Nina lives in a society in which families are limited to two children. Third children are hidden, and, if found, arrested and often tortured and killed. Nina was betrayed by Jason and taken from her girl's school and imprisoned. Used to having been pampered by her aunts and grandmother, and then having become accustomed to a structured life in the girl's school, Nina could scarcely believe that her cell and her chains were real, but they were!

Third in the series of the Shadow Children, this book is about Nina, a girl that Lee had met in book two. Although Haddix write very well, I did not like this story as much as the first two. Still, it is a story worth telling. And the author makes her futuristic world very real, again, in this third book.

From imprisoned to tested
Among the betrayed by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Summery:
Among the betrayed is about a girl named Nina she was in the book among the imposters for a little while but then she was put in prison for them thinking that Jason Nina's good friend betrayed her so now Nina's in a cell now with three other kids that she has to get information out of them to get out of prison but Nina can't get any information out of them but Nina doesn’t know something they know?
Claim:
I give this book 4 and a half out of 5 stars because I thought this book had a lot of interesting characters, a lot of adventure, and it was full of shocking moments. I gave this book 4 and a half out of 5 stars because it had a big plot but it was kind of a short story line is what I think.
Reason 1:
The first reason I liked this book so much was because of how much interesting characters it had like Percy and Matthias and Alia who knew how to make a fake Id and Alia again who knew ow to use a knife on a camera so it would look like a mouse broke it.
Reason 2:
I think this book had lots of adventure ln it like when Nina, Percy, Matthias, and Alia were escaping the population police headquarters also prison area to go find a safe place to escape to. And when and when Nina was caught swimming in the water while two guards watched her because she wasn’t allowed in there until Alia came with in with two fake Ids to show to the guards saving Nina from getting caught.
Reason 3:
My final reason why I like this book so much is because of all the shocking moments in the book like when I found out that the hating man was Mr. Talbot are when I found out the three kids that Nina helped escape they were testing her to see if she would turn them in.
Final thought:
My final thought for this book is that I recommend reading the book If you haven't are reading the first book and second book first if you haven't because this is the third book in the series if you enjoyed this review of among the betrayed I hope it will want you to read it.

Another homeschooling mom suggested this book to my 12 y.o. child. I decided to read it and I am glad I did. As a Mom trying to protect my children (I think nowadays children are exposed too early to violence, sex and immorality), I don't think this book is appropriate for my daughter. The book is categorized for 4th grade level, but I don't agree that the content is appropriate for that age. There's a lot of violence, and the conditions the children live in are deplorable and miserable. It reminded me of the homeless glue addicted children that roam the streets of Western Europe. Really hopeless. In beginning of the book, at times, the narration was really scary. It also depicts the "romance" of a 13 y.o. girl with an older boy (the book doesn't state his actual age. He could be underage too.) Scenes contain kissing, "assumed" non-sexual touching, and dreamlike wishful thoughts of the boy.

The book does end on a "positive hopeful" note, in spite of all the lying and deceiving situations. However there's no clear concept of what's right or wrong, which is fine for the plot of the book (I have no idea if the author is a Christian. This is NOT Christian literature for sure). But again I don't think it's appropriate for my daughter to read. Maybe when she's 16 or 17 y.o. The subject matter and the plot were really interesting and relevant, just not appropriate for my child YET.

If you would like to find out what the book is about, please read the other reviews.

"Among the Betrayed" is the third novel in Haddix's Shadow Children series about a future where families are forbidden to have more than two children. Unlike the first two books in the series, the Lee Grant/Luke Garner character is not the main character. This time around, Haddix takes the perspective of Nina Idi (real name Elodie), a third child who has lived the majority of her life with her grandmother and three elderly aunts before being sent to the Harlow School for Girls where her darkest nightmares await her.

The novel begins with Nina finding herself under arrest by the Population Police for having taken part in a plot to betray her country or so they tell her. Nina fears for her life so when she is offered the opportunity to live she jumps at the chance. Her task is to make three other shadow children confess their background information without them suspecting she is doing so. However, Nina finds the task much harder to carry out than expected, and when a chance to escape comes along, Nina hopes that she can trust the three other shadow children she shares a cell with. But nothing is as it seems in Nina's newfound world and she is unprepared for the challenges of surviving in the outside world, especially with the Population Police looking for her.

"Among the Betrayed" is slightly darker than the previous two novels in the series, especially at the beginning of the book where Nina is imprisoned and tortured. This may make the book more suitable for older readers than younger ones. Nina also isn't as likable a character as Lee Grant/Luke Garner, but readers will be curious to learn the backgrounds of the three mysterious shadow children Nina meets in jail. As usual, this Shadow Children novel is a fast-paced read that is difficult to put down and it offers readers some unique surprises.

Nina is among the many shadow children in her school. She has done nothing wrong in her life, except for being illegal. One day, she woke up in a prison cell, handcuffed to the ground. She finds out that her beloved, Jason, has now betrayed her. Later on she meets a new character who she has called "The Hating Man". He tells her that she has to help him with something or she will soon be killed. Her task is to go into another cell with three other shadow children. She has to find out info about them and see if the truly are shadow children. Later on, she starts talking to them and they become kind of close. But, they won't tell her anything because they think they are being watched by hidden cameras. Which they weren't. "The Hating Man" was secretly feeding her humungous thanks giving meals, bribing her to try harder. She does'nt have that kind of cold heart, how evil. If he were to find out they were shadow children, he would kill them in an instant. One day while she was talking to him, a gaurd burst through the door. He was holding his neck, the gaurd had been poisoned. "The Hating Man" wasnt paying attention to her. Oddly enough, the keys were sitting right there on the table. She used this opportunity to escape, she grabbed the keys and ran. She opened up the cell and got the three kids. They all escaped together. No one even came looking for them. She told them about the school that she thought was safe, so they could temporarly live there. The younger kids actually knew how to get there. Once they got there, they finally settled in. She discovered a planted garden behind the school. They stole fruits and vegtables during the night. One night, Nina went to pick some more and some one pounced on her. It was Lee. She was dragged off to Mr. Hendricks house not too far away. After talking to him, she saw something. It was "The Hating Man". He was actually Jen Talbot's dad under disguise. The whole jail thing and escape was planned for the safety of them. She had been set up just to see if she could be trusted. Later on she found out everything and was glad she was safe. Well, for now. She later actually agreed to help them. Had Nina just agreed to help fight the population police? Yes, she had. The settings were in the jail building, outside of the Hendricks School, and inside Mr. Hendrick's home. This book was fantastic, and I would definitly recomend this book to anybody that I know!

Red Herrings abound in this addition to the "Shadow Children" series. While the plot revolves around one's oportunity to betray, the plot goes in un expected directions. While this makes an exciting read, it left holes in the plot.

This is the first book in the series which does not center around the Luke/Lee Grant character. Some readers may be confused by his absence if they go into the book without reading a preview. Instead the centers around Nina, who was tied to the turncoat Jim from the second book. Nina is asked to prove her loyalty by tricking other shadow children into confessing. Being a shadow child herself, this mission presents a moral conflict.

As the plot carries beyond the initial description, one is struck by the level of naivity in Nina. With all of the opportunities presented to her, it is hard to believe that she did not suspect alternative motives in the population police. Even for a young adult book, the bar for suspending disbelief is set low.

In the scope of this on-going plot, readers should read the first two books in the series to better appreciate this one. After reading the first three books, I am looking forward to reading other books in the series.

Among the Betrayed

This book is really awesome because it is misleading. Its so misleading because you can't tell which character is good or bad. The main characters are Nina, Alia, Percy, and Matthias. They are all illegal third children. This book takes place in the future. There was a famine so the dictator created a law so families could only legally have two kids each. All children born after the second were hunted down and killed by the population police. This is the third book in the series.

Some of my dislikes of this book were that the first and second books characters were not mentioned very much throughout the book. Also the book was too short. I think that Margaret Peterson Haddix could have made the book longer.

Some things that I liked were how the book made me think what if the government had that much power over the country. I also like how the author deceived me and made me think some of the good guys were bad.

People who might like this book are people who like adventure books because this book is mainly about four kids trying to find a place and how they escaped form jail. Another group of people that would like this book are the people who like books with kids as the main characters. The illegal children are all between the ages of fourteen and one. Also people who like futuristic books may like this one because this book takes place in the future.

Haddix switches focus in AMONG THE BETRAYED (Shadow Children #3) from Luke who we followed through the first to books to Nina Idi. Continuing the story from where things were left in book #2, Jason and Nina have been arrested as traitors and accomplices, conspiring to falsely turn over shadow children to the Population Police.

The danger is much more present and direct in this third installment as Nina struggles for survival in Prison. Hungry, terrified and feeling betrayed by all her friends including the boy she thought loved her, Nina isn't quite sure she can resist when the interrogator gives her an opportunity to save her own life. Can she betray other third children; condemn them to certain death even if it means her own survival?

This ongoing plot continues in the same vein as the first two books; fast paced, close calls, betrayal and plenty of white knuckle moments. Haddix has so far consistently done a great job keeping the series fresh and thrilling and I am anxious to dive right into what happens next.

When we last read about Luke Garner, he remains at the Hendricks School for hidden children. In this story, Nina and Jason were arrested and taken away. This book mostly focuses in on Nina's point of view during her incarceration with three other children.

This book somehow manages skillfully to come back to it's original story about shadow children and not just focued on Luke Garner. The story here about Nina moves slower than normal. So far, I have had the writing to be fast paced and excitement. With the introduction of Nina, we see the world from a girl's prospective which is an adequate description.

Anyway, Haddix manages to keep the reader glued into learning more about this world where third children are banned and a Population Police is in charge to find and exterminate them. This book had some unrealistic moments but manages to pull it altogether to make me believe in it.

I think this series would make compelling television or film series as well.

The book Among the Betrayed was a really good book about a thirteen year old girl named Nina, she is a third child. In the place she lives at third children are not allowed, and if they are born the population police will come and take them. One day while she was at school the population police did come and take her. They brought her to a dark, cold cell. Nina soon finds out they don't know that she really is a third child, but they arrested her because the population police say Nina and her boyfriend tricked them into arresting children that really were not third children just so her and her boyfriend could get a reward. The Population Police then make her a deal. She could save herself from getting executed and help them into tricking three children into admitting that they are third children or she could die. Will Nina choose her life or the kids?

I REALLY liked this book a lot. I would not stop reading it because I always wanted to find out the decisions she makes. A reason I liked this book was because there was always action. All the time the characters were doing something to keep you reading. Also this book was a lot about life or death situations. I like those kinds of books. There was nothing wrong with this book.

The people who would like this book are the people that like books about life or death situations. That is what the whole book was practically based on. Also the people that have read the other books to this series would like this one. This one is a lot like those. If you have read other books from Margarett Peterson Haddix, you should like this one. I know I did!!

So we're three books into Haddix's Shadow Children series. The first book ended with Luke leaving the world he's grown accustomed to. The second book ended with Luke finally accepting the new world he's been thrust into. With the passing of each book we've been left to wonder, 'What's next for Luke?' We are not given those answers quite yet in book three, Among the Betrayed, and that might annoy some series fans (it surely did my 5th grade class at first) who've grown fond of Luke. But give Nina Idi some time. I promise she'll grow on you.

Haddix decided to take a step away from Luke Garner and show us how the Population Law is affecting another third child, Nina Idi. Nina has been captured by the Population Police and been given an ultimatum: either help them by deceiving a group of third children she's just met, or be executed. After befriending the three third children she's supposed to betray, she realizes that the choice is not as easy as she'd like it to be.

My biggest gripe with the first two books is how slowly they begin. A lot of time is spent describing the world through Luke's very sheltered eyes. To make Luke's transformation seem realistic, this has to be done but it can cause many yawns while reading. Obviously, I was scared when I was introduced to Nina, imagining another one-third of a book being wasted while we were getting to know another sheltered third child. But that's not the case. Not the case at all.

Haddix has learned from her mistakes. She makes the transition from Luke to Nina rather swiftly. The story starts out with high tension and doesn't let up until readers are brought to the light. It took my 5th graders a while (they missed Luke) but eventually Nina won them over. It works because Haddix doesn't tell us about Nina all at once. She lets the secrets of her past come out slowly, over the course of the book. Haddix loves action and it's a good thing, because it's Nina's human-like reactions to the drama that unfolds that causes us to care for her. She's in pretty deep, and you want her to make it out alive.

I'm not going to praise Haddix for making any literary masterpieces that will stand the test of time, but I'm hooked and so are my 5th graders and that has to be a good sign. So far the books are getting better and better, but here's hoping we get back to Luke and find out what he's been up to.

You have read the book Among the Betrayed. I think it is the best out of all three in the Among the Hidden series. If you liked the other two you will like this one. If you don't read the other two then you probably be lost through parts of this book. I hope you read this excellent book.
I have been telling you that this is an excellent book but not why so I'm going to tell you why. In the book the main character is Nina. She has been convicted of being a third child in a world where you can only have two. Now she is given a choice. She can betray three children or die. Of course she chooses to betray. As she spends time with these children she finds it hard to betray them. Time starts to run out. She has twenty-four hours. A guard is poisoned and she grabs his keys while nobody is looking. Another man takes her to her cell, but he doesn't have the right key for it so leaves her there and locks there exit door. It is time to make her decision what will she do. I geuss you will have to read the book to find out

This is the third book in the Shadow Children series. The first two focused on Luke (now called Lee Grant). The main character in this book is Nina, who we last saw being hauled away by the Population Police at the end of book 2. We were led to believe that Nina was a spy at the Harlow girls' school looking to identify third (shadow) children. It turns out that Nina is a third child herself and was not a spy at all.

She was brought to the Population Police prison where she is beaten and told to confess to falsely accusing kids of being shadow children. Nina doesn't know what they are talking about.

She is told that she will be executed unless she helps the Population Police get confessions from 3 shadow children they are holding in their prison. Nina is to gain their confidence and get them to give her the information the Police want.

Nina is faced with a moral dilemma. She can't cause the death of others but if she doesn't, she herself will be killed.

From the rest of the story on, the reader can figure out that things aren't what they really seem. This is because Nina and the kids escape too easily and seem to be able to get to a location they shouldn't know how to get to. That is why I don't consider this book as good as the first two, but it is still ok for the continuance of Haddix's tale of a future that echoes of Nazi Germany.

This book is just fine, but definitely not as good as its predecessors ("Among the Hidden" and "Among the Imposters"). The story turns slightly from the original story which we were introduced to in the first two books by shifting the focus onto a new main character, Nina (Elodie) instead of Lee (Luke). This would have been fine except that I didn't find her character nearly as interesting as Luke. Not only that, but Nina is constantly bemoaning a failed romance, which is annoying and overblown (you just want to slap her and tell her to get a life). Over the course of reading the first two books I've become rather attached to Luke and missed learning more about him. While he is mentioned near the end of the novel, his presence is really minor...and sorely missed. The plot of this book is also a bit more transparent then the first two books, it did not surprise me or keep me on my toes, I could see the end before it happened. However, the plot still leaves open the room for more sequels so there is hope for another book in the future that is better then this one. "Among the Betrayed" is a fine effort and I recommended it if you have enjoyed "Among the Hidden" and "Among the Imposters", but don't expect it to be as good.

Have you ever had a nightmare? Its nothing compared to Nina Idi. Or as her real name calls her Elodie Luria. In a nightmare you usually get to to wake up. However for Nina......she is living one.

Nina Idi. Your normal average six-teen year old. However , you can't call Nina normal. For in her community the third-child in the family is illegal. Unfortunaly for Nina Idi, she is an illegal child. Jason, he is the love of Nina's life.So she thinks. Jason betrays her, and turns her into the Population Police. Now her life is going to change. Forever.

What I like about Among the Betrayed is that how the author gave Nina great qualities. Nina is a girl who thinks before she acts. Like cause and effect. You can call Nina honest.(If you delete the part about her fake i.d.)

Would I give this book a reccomendaion? Of course. It is perfct for any reader who loves action, a little bit of romance, and drama.

This book Among the Betrayed is a very good book. I really enjoyed it. At first it was a little hard to get attached to, but after the fourth chapter, or so you really get into it. You just can't stop reading it! Nina, the main character, was arrested after getting accused by betraying all the exnays, by her love Jason. Nina was sent to jail and she was treated very badly. Then one day, Nina was forced into betraying these three young children. When she got into the same jail cell as them she describes them as very filthy and scurvy. The three children's names are, Matthias, Percy, and Alia.

After she got to know the three kids she was very upset to have to betray them. One of the guards got poisoned and Nina did something very brave and extraordinary! I'll guess you'll just have to find out what happens next after you read the book! I really recommend this book to anyone that likes mysteries or books that you can really get into!

Among the Betrayed is the third book in the shadow children series. Nina, the main character is betrayed by Jason who she loves, and has been accused of treason and is in prison. She is given a choice of making friend with three children to find out nformation or she dies. They all escape the prison and hide in the woods outside Hendricks School. Nina is caught stealing food and is taken. She realizes she has been put to test by the people who are trying to save her.

I really liked this book. It was very suspenseful, and I never wanted to put it down. Nina has lots of choices to make in life, just like teenagers have to make lots of choices in life. You need to read the first two books before you read this book.

"Nina relax, it's Percy and Matthias," Alia answered. This quote is from the book Among the Betrayed by Margeret Peterson Haddix. This story has a suspensful plot that will keep you excited throughout the book. Some plot twists are unexpected, but very interesting.

The important characters are Nina, Alia, Percy, and Matthias. My favorite character was Alia because she was so young, but so smart. Alia was a natural criminal and she was only eight years old. If you like what you are hearing so far, then keep reading on.

The book is told in first person point of view, which means that Nina is the one that is telling the story. This story's setting is at the population police prison and some woods by Hendricks School for Boys. This is a very quick read, but Haddix will keep you coming back for more. I love reading her books. The genre of this book is fiction.

This is the fourth book in this series , the first three books are Among the Hidden, Among the Imposters, and Among the Barons.I highly recommend this novel to anybody who enjoys reading a book.

Do you like or enjoy mystery and action books? If yes, this might be the book for you to read. The author of Among the Betrayed is Margraret Peterson Haddix. The book is condidered a fiction book. Mostly because the characters are fake.

Among the Betrayed is a magnificent book about an orphan girl looking for somewhere to live and be safe. The population police are chasing her and looking for her. I don't won't to tell you anymore. I think you should at least try and read the book also I reccomend this book to anyone who likes mystery and action/adventure. In my own opinion this book was interresting and I would read it again.

Have you loved someone that has risk to betray you with out you knowing anything about it? That is how it is in this book Among the Betrayed. The book Among the Betrayed is a really sad story of a girl who loves, but is in hiding from the population police the people who take you away if you are a third child and she is cought now because of someone she loved. I understood this book because the actions the characters have for there emotions an example would be, when nina decided not to spy for the population police. I would recommend this book to a person who wonders what is going to happen next.

I thought this book was really good. I just loved it. It always made me want to keep on reading faster and faster. I never wanted to put the book down, but I had to. It was a school project. In some parts of the book it was funny but most of it was suspenseful. I loved all the details in the book plus I liked how it was exciting and how I didn't want to put the book down. I think someone that is into thought-provoking and suspenseful books will really enjoy this book. I have read the first books plus this one in the Shadow Children Series, and right now I'm working on the next book. I really enjoyed how Luke was more scared and not talkative to new people and how Jason was so out there and broke the rules all the time.

Among the Hidden is an excellent book.If you have never read this book you should. If you were reading it you would've never guessed the ending. It took me by surprise. Thise book is mostly about Nina. She is suppose to betray three kids that got caught by the population police and she is suppose to get them to talk. she is really suppose to get them to tell her if they are really thrid childrens with a fake I.D's. If she dosen't the population police will kill her. What do you think? will she betray them to save her life? You have to read the book to find out.

In Among the Betrayed by Margaret Haddix, Nina is accused of telling the government that certain people were shadow children when they really weren't.
When Nina meets her interegator, he gives her a choice, she can die or make the other three prisoners in her cell tell her where they are from and where did they get those fake ID's. Nina doesn't know what to do. Should she squel or die?
But when (conveniently)a guard is poisin and drops his keys to Nina's cell next to Nina's feet, Nina takes the keys. When Nina comes back, Matthias, Percy, and Alia (the other three prisoners) are huddled next each other sleeping. Nina wakes them up and tells them her plan. They would run as far away as they can from the prison, and when safe they would visit Luke (main character from first book).
During their journey, Nina learns of her friends "streetsmarts". When they reach Luke she learns that he didn't trust her and niether did the whole school (which was full of shadow childs). Later on Nina meets with the interogator again and he tells Nina the he is Mr. Talbot father of Jen Talbot who tried to make a huge protest so the government would take away the two kids limit law. She also learns that the whole prison/runaway was all a big test to see if Nina could really be trusted.
I recommend this book for people who like realistic fiction. I also recommend this book for people 7-14.

Hey! ... this book by Margret Peterson Haddix is a story about love, hatred, betrayal, and surivivsl. the main character is Nina Idi, or is it? Nina ( thats is her fake ID name) is an illegal third child. her real name is Elodie. The setting takes place at a prison. It adds to the mood because everyone acts depressed. It is not a normal jail it is a jail for illegal third children. Unfortunatly Nina was found at Harlow school for girls. I love this book! I would recommed this to anyone! That's why I gave it 5 stars

BOOK REVIEW: AMONG THE BETRAYED

Among the Betrayed, by Margaret Peterson Haddix, is part of a series that is about shadow children. Shadow children are children who exceed the two child limit. In Among the Betrayed, a shadow child named Elodie Luria (who's fake name was Nina Idi) was born and raised with her grandma and aunts. She was falsely accused and arrested for being a traitor that turned in shadow children.

While in jail, she makes a deal with a person who she referred as "the hating man". She is to go into a cell with three other illegal shadow children and try to earn their trust to prove that they are really shadow children for her freedom. As time goes by Elodie starts to regret what she is doing and escapes out of the prison with the three kids and to start a new life.

This book is influential to me because it helps me realize that in this world there are people who go through very tough times but somehow manage to get by. It shows me that sometimes in life, there are certain choices that you have to make on your own and depending on the options, they could change your life dramatically. Before I read this book, I knew it was going to be a book that I would enjoy because I also enjoyed the previous book called Among the Hidden. After I read this book, I achieved a better understanding of the series and it provided me with a better interest of these books.

This book tells me that all people have different opinions and have different behaviors in this world. For example, in Among the Betrayed, there are the population police (who arrest illegal shadow children) and there are people who try to help the illegal shadow children start new lives as regular children so they do not have to hide from the population police. Everyone has their own opinion of what is right and wrong and how to change things. From this story, I have learned not to judge others from their covers because even though people are given a title it is not always, how they are like. For example, if a person is given a title that they are a bully because they are big it does not always mean that person is a bully. The person could be a nice and kind hearted.

The style of Among the Betrayed there was a lot of figurative language. The text was descriptive and helped me understand the settings and scenes of the story a lot better. The book contained numerous short paragraphs and chapters, which contained plentiful amounts of dialogue. Overall, I would recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who is looking for a good and exciting book.

Among the Betrayed is a great book. It shows the view of people who are illegal third children. They had to hide so they do not get taken by the Population Police and get killed. A girl, who was taken away by the police, had the option of betraying three kids in her cell, and then getting set free, or not betraying them, and getting killed. She was too shocked to tell the policeman that she wouldn't betray them. The end of the book gets very intense. Also, there is a huge twist that you definitely wouldn't even think would happen.

Among the Betrayed by Margaret Peterson Haddix is a science fiction book where families are forbidden to have more than two children.
Nina, the main character and also the third child, is betrayed by someone she loves, and later falsely accused of treason and imprisoned by the Population Police. The Population Police are in charge of capturing third illegal children. Nina is put into a no win situation where she has to choose to betray the friends she has come to trust or be executed.
When Nina has an opportunity to escape, she takes her three new friends, Matthias, Percy, and Alia along with her. When they run out of food, the decision is made for Nina to find help in a school she knew, Hendrix School for Boys. Nina is captured and taken to Mr. Talbot for interagation. What does Nina soon learn? Nina soon realizes that everything is not what it seems, and she realizes that she has been put to a test by the people who are trying to save her. Does Nina pass the test?
I like the way Haddox made Nina a believable character, and showed how she agonized over her decisions she had to make. I believe teens today can related to Nina in that, they also, have tuff decisions in their life to make. Read the book, it's awesome!

This was a very good book. Felt that it explained events and circumstances that could eventually become real. Overpopulation is growing into a big problem in our world, and that is why the "third child law" could come true eventually. It kept my attention and the author did a very nice job of explaining things in great detail. Although this book was a required part of my English grade, I thought that it was very worthwhile.

This book is focused on third children, and how they are not to exist. If you are a third child, you would have to do one of two things; you would have to hide for many years until you are old enough to go to a school. Then you would have to buy a fake I.D. card.

The second thing you could do is turn yourself in to the population police. If you did that your child would be killed and you might be thrown in jail.

I liked how the story teller is a third child himself, and how lee organized many games for the kids played.

There wasn't anything that I did not like.I recommend this book to anybody who likes terrifying stories.

It is a very interesting, and a very informitive book. It tells you alot about the shadow children and how they tryed to get away from the population police. It is also about how a girl and three children get away from the population police, but they get caught stealing food from a garden and they get in trouble, but they don't get sent to the population police. It was a very good book.

This book was highly enjoyable. I read it while in middle school, so, naturally I would suggest it for that same age group.

This book in the Shadow Children Series was very mysterious. The plot is strong, though it does get a bit confusing at times. It does get a bit 'dull', though I did enjoy this book overall.

I would recommend reading the previous books in this series for this one, though it isn't necessary.

The issue of population control is one of real concern for the planet, and should be a topic with plenty of meat to dig into from all perspectives. The author could have used this series to create a powerful story encouraging real reflection on the part of her young readers. Instead she has sensationalized it. This is nothing more than a cheap thriller pandering to the lowest marketing strategy.
What will our world do when our resources will not support human population? Try various different methods to resolve the issue while maintaining respect and dignity for people? Or create laws and enforcers to murder innocents? What story line would be a more productive use of young readers' time? Exploring the use of cooperation and responsible behavior to solve global problems, or exploring the use of fear, threat, force, and destruction? Which adds more depth and complexity to the plot; gray areas that explore rights and responsibilities, or a black/white evil enforcer/innocent victims scenario?
This book won't make it's way to my classroom, and I'll pass on the rest of the series.

I thought the book Among The Betrayed was a great boook. When each chapter ends the suspense makes want to keep reading. If you would like to read this book I would recomend reading the first two books of the series. Among The Betrayed was my favorite book out of the six I read.

"Betrayed" was my favorite out of the four books I have read from the Shadow series. I enjoyed the three main characters than engage in the series that engage with Nina, the protagonist. This book explains from another point of view the "jackal" that "L" dealt with in "Imposters." Great storytelling, as I am child at heart and love children's books.

After reading this book, I'm left with more questions. Things aren't what they appear. How can third norms trust anyone? They are consistently in fear that someone will betray them. Can't wait to get the next installment.
