Once again Jeff Shaara puts out a historically sound enjoyable read! I rarely read fiction but I make an exception for Sharra's writing, and I am never disappointed. His historical accuracy tied to his story telling makes for great reading!

Very satisfied with my purchase. Book was boxed and wrapped - well protected. It arrived in excellent condition. Only about half way through book at this point, but it's a good read so far just like Jeff Shaara's other civil war books.

Admit to being a big supporter of Lee and Longstreet - wanted to open my eyes to the conflicts in the 'west'. Was strange and alarmed to see how Bragg was portrayed. What a wretched man who contributed very little to the fght - was he really this petty, this jealous, this worthless? Embarassed that we have a Fort named after him. Enjoyed the book immensley. Toward the end I struggled to put it down. Would like to see this author or someone with his style tackle the Napoleonic Wars.

Many civil war novels focus on well known battles such as Vicksburg or Gettysburg. This book was refreshingly different because it was set in Chattanooga, Tennessee, home of some of my ancestors. My mother grew up on missionary ridge and I had visited there so I had an emotional connection to the story of this struggle.

Living now in Chattanooga this brought the campaign to clarity. Shaara follows his fathers footsteps with distinction. Killer Angels brought that same vivid sence of place to the hallowed ground at Gettysburg. Bringing the generals and soldiers to life works in a special way.

Jeff Shaara has the winning formula for historical fiction started by his father in The Killer Angels.
Although Lookout Mountain is one of the lesser known battles of the Civil War, this novel exposed more of the personalities of the generals involved as well as the importance of the media in the course of the war.

I LOVED the book. Jeff Shaara does not disappoint in this story of the battle in Chattanooga. The characters come alive and you feel like you were there. He truly captures the Civil War in all it's glory and horror.

Compelling reading brought the battle and play of personalities to life. The interplay of human flaws and egos of the general and political leaders exposed along with the resultant misery to their troops and civilians.

The only complaint I have ever had about Jeff Shaara is having to wait for the next volume. I have treasured each of these Civil War novels. Any of his works about the wars in which we have been involved have been of consistent high quality.

After reading Jeff Shaara' s other exceptional Civil War novels, I've been looking forward to this one. I wasn't disappointed. Shaara has a wonderful ability to draw you into the story with great characterizations of the people in his stories. What a treat. I'm looking forward to the next.

As a Civil War buff I loved the historical rendering and the personal touches that made it so much more real. I have read the whole four book series and would recomend it to everyone who loves history and wants to prevent further nonsence.

I have been reading and loving Jeff Shaara novels since he published the prequel and sequel to "Killer Angels." He brings history to life like no author I know. I highly recommend his Civil War and WWII novels.

Jeff Shaara scores another bullseye with his latest novel. This is the best of the three novels concerning the war in the western theater. I'm eagerly looking forward to the fourth book in the "trilogy."

Mr. Shaara has another of his heavily researched , superbly crafted books in this one. I read the prequel about the siege of Vicksburg and then got into this one. It was a nice follow up and a good glimpse of the hardships, both logistical, weather induced and, more often than not, just plain dumb moves by some of those in command. The battle is decided in large part by something unexpected, I don't want to spoil it so you'll have to read it to find out.

Always look forward to the next Shaara novel. Appreciate him bringing history to life, whether the civil war, the revolution, for World War I and II. One of the few authors I still get in hardcover so that I may savor them again and again.

Mr. Shaara continues with his "style" of writing by personalizing leaders and common soldiers who play parts in another of our Civil War's great battles. The details in their daily lives and the more significant details of the battles allows the reader to feel that he/she is right there alongside Grant, Sherman, Bragg, or Bauer. I enjoyed this book because it is more than just a historical description. It sets a good story right in the middle of that history.

A great read for anyone who enjoys reading about the Civil War. Good information about the generals and the politics of the period. The battle for the city of Chattanooga was important for the control of Tennessee and led to the Union going into Georgia and Sherman's march to the sea.

After having been a little disappointed by his book on Vicksburg, i began this book with some hesitancy. I was pleasantly surprised. I found this book had a faster pace and that Mr. Shaara was back to his old form. I loved this book.

Another excellent book by Jeff Shaara that puts you in the middle of the Battle of Chattanooga. Even though this describes a battle that occurred 150 years ago and I knew the outcome, I couldn't put the book down.

Jeff Shaara has done it again. Another masterfully written alternate history that makes the reader realize that it would have only taken one change and the history of this great country of ours would be completely different. I can't wait for the final volume to be published.

No one writes a more exciting or insightful narrative of what the men on the ground go through to survive and win or lose. He is even handed in praise and criticism. My only complaint is that Mr. Shaara' novels are over too soon.

Another fine read. Shaara's characterization of the events, victory by chance, is eloquent. Bragg, Grant, Thomas, Sherman, Willis, Bauer ...all ...give the reader a mind's eye view of the history, complete with the egos, blunders, successes and ultimate failure of "the cause". Well done !

As per usual, Jeff Shaara does the background research needed to bring the reader into the picture and keep them riveted throughout the book. Great insight into Bragg and Grant as well as other key participants in the fight.
