‘romantic’ sex.

‘Copper King’ is shifters so the animalistic and lust driven is pretty much a given but as it’s also a Vivian Arend you know it will be fast, furious, hot as f*ck and leave you satiated and happy……

Ms Arend delivers as usual with the story of Jim and Lillie, they are just perfect together from the very first meeting and even though it’s a novella the author manages to tell a sweet, romantic story with a sensual erotic touch that will satisfy every parawhore out there with a soft spot for a good shifter story. Jim is a grizzly bear so ** swoon ** he’s a large alpha shifter more than capable of sweeping a shy black bear off her feet and into his bed. Keeping her there may not be as easy! But an interesting twist made for a satisfying and surprising ending.

Damon (Jim’s BF) was fabulous comic relief, this combined with a flowing story, some hot steamy scenes and a couple you can’t help but love and ‘Copper King’ was a winner for me.

The first novella in the Takhini Shifters series is a charming and fun paranormal romance. Lillie wants one last hurrah before she gives in to tradition. Jim is looking to regain control of pretty copper coin and he’s not going to let any bit of eye candy distract from his goal. However, Lady Luck has some twists of fate in store for them both…

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers well entertained with some suspense, humor, charm, romance in Sin City. The author brings the wonderful romance to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination some intriguing mystery to arouse the curiosity and funny dialogue that brings causes quite a few chuckles. The strong and enchanting characters are easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The chemistry between Jim and Lillie is hot enough to singe the reader all on its own and the sex scenes are hot enough to burn the casino down, and the relationship comes to a complete surprise to these charming bears. The reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as the couple set out to have a good time and Lilly touches the heart with her shy but courageous demeanor and the giant growly bear sets hearts to pounding.

The author has created a fascinating shifter world that intrigues and entertains with surprising twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes and this story takes things a little farther with fates funny outlook on life and Lady Luck’s surprising twists that brings this couple to their happily ever after. While a little on the short side, I really enjoyed this charming shifter romance from beginning to end. I have not read any of the Takhini Wolves books and while this one is connected to that series, it is not necessary, however I am sure if you are like me you will find yourself doing so.

Jim is a bear shifter who's life is work and women. While he is on a vacation of sorts in Vegas with his best friend Damon who is a wolf shifter, he meets Lillie who is another bear shifter. Lillie is in Vegas for one last fling. She knows her destiny and she is fine with it, but she is determined to have some fun first. Once Jim see's Lillie, he doesn't want her out of his sight which he feels is odd but he will worry about that later. He has a race against Damon in a couple days to focus on, he doesn't need a woman distracting him.

He knows that Lillie is keeping something from him. He doesn't know what but he's not too worried about it. Once he realizes he has feelings for her it may be too late as the agency he hired to find him a bride called and mentioned that they found someone for him.

My Opinion: I loved this book and I loved Jim and Lillie together. This is the first book that I have read from this author and I really enjoyed it. I will definitely read more from this author. This book had a great twist at the end. I had a feeling that it was headed in that direction but it was still great. I always love when there is a HEA and when with a twist of fate you can be with the one you thought you couldn't be with. My friend has been talking to me about this author for a while as she loves her books. I'm glad I finally read one! I would definitely recommend reading.

Copper King is the first novella in the new Takhini Shifters series by Vivian Arend, it's currently only available in the Alpha's After Dark anthology but will be available to buy separately on the 1st of May. These stories will all be set in the same world as Vivian Arend's Granite Lake and Takhini Wolves series and there may be a slight crossover of characters across all of the series but the stories are all designed to stand alone so you can pick this up even if you're new to the world. Copper King fits into the time line just before the first Takhini Wolves book, Black Gold, the two main characters did make an appearance in Diamond Dust where they are an established couple but this is the story of how they first met so really is a great introduction to them both.

Lillie is looking for some fun in her last few days of freedom before she settles into the life her family has chosen for her. She doesn't have long and Vegas isn't her ideal destination since she is scared of crowds but it was the best option available to her and she's going to make the most of it by having a final fling - if she can find the right man that is. Jim is in Vegas with his friend Damon for their annual contest to decide who gets to keep the lucky coin they bought together as teenagers. It's been a while since Jim won and so this year he's more determined than ever and he's not going to let anyone distract him from the contest. Not even the beautiful bear shifter who has captured his attention more than any other woman in years. He might find Lillie's scent irresistible but he has more important things to deal with - unless Damon gets his way and manages to play matchmaker that is.

I've been a fan of Vivian Arend's shifter stories ever since I first discovered the Granite Lake Wolves books back in 2010 so of course I couldn't wait to start reading Copper King. She is brilliant at writing sweet romances that are full of humour and wonderful chemistry and I wasn't disappointed with her latest novella. It made a really nice change to read about a different kind of shapeshifter, I read so many books about werewolves or big cat shifters but I don't think I've read one about bears before. Don't get me wrong I love my wolves and jaguars but I had fun learning about the bears and how their instincts differ to those of the other shifters.

Jim and Lillie are both great characters and they were really well suited to each other. Lillie is quite shy and very nervous around lots of people which brings out all of Jim's protective instincts. More than anything they have fab chemistry though and I enjoyed seeing them get to know each other. The twist about how Lillie ended up in Vegas in the first place was very amusing and I enjoyed the case of mistaken identities that followed. Don't worry if you're new to Vivian Arend's world because you can easily pick up Copper King even if you've not read any of her previous stories. However, if you like this one then I'd highly recommend the rest of the Granite Lake and Tahkini Wolves series because they all have the same humour and some fantastic characters that I'm sure you'll love as much as I do.

This is my first Vivian Arend novella, but it will definitely not be my last! This is the first installment in the Takhini Shifters series, which I gather is a spin-off of the Takhini Wolves series (adding to booklist as I write!)Ms. Arend is skilled at balancing the aspects of character development, story and passion; difficult to do in novella format. I found her characters believable and quite charming. The "shifting" aspect adds not only to the storyline but to the heat generated by the lead couple. Their encounters are passionate and serve to move the story along. The pacing is fast, the sex is hot, the happily ever after is exactly right. Ms. Arend writes with humor and sensuality.

I had a false start with this one after receiving a demo copy from NetGalley so I was only able to give what I read three stars. I'm so happy I purchased a copy and was able to read the complete story. I adored this little novella. It was short but very sweet and very complete. The character's motives were clearly laid out and their motives were genuine and pure. I love the fact that Lillie and Jim's declarations about one another were so honest. It's funny how they came upon the discovery of who they were to one another but a truly sweet encounter with Lillie trying to protect Jim...from himself *LOL*. Arend does a wonderful job with the start of the Takhini Shifters and continuation of the Granite Lake Wolves shifter series. I look forward to seeing what she does with Damon.

This is a novella, available alone and in the Alphas After Dark anthology. Jim and Lillie meet in Vegas and decide to have a fling. Both are bear shifters, and they don't talk much about themselves, pasts, etc. There is a bit of mystery, especially surrounding Lillie. It all works out happy as can be in the end. And that is it. Yep. The writing is good, and it is a happy feel good story for an afternoon with some laughing and sexy moments. A good read.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It was such fun to read. Lillie is such a happy, fun person and her bucket list was full of fun too. Jim was more serious but he also knows how to have fun. Damon is such a good friend and I'm looking forward to his story. There is a surprise but it takes quite a ways into the book before you figure it out. Just a great read.

What a wonderful short story. This story revolves around a bear shifter Lillie who was on her way to a big secret she is carrying.
She stops in Vegas where she wanted to go to cross it off her bucket list. Jim a bear shifter and his friend Damon were playing to get ready for their annual ride to get possession of the copper coin that they named Lady Luck.
Meanwhile Jim spots Lillie she spots him and takes off.
She runs and then decides to play a couple of slot machines so he couldn't find her but, little does she know she hits the jackpot.
People were coming up to her poor Lillie couldn't stand to be around of a lot of people and starts to panic until a strong arm whisks her out of the crowd and took care of her winnings.
He is takes her up to his suite...to read more you will have to buy the book.

This book keeps you pulled in and trying to figure out the mystery of who Lillie is and what she is running from. It will leave you ready to double click to order the next book after their story in the series.
