Handsome, brilliant, mysterious, with a soft heart for his family and the downtrodden, what’s not to love?
This is a well-written, tight mystery with a page-turner ending! I can’t wait for the sequel, but why only 2?

It was interesting and really kept me reading. I liked the characters. Our hero seems very much like Sherlock Holmes. Not that that is a bad thing. So even though it was not the best book I've read lately I did enjoy it.

The most interesting part of this book is the cover! While the author may have writing skills
in other areas mystery is not her fote.Weak plot plus one dimensional characters equal a
time waster !
Trauma Room Two :: A Pioneering Program for Restoring the Wisdom of Your Body :: Understanding the Stress-Disease Connection - When the Body Says No :: An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others :: The Yard (Scotland Yard's Murder Squad)

The characters were so well described and motivated, I felt that I almost knew them personally. Only bad part was that the book ended. In addition to great characterization and motivation, the plot was fantastic.

I enjoy thrillers and mysteries that feature a strong recurring character. I loved Det Ian Hamilton and hope to read about him again in future novels. In addition, I enjoyed the flavor of historic Edinburgh. This book made me want to travel there.

Very entertaining. I love the whole Victorian, Edinburgh theme of this mystery. The author spins a cloud of mystery, murder with a mist of confusion, suspicion, and anticipation. Great for a rainy day lay in.!

Well written with a lot of twists and turns which I love in a good suspenseful mystery. The writing style was a bit different than I was used to; new chapters would switch to different people in the storyline. Overall I would read others books in the series as it was an interesting story.

Started off great but really didn't go anywhere. Characters seem stereo typical which isn't necessarily bad but they never develop as the story moves forward. I will read the next in the series though.

This is an excellent story set in a truly interesting and rarely used environment. Also one of my favorite time periods. Obviously very well researched. The supporting characters are splendid and I can't wait to meet them again. Highly recommend this book.

This was quite simply the best mystery I have read in a long time. The author puts you in Edinburgh, the sights, sounds and smells. You meet every character face to face and learn their stories, and they stay with you. I have already pre-ordered the next in this great series.

This book did a good job of discussing Scottish society of the period. The author developed some interesting characters but the mystery element of the book could have been better obscured by the author to add additional suspense.

Wonderful reading. Excellent plot and storyline. Well developed and interesting characters. Atmosphere well versed. Historically accurate with references to local dialect and slang. Want this series to continue.

Interesting main character. Thought she was too quick to kill off one of the supporting characters. Plot, setting and atmosphere also held my interest. I would read another if author continues the series.

Although the story is the classic detective v.s. villain, which is not a new theme, the characters are brought to life in a wonderful way. This is due to the great writing style the author showed in this book.

Excellent read -- detailed picture of historical Edinburgh, with character development, and fast action suspense. Philosophical struggle to understand good and evil adds to the story, rather than interrupting it. It's a long book, but well worth the time.

Such a great escape! This book transported me to another time and place. The story is written so beautifully and drenched in such delicious details that it makes me wonder whether the author was reincarnated from the 1800's in Scotland.
