The adventure of Amel and Raolcan continues and this was the most frustrating book of the first four. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to be able to continue immediately.
Firstly, Amel faces incredible amount of unfairness in this book, even from the people who have showed her kindness previously. It is infuriating to see how people change so easily and disregard Amel and what she has to say. She is nothing if not persistent, honourable and honest. She is also by far the bravest and strongest person in the whole story. She already achieved the impossible in the realm of dragon riders, however, that gets forgotten quite often.
There is so much intrigue and conspiracy in this book. It is not unexpected as we already get a hint of what might happen in the previous book, but the reactions of people who should know better are nothing short of a surprise. Some of the actors are stubbornly clinging to their preconceptions of certain individuals, it is infuriating.
We meet a very important character Rakturan, the Dark Prince of Baojang. There are hints that he will become very important to the story, as the future ruler of the kingdom on the brink of war with the Dominion. There are some new side characters introduced and some familiar characters from the previous books are featured prominently here. There is even a hint of romance.
It is blatantly clear that even the most experienced dragon riders and teachers do not fully understand the behaviour and personalities of the purple dragons, which are a special kind in their own right. That said, the special relationship between Amel and Raolcan is unique. It is based on mutual respect, understanding and incredible friendship.
I could not wait to see how they overcome future obstacles. Fortunately I was able to read the next book immediately. Needless to say, I devoured both books in one breath.
The series only makes sense if read in order: Dragon School: First Flight (Dragon School #1), Dragon School: Initiate (Dragon School #2), Dragon School: The Dark Prince (Dragon School #3), Dragon School: The Ruby Isles (Dragon School #4), Dragon School: Sworn (Dragon School #5) and more books have been announced.

Dragon School: The Dark Prince is book three in Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series. In Dragon School: The Dark Prince we are reunited with Amel and Leng right where things left off. Amel and Leng are fleeing from the Magikas who have murdered one of the teachers and a student in their quest for power and control of the dragons. Amel’s fellow Initiate, Starie, has joined the Magikas and betrayed the school in her own quest to be the one who marries the Prince. Leng is still terribly sick, and Amel must get him help if he is to survive. Amel is desperate to find the others and warn them of the treachery and danger that is afoot, but first she must stay alive and help Leng. When they land on an island, they soon discover that they are not alone. It is here that Amel crosses paths with the Dark Prince, and is able to see for herself a piece of what is to come.
Dragon School: The Dark Prince continues the story of Amel on her quest to become a Dragon Rider. She struggles with her disability, but she never stops and wallows because of it. She pushes forward and tries to be on par with the others around her. There are hints at a budding romance between Amel and Leng, but something tells me that this might be forbidden at this point when they are reunited with others from the school. Amel is also reunited with her friend from the school, who begged her for her help before when Amel had the scroll. Amel is once again torn between doing what she thinks is right and doing as she has been told by an elder.
The plot continues to thicken in this story as the web being woven becomes tighter and thicker. There are points of where you will wonder what exactly is going on in certain scenes. Amel is told not to tell anyone of what she has seen, but yet she feels obligated to tell someone. It’s frustrating for her when she feels that she is being dismissed because of her disability. I feel in a couple situations that she should have done more or tried a different tact.
The story is well written. It ends on an intense cliffhanger, but it just makes me more eager for the next book in this series. I’m excited to learn what happens next with Amel, Leng, and their dragons as the dangers around them come closer and become more real for all. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed this book very much and highly recommend it.
If you have not dived into this series yet then I highly recommend that you do so! If you love dragons, magic, a heroine who manages to stand against the odds then this is a series and a book that you should pick up. I know that you will enjoy as much as I have. Amel seems like an underdog at times, but I love how she always perseveres.

What an awesome read! I loved this story, even if it did feel much more shorter than the rest, I loved it!

What I love about these sequels is that they follow up just where we left off. Amel and Leng have escaped the Magikas and Starie, just. But they are exhausted and Leng is still feverish. There isn't much for Amel to do but when they land on an island and meet the Dark Prince, Amel suspects there is more going on with the arrange marriage with her friend Savette and the prince.
Amel knows Savette's life is in danger, but how can she warn her when no one will listen to a cripple girl?

Together, we will see Amel fight with courage and fear, we see her persistence and resistance throughout the novel, even when no one believes she can help, she still tries her best. This is why I love Amel, she gives 110% on everything she does. And I love her relationship with her purple dragon, Raolcan, its sweet and funny, their bond is unique.
And there's Leng, he gives Amel mixed signs. One time there is gentleness and care and another the next he is distant and cold. I love Leng and Amel together, so I do hope he reveals his feelings for her really soon.

Awesome read, cannot wait to start the next one!

Received a copy from the author herself, in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

Dragon School: The Dark Prince is the third book in this fun and fast paced young adult series. Amel is learning to be a dragon rider, but she is at a severe disadvantage being crippled in one leg. However, Amel never gives up. She's also perceptive, loyal, and caring. In the third book, she faces greater perils. There's plenty of intrigue and good people die. Leng is severely injured and Amel must watch over him. Can she keep him alive when others want him dead? I can't wait to read more in the series!

My Favorite Quotes from Book 3:
Amel's thoughts:
It was just so hard to be ambitious when you knew that your all would never be as much as their average. Still, I pushed myself.
Amel's words:
“I’m not going to break. Just because I broke before doesn’t mean that I’m fragile.”

These books read fast and wanting more. Amel as a character is really starting to figure out that all is not as it should be and maybe she needs to trust herself more. Everyone but her dragon seems to see her crippled leg and writes her off as not being able to handle dragon school.

Magikas have created what could be the start of war. Amel wants to help stop them and protect the Dominion.

Strongly recommend readung!

Really getting more intriguing - The two purple dragons working together willingly, even allowing the other's rider to ride them in an emergency - no other dragons would do that, and it shocked everyone. The relationship between Amel and Leng seems to be getting deeper, and I hope to see more of that as well. Eagerly looking forward to the next books!!

I thought this book had the weakest storyline from the three books so far. I was swept away by books one and two but this book left me wanting more. It was still well written and I thought the book was very good but just not to the same standard as the previous books. I look forward to the next book in the series! I received an arc for a voluntary review.

Reading this series is like watching someone grow up from childhood in that Amel has really come into her own. She has a confidence that she never had before. With her dragon by her side, she has finally learned to trust herself and trust another. It has opened her up to new possibilities. I can't wait for book 4!!

This is the third installment about Amel and her dragon best friend Raoclan. This time they seem to be in trouble again. I love this series so much. I love how the main character over comes so many odds despite being disabled. The only down side the books are not long enough. Can not wait for the next book.

Another great read.
The shorter stories certainly come with a punch . I’m not going to rehash the story but will simply say that it’s definitely a tense and adrenaline rush of a series that leaves you wanting more.
Brilliant storyline.
