I liked the story , it kept me turning the pages, I wanted Penny to find her life love. Sometimes it got a bit wordy and sometimes there was repetition. I would recommend this book to my friend, Linda, it seems to be the kind of book she would enjoy.

Like the stories of Sherlock Holmes, in era and setting, it was quite enjoyable getting to know Penny Green, her family, friends and surroundings. As the plot is coming to its end the reader has possibly identified the murderer, but Ms. Organ holds back a couple of last minute surprises! Nicely done, Emily, and a lot of gentle fun.

Uh oh! Actress Lizzie Dixie’s managed to get herself killed—twice. She was drowned in the Thames River the first time, and now she’s been found shot dead in Highgate Cemetery. It’s quite a feat, but no worries. Intrepid street reporter Penny Green is hot on the trail of untangling the mystery of Lizzie’s hidden lives and buried secrets. Penny Green being on the case is a miracle at all because: (1) it’s 1883 and women don’t solve murders; (2) Penelope has already been fired for publicly disagreeing with the police; and (3) it’s 1883 and women don’t solve murders! But there she goes, helping Inspector James Blakely and noticing he’s kinda cute in every kinda way. Is it wrong to notice? Not when a book is this delightful!

What can I say? LIMELIGHT is the first entry in the PENNY GREEN MYSTERIES and I’m HOOKED! Intriguing story, compelling writing, fantastic characters are all there to entice you to follow along. It’s a must read for any detective fan, especially since Ms. Organ pays such meticulous attention to historical detail. I admire authors who can pull this off, and would liken her to Anne Perry in this regard. They both include the customs and mores of the time, and it’s downright fascinating. It's especially true when the stories document the way pioneers, represented by Ms. Penelope Green, helped pave the way for later generations of females wishing to spread their wings.

The pacing is more than good, and the storytelling superb. I loved Penny Green in all her feistiness. There’s an elegance and charm, and I do wonder if she’ll ever become closer to the equally charming Inspector Blakely. They would make such a lovely couple, going through life solving mysteries, and raising eyebrows at the same time.

Definitely download yourself a copy and see what the buzz is about. This is one I can highly recommend! FIVE CRIME-STOPPING STARS!!!!

For purposes of disclosure, I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Review Miss Penny Green, A Victorian Delight!

If you are unfamiliar with the Penny Green Series, aquaint yourselves immediately! This is a fun series, featuring intrepid reporter Penny Green. She's smart, talented and spunky in her search for the truth. This truly well researched series is a pleasure to read, full of mayhem, murder and a continuing mystery surrounding Penny's missing father, presumed lost while plant hunting in South America. There are 4 in the series, can be read in any order, and can be enjoyed by those 14 and up.
Give Miss Penelope Green a try, highly recommended

After reading and enjoying The Teacher I looked forward to this story and soon discovered it is a very good read.
Penny Green is a great character and I love the interaction with James. This is a good mystery which keeps you guessing. Lots of atmosphere of the time period too.

I must also say here as it isn't listed anywhere, I enjoyed Westminster Bridge, details how to get this are at the back of this (Limelight) book. An added bonus.

I hope we get to read more of Penny Green.

I enjoyed reading this 19th century setting for this murder mystery. The descriptions of the various locations and architecture was well done. I wish the main characters had been a little better described, though. It seemed to come out in bits and pieces throughout the book. As to the plot itself, it was pretty good. I will say by the end I was surprised.
I would recommend to readers of murder mysteries, especially historical fiction readers.

Life for a lady journalist/reporter in Victorian London is hard. Jobs are at the mercy of important people who may not care for stories infringing on their interests. Payment is far from adequate. Male competition is a given. The police frequently are not helpful. Despite all this, getting the story, resolving the problems behind it, confronting a murderer gives a sense of satisfaction, and certainly, relief that one has not--at least completely-- become a victim. While the action does not move particularly fast except for the last ten percent the book is well worth reading.

I have found a new author that blends descriptive writing and a interesting story. This first book leaves you wanting to spend more time with our heroine Penny., an-independent journalist solving crime in the late 1800.

I enjoyed this book. The mystery was woven well enough to keep me guessing until the last chapter or so. Well done. This is the first book of a series and yet it seems there was a story I missed. The author alludes to a "case" or story that got the MC fired...huh? I felt I was missing something that was never really revealed. On the good side, it was a minor issue in this story - it just kept me from making this a five star rating.

Nicely researched tale based in Victorian London with intrepid woman reporter Penny working on the mysterious murder of an actress who was buried five years before her murder. Mystery is ok, but fairly predictable. Characters are lightly developed and have potential. Very pleasent read for those who like Victorian period mysteries.

The author tried too hard to redirect and keep the reader in the dark, which causes parts of the story to just not make sense.

During one scene, Penny and the detective are trying to figure out the reason the victim faked her own death, and neither can figure out why. A page later and Penny remembers a conversation where the victim says exactly why she would want to fake her own death.

Penny reads a bit like a Mary Sue, and her involvement in the case definitely feels forced. Realistically a reporter is the last sort of person you want involved in a high-profile case, less so if they personally knew the victim!

Overall the author simply over complicated a very simple murder, and frankly the killer's motive was obvious from the very beginning.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and I found myself really relating to them, especially Penny and James. As for the mystery, it was full of twists and turns so you didn't want to put the book down. The perpetrator will surprise you. Can't wait for the next book in the series! Hopefully more of Penny and James as well.

Enjoyed the historical back story references and the twists and turns as the mystery unfolds and the relationship between Penny and James begins and evolves. Looking forward to future mysteries featuring this pair!

Ms. Organ quickly and thoroughly immerses the reader into characters, place and time. The plot twists and turns with just enough clues and false trails to have had me guessing through 88% of the book. The main character is relatable enough to make interested in her future welfare, so I'm glad I bought the next book!

I enjoyed Limelight, a historical mystery set on 1800's London. The story involves Penny Green, a newspaper reporter, and her investigation into the murder of a friend. I enjoyed the setting and historical details of that time. I will be reading the other books in the series.

This is an interesting mystery with a determined heroine, a young detective, and lots of murder suspects. It's an easy read, sufficiently researched and is well written. As a first in a series, I enjoyed it quite well. Five stars for keeping me intrigued and headed for the second book in the series.

I’m loving these Victorian era mysteries. This one has a lot of historical references. I learned about female journalism in that era. I had no idea that was a blossoming field for women at that time! Bicycles, split skirts and a very good story!

i don’t think the main character would have gotten away with so much, being female. the twist is well done. and i can see how running after someone in skirts, bustles and corsets would be a challenge. she was overly good at it, i think.

Loved the description in this novel. The author gave London dogs of the day as well as the ghastly tobacco and overwhelming perfumes their due in social settings that were quite believable. The history was intriguing.

This book features an appealing heroine, plenty of period detail, and a fast-paced plot. The mystery elements are secondary, as most of the writing focuses on character development or on period atmosphere.

Only a few typos! It's well written, characters likeable, story arc needs some help tho- the entire book the characters had no clue who was a suspect and then BAM it's all tidied up neatly in the last perhaps 10 pages. The historical aspect was very nicely done.

Painstakingly researched, this delightful mystery has an incredible sense of time & place. Couple that with a wonderfully plucky heroine & an intriguing story and you have an unforgettable read. I am already halfway through the next book in what I hope to be a long & successful series.

A book much like the Lenox series of mysteries but from a struggling woman writer rather than the upper class. Penny Green is our sleuth and journalist on a Male dominated Fleet St. who works to right wrongs that the authorities are missing. Lots of information about women's struggling for equal rightsis incorporated in the story.
