It was impossible to put down once started. A heartbreaking story of a woman who could not understand what was being done to her. It takes the reader on a fast race while we cheer her on and wish her to understand and for someone to take the time to explain her condition. It was sad, but the triumph of her spirit was inspirational. Definitely I would recommend reading it.

Mary Beth Keane did her homework on Typhoid Mary. Fever is well written on a subject I had never thought about. Her depiction of New York City in the early 1900's hit a personal note since my own parents grew up and played on those same sidewalks. The author developed the characters of Mary and her lover and
made them very real for the reader. One of my best reads in a loooong time.
5 stars! I purchased the book on the store and have shared it with several friends already.

I purchased this book as a vacation read and enjoyed the story, the authors voice and the history of New York City it provided. Very visual. It is a compelling novel. Expect to feel outrage for, and about Mary.

This book was amazing and hard to put down. Gave wonderful insight of NYC at the turn of the century and made you feel as if you were there with Mary. I highly recommend this book by a great new author.

Interesting! After doing some research on Typhoid Mary, I felt the author captured her very well in this depiction...we read this for a book club which had an excellent discussion about the characters and led even more interesting discussion about the time period and our approach to dealing with contagious disease

I was very familiar with the name Typhoid Mary, but didn't really know much about her. The book was enjoyable fiction. And gave me some insight as to why her name is so well known as a carrier of disease.

Real history written in a personable way giving insight into the lives and living conditions of people of that time period and the peril involved in treating a deadly disease such as typhoid fever, and during a period of fairly recent U.S. history when antibiotics were as yet unknown. Fascinating reading!

MS. Kane, in attempting to portray Mary Mallon as human has instead exchanged one caricature for another. Mallon was undoubtedly a human with feelings and intelligence, however, according to the historical record, she was also extremely stubborn and absolutely unwilling to take responsibility for knowingly engaging in the occupation that caused many innocent people to sicken and many to die. She was knowingly unwilling to take responsibility for her actions. Mallon was not romantic heroine or an evil monster. The truth will never be known. As for her labwork many doctors testified it was useless. Pass this silly romance by and stick to the historical record.

Very interesting depiction of early 20th century New York City. The personal story of Mary and her lover gets a bit tedious at times but over all the picture of living and working conditions is fascinating. Count your blessings that you are not living in
"the good old times"!

The author unleashes a poignant portrait of how ignorance can be the demise of so many people. Her expert character development made all the players so real. A study in Human nature which is still applicable a hundred years later.

This novel takes the history of Typhoid Mary and makes you love her and hate her all at the same time. She was a victim of circumstances to a certain degree and at other times made willful decisions that indeed did harm to others. I would love to use this novel in the classroom for both the history and the questions that are posed in regards to human morality.

This book is a novel but reads (practically) like non fiction, which i usually prefer. It pulls you in and informs about things most of us dont know about. I could feel being in early twentieth century New York. i liked her writing enough that u bought the other book that she'd written

The publisher should consider revising the description of this book. While the first quarter of it surrounds Mary and her spread of the typhoid, a majority of the rest details her relationship with her alcoholic, drug-addicted companion. I'm shocked that he isn't even mentioned on the dust jacket since by the end, I felt this was 2/3 Albert, 1/3 Mary... I bought this as a daily deal, but would have been very disappointed if I had paid full price. For the 1.99 I paid for it, the parts about Mary were interesting. The writer's style is also not horrible. Just very bait and switch - If you don't mind waxing eloquent about the stereotypical drunk Irish man of these times, go for it but readers should be aware that this does not read as historical fiction as much as a Lifetime movie.
