Shaara does a.great job, once again, putting the reader in the boots of the troops while providing insight on what has to happen to support them. It was an enlightening narrative about a forgotten war.

Jeff Shaara's books are always written with the reader in mind but are historically accurate! No punches are pulled in telling how men suffer in war. It is a shame that the politicians that start wars don't have to fight them!

I enjoyed this excellent dramatization of this important and courageous battle that is so unknown by so many. It is important to remember those who did their duty in WWII, yet stepped up again in Korea.
A Novel of the Battle of Shiloh (the Civil War in the West) :: A Deadly Vigilante Crime Thriller (Affair with Murder Book 1) :: A Novel of the Civil War (Civil War Trilogy) - The Last Full Measure :: Angel Killer: A Jessica Blackwood Novel :: The Fateful Lightning: A Novel of the Civil War

This is a compelling story of an often forgotten war that reveals the hardships the troops on both sides faced. It also displayed some of MacArthur's ego in making some perfectly awful strategic decisions. To those who have forgotten or know little about this tragic action in Korea it is a must read that captures the essence of what those brave men experienced.

Now that we are having problems with North Korea it was very informative and great insight into what is happening today.
I have read all Jeff"s books and never not enjoyed them. Kudos to him for another 5 star book

Shaara adds the Korean war to his list of accomplishments. I love him as he wrote about the Civil War, and he has only gotten better as he wrote about the revolutionary war, Mexican American war, World War I and World War II.

It is completely consistent with the history I've heard from people who were there and with written history from several sources. Mr Shaara captures the many personal and political details that made Chosin such an epic event. It's on an equal level with his father's work on Gettysburg.

Shaara is a great military historian, his history reads like a novel. He brings out the personalities of not only the major players in the Korean War, but also the war from the point of view of the privates.

Great story, well told. Shows how politics causes many more causalities during a war then necessary. Generals behind desk do not listen or accept officers in field. Jeff does an outstanding writing job.

I really enjoyed this one. This war was never really written about. I have friends who fought there and it was interesting to read about the real situation. I lent the book to one of them. Great reading

Jeff continues to produce wonderfully well written novels. I own hardcover copies of all, save one, of his books. His mix of historical accounts and characters with the fictional conversations always works.

I always enjoy Shaara’s books for the historical detail as well as the writing. This is certainly no except. Such detail that I felt cold reading this! This was my first real journey into the Korea War and I was sad when the book was done.

Well done again Mr. Shaara, but I really hoped to read more about the fight around Yudam, because reading your novel after having read "The Last Stand of Fox Company", I already knew the story of Fox Hill. Your presentation of OP Smith was excellent, as well as General Sung. Cant wait till your next book!

As usual, Shaara writes a wonderful historic tale in his signature style. I'm so glad he chose to tackle the "forgotten war". It explains so much of both what happened at the time, and also why the region is still so hotly contested.

have really enjoyed this book. Haven't really thought about the Korean War except hearing about it from my uncles. It was cold and frigid against an enemy with overwhelming odds. Makes you think about doing war in Korea again.

Classic Shaara! Jeff puts an interesting perspective on a historical event that is otherwise not discussed or presented in history class. From a military perspective, the “attack in another direction” was perhaps one of the finest hours of the USMC that nobody hears about. This book is well worth the read.

My father served in Korea and spoke of the Frozen Chosen. I served in Korea in 1985 and Team Spirit in 1982 at Kunsan it was one of the coldest places I have ever been. I cannot imagine what those courageous men went through. I salute everyone of them.

Excellent book set during the Korean War. The portrayal of the characters depicted on both sides was excellent. The action and tactics impressive. One could truly feel the soldiers' plight on both sides as well as their leaders.

A great read. I loved the connection between what we know about the Korean War and the the personalities involved. It should be a must read for all of those who are aware of the current situation and the decisions that will be required in the future. I will be reading more books by this author

I found this a little atmospherically depleted. Some clunky dialogue and characters inadequately developed. Moving from one personality vignette to another made the narrative more episodic than the history deserved. Patchy!

The usual excellence which is typical Jeff Shaara. This book brings out a lot of emotions from the reader. Few people truly understand what our troops endured in this war. Thanks to Jeff Shaara for this great work of literary fiction.

Another excellent effort by Shaara. It mixed the historical depiction of the situation with banter by men who were there in multiple capacities. A great read and a real eye opener about the Korean War.
