This fine book by Jeff Shaara shows through various personalities the mindset of America and Britain as the Revolution approached. Especially moving is the account of Benjamin Franklin. Obviously Jeff Shaara did a good job of reading "John Adams" before beginning the book, and it was time well spent. So to will your time be well spent reading this novel, a fine one (and much better than Gone For Soldiers)...

After reading Shaara's books on the civil war and now this book on the revolutionary war, you get the feeling that he was there, the proverbial fly on the wall. His presentation of the personal thoughts of the key players is probably very close to what their actual thoughts and reactions must have been in the days leading up to the revolution. Another great book from the Sharra family.

The author tells the story of the revolutionary war through the eyes of the people who created and fought in the armies including the men who would eventually sign the declaration of independence. We get a glimpse of what men like George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Sam Adams, John Adams and British Generals were thinking when they entered into and fought in the Revolutionary War. You see the courage of the rebels who didn't have to fight but believed in a cause.

Reads like a novel but is full of interesting facts - granted, some conversations between people are probably fabricated because who knows what was actually said, but it is still true to history. Anyone who is interested in how the US was born would find this book to be a nice read.

Great author, and a Historical Novel well worth the read. If you appreciate this nations history and the sacrifices made for this nation I recommend you read it. The congress and their prejudices have changed very little it seems.

The book is excellent. The printing and binding quality were less than expected. This is basically a paperback book between two pieces of cardboard. The margins were uneven, the print small and the paper quality poor.

Great stuff from Shaara. "Rise" has a different feel than the Civil War trilogy but also is somehow a little less compelling, though hard to figure exactly why. Perhaps it relates to Michael Shaara's fascinating depiction of Lee in Killer Angels; Jeff is good, but he has not yet topped his dad's work.

"Used Good. . . writing inside front cover (name, personal note, etc.)," Book had extensive writing throughout--very distracting when reading especially as most of the comments were inane and nonsensical. The book itself is excellent. Shaara does a wonderful job presenting a subject so little known by modern Americans. If more people knew the subject i.e. why America came to be then I doubt we would be in the mess we are in today.
