This book has been on my to buy list for the past year and thanks to Kindle Unlimited, I finally was able to check it out. The story starts out rather slow and there is lots of questions to answer but half way in the novel, I was hooked. Skylar is a likeable main heroine and she does some growing up throughout the book and I am looking forward to reading what's next in store for her.

The Sky Brooks Series up till now (eagerly awaiting the fourth book) has been great to read. McKenzie Hunter has put a very unique spin on everything supernatural. This series has it all. What I enjoy most is, is that this series is not you're typical paranormal read. There is no girl meets boy, both fall in love, conquers all, and it all happens right there within the first book. Instead, we see the growth of each character and the storyline throughout each book. Which seem to be leading up to some pretty great things happening in book 4. Can't wait! I'd definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a different spin on the supernatural genre.

This is the first book I have read by this author and just couldn't turn the pages quick enough ! The characters are so interestung, you don't know who to root for ! The next in the series is just as good. I was not dissappointed!.

I am currently 45% of the way through this book, and the only reason I am still reading it is because I am trying to find something to like about it. When I first started reading this book, I was certain that I was not reading the first book of a series. I was absolutely positive I was reading a sequel to a book that had already been started. When I went back to check and see what number in the series this book was, I was completely shocked to realize that it really was the first. The beginning was abrupt and truly felt like it was the middle of another book or picking up where another book left off. As I have continued reading, I am finding there is really nothing I like about any of the characters. The main "heroine" is a bit whiny and, in my opinion, totally naive. I am almost halfway through the book, and still have no idea of what she "really" is, and am completely lost as to how she could have gone something like 8 years without wanting to know what she "really" was. It is completely confusing. Who would not want to know more about why they can "suddenly" just change into a wolf? The dynamic between characters is also almost completely hostile; there are only a few instances where the main "heroine" and the other characters are not "frustrated" by one another. It is like they are always ready to jump down each others' throats and have at it; to be quite honest, it is pretty exhausting, and I am only the reader.
I also have some serious issue with the writing. Mostly, it's okay. However, there are major issues with the editing. For instance, there are times when the main character just "knows" the names of people around her, without ever having been introduced to them, and there are places where words or whole parts of sentences are repeated right after they were uttered. All in all, I really have to say I do not like this book. I had been very excited about it when reading the description, but when I am almost halfway through the book and still have not heard half of what was provided in the description.

I really enjoyed this story because it did not follow a typical storyline and the usual outcomes did not always happen. There's a lot of potential to the story of Skylar and I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Adored this book. The characters are refreshing. The story line enraptured me and kept me guessing throughout. If you love stories of werewolves, shutters, and witches you need to read this book!

This book managed to capture my undivided attention after about 7 to 10 pages AND keep me so immersed in it I could not wait to finish it. I literally fell in love with Evan as well and can 't wait to read the next one in the series. W F Kerns

Moon tortured was slightly confusing at first but it has a good plot.
I enjoyed watching Skylar grow and develop as a character and werewolf. Ethan had me intrigued and can't wait to read more about him. It was over all a good read.

I really enjoyed this book, I was a bit unsure if I would at the start, but it developed well. I actually enjoyed that I wasn't able to assume what would happen all the time which I think happens so often in kindle unlimited books. I thought this was a great new twist on a genre that I already love.

Skylar, the main character is self absorbed and constantly makes the worst possible choice available to her. It got to the point that I was happy that bad things happened when she made yet another poor decision.
I will at least skim the rest of the series because I like the concept of this fictional world.

couldn't put it down for a break, this was one of my favorite reads after trilogy of souls - even though both are quite different!!
The were-human spirit shade that is protected by the pack and its two sexy brothers makes it for another exciting series of books I'm excited to be reading!

I loved this book and couldn't stop reading the series once I started! McKenzie's style of writing really keeps you intrigued and I love her characters, but most of all I loved that it wasn't just another romance cliche. If you like fantasy ,mistery , and complicated characters then Moon Tortured is a must read!

I just love skylar. She's so hardheaded and tries so hard to be independent. The tension between her and Ethan, just wow. I love and hate all the characters. It draws me in like I'm right there beside them. Just love it.

When I started this book I thought, ok this is boring. However after finishing the whole novel I find myself desperate for book 2. The plot was original, I never really knew were it was going next, kept me guessing. Not your traditional supernatural fiction. Vampires werewolves and witches oh my!!!

This was a very enjoyable book! There were many parts that I didn't exactly like or agree with but the ratio of good to bad is 75/25! I do recommend this book & I hope to enjoy the rest of the series!

It was a good time passer. The writers take on werewolves was interesting. The first book left lots of room for the sequels to involve lots of different mythical creatures. There were some funny and witty parts. It was an all together nice easy read.

The relationships in this book are confusing and unrealistic. I liked that they didn’t follow typical trends, but they did not progress...at all. The pretense is really interesting, but I can’t stand getting through another book with these painful character interactions.

Once I started reading, I couldn't stop! Well developed, likeable characters and story. The supernatural elements are realistic not ridiculous. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

I really enjoyed reading this however I found the repetition of explaining Skylar's not liking what she becomes annoying. I look forward to reading the next one to see if she learns to enjoy her new powers. And what her and Josh learn about the dark magic she can wield.

Skylar is terrified and stupid yet courageous and brave and warm. She outcasts otherwise to only try to believe that she is normal when she isnt . She has lots of potential that she doesn't know about. But lots of new enemies too.

This is a series I happened to come across on the store Prime. I was not sure I was going to enjoy this book, but something had me hooked and I did not stop reading until I finished book 4. I look forward to see what this author has in store for her characters and what other books she has available.

I read all three books in this series this week, since I've been cooped up sick or with sick kids. Let me tell you, they were great. I really enjoyed the world McKenzie has carefully crafted, and I cannot wait to delve back in when a new comes out! Good job!

loved this book! I was hooked immediately. The characters are interesting and quirky--there is a a wicked sense of humor it what could be a scary story--vampires, werewolves, etc. I read the entire thing in one sitting. I hope there is a sequel--or two or three.....

It would take just a small paradigm shift to see the shifters are just another set of "bad guys" holding Skylar hostage for no logical reason and she develops Stockholm Syndrome as a result. She's understandably resistant to her kidnapping and imprisonment but everyone complain about how ungrateful she is and a huge amount of time is spent telling her how foolish she is. It's frustrating. She stands up to herself for 2 seconds and then gives in and agrees with them. She has no spine and Is a victim who probably shouldn't be in charge of her own fate anyway. Interactions and dialog seem stilted and don't flow naturally. The first few chapters were actually better than the rest of the book so reading a sample might not give you what you need to judge for yourself. Some special stuff I highlighted...
1. At one point a 'bad' character uses "Pshaw!" in a sentence. And completely un-ironically.
2. "When I opened my eyes, there were four other pairs staring back at me:" She then lists 5 people.
3. Used "imploded" wrong; meant exploded. Explosive arrows rarely cause peoples heads to implode.
4. Nathan yells at Skylar once, "Go to the room..." when the meant "Go to your room." In response, "my autonomic nervous system was yelling at me to run." What? Do people really talk to themselves that way?
5. People keep telling her to calm down. Even after someone has tried to kill her. Clearly not something she's good at.

I've read a lot of paranormal romance novels in my day. I really wanted to like this book but honesty I'd skip it. Sky Brooks has no character arc, the male leads are not sexy or engaging, and the ending is so predictable! If you want a good romance novel check out something by Jessica Bird or Nalini Singh instead.

The writing is so poor I couldn't get through the first chapter. I don't think the author is aware of how to use adverbs and adjectives correctly. Even the blurb is poorly written. Perhaps some editing and polishing would improve this enough for it to be readable.
Update: I finished the first chapter and started the second. The word choice and usage is poor and kept throwing me out of the story. Also, the protagonist is unusually hostile and "too stupid to live," making poor decisions and antagonizing everyone around her for no reason.
This book could benefit from professional editing. I suggest the author read some books about improving her craft.
