The Princess in Black Takes a Vacation is another delightful installment of this terrific super hero series. After constant battling with goat-eating monsters from the monster world, The Princess in Black (aka Princess Magnolia) is exhausted. The Goat Avenger (aka Duff the Goat Boy) convinces her to take a vacation. He'll manage the monsters while she's gone. Princess Magnolia does just that, and she runs into Princess Sneezewort while she's relaxing at the beach. Only her enjoyment doesn't last long. A giant sea monster comes along and disturbs everyone. The Princess in Black saves the day again, while the Goat Avenger is left with little action back at home.
As always the chapters are short, the story is engaging, and the illustrations add to the fun. My son and I enjoyed reading this book together. We alternated chapters a little bit, so he could do some reading, although in the interest of time (because we always want to read these books in one sitting), I read the majority of the book. As the mother of a boy, I was happy to see Duff featured a little more in this book, but as always the Princess in Black in the true hero. It's a great feminist story for both boys and girls to read and love.

The Princess in Black is exhausted after a long week of nearly constant monster alarms. The Goat Avenger recommends she take a vacation and he promises to keep the goats safe. So Princess Magnolia is off for a nice, relaxing, peaceful vacation at the beach. Too bad nobody told the sea monster.
Squirrel! A cute little squirrel! I would now like to request that LeUyen Pham make a squirrel-themed book because her squirrels are adorable. Ahem, yes, where was I? Reviewing, right. The irony is strong in this one. The Goat Avenger is almost bored, and poor Princess Magnolia is not getting much rest. I feel for her in this one.

I read all of the Princess in Black books together, pretty much in one sitting. I loved them! The Princess is a worthy heroine, always ready to jump in and fight those tiresome monsters! She does get tired though. By the time I got to The Princess in Black Takes a Vacation I was quite sure that she needed one!
Although more likely to appeal to girls, boys may enjoy this series as well. Simple sentences and short chapters make it very manageable for newly independent readers. Ever flowing humor and nonstop action make this a fun read for everyone, kids and adults alike.

After fighting fifteen monsters this week, the Princess in Black is exhausted, so when a new monster-fighter, the Goat Avenger, suggests that she take a vacation while he watches out for monsters, the princess heads for the beach to rest and relax. When a sea monster threatens the people at the beach, though, Princess Magnolioa must transform into the Princess in Black once more.
The Princess in Black books are so much fun. The illustrations are awesome; they are cute and fun, and the fact that they are on nearly every page helps make the book extremely readable. The text is funny and simple but not baby-ish, making this a great choice for readers who ready to move beyond easy readers into short chapter books. Totally adorable and tons of fun!
I read a copy through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

The princess in black takes a vacation is the coolest contemporary book! In monster land no one wore masks it said and it was underground. Once the princess in black could close her eyes and sleep she was better. The Princess in Black changes costumes and she becomes Princess Magnolia. I love the illustrations this was such a cool book.

Another favorite middle grade book! I am always highly entertained by Princess in Black. She is perfect for those who have just started reading chapter books on their own. I'd definitely recommend this series to those who really like action and princesses.

Princess Magnolia agrees and the next day she is off on her bicycle to the beach. Here she meets Princess Sneezewort. Suddenly, the tranquility of the day is broken by a giant sea serpent who is threatening to eat people. Of course, the princess immediately dons her costume and rises to the threat. Will The Princess in Black meet the challenge?
At the same time, readers are following The Goat Avenger in a parallel story as he strives to protect his goats. He sets traps for unsuspecting thieves. A squirrel is caught in one of his traps, but the tables are soon turned on The Goat Avenger. Is he successful in guarding the goat herd while the princess is away?
Lots of lively dialogue and large print size make this book appealing to young readers. Many of the colorful illustrations are full page. Onomatopoeia and action scenes move the story along quickly with just enough challenging vocabulary. Especially recommended for children for children ages six through eight.
