I won this book as a goodreads giveaway. I really love the cover of the book and it's very fitting to the story. The dedication is so sweet, and will probably stand out in my mind forever. That just brings tears to your eyes every time you read it. The story is inspiring. I would love to quit my job and travel. As exciting as that is there's a lot of unknowns which can be scary. Something I did while reading was googled images of the locations Kyle and Ash visited. Great writing to describe each area, when I looked at the pictures I knew exactly what they were talking about.
I have some of the same issues with the book as a reader that other's had. In the beginning of the book things were very repetitive with the blabla car and the some of the transit methods, and the drinking. (When in Rome.) I really think Kyle found his voice towards the end of the book where it read more like a novel instead of a journal entry. I would encourage him to keep writing. It's wonderful to read a book written by a millennial. To me it was like a conversation. I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm not sure this book would appeal to older people, or even if this book would be "current" in a few years because of the more slang terms used. But this is a first book, hopefully of many.
About halfway through I considered putting the book down, but I'm glad I finished it. If you can kind of look past the repetitiveness of it in the beginning, it's a wonderful story. It is well written. I mean really seriously there were times in the book where I just paused and said wow, that's great writing. Some of that you don't even see with more well known authors. Knowing this is a first book I think I was a little more forgiving than I would be of other authors. Personally I do think this book was written form journal entries in the beginning and maybe towards the end Kyle stopped writing, but wanted to finish the story in his own words instead of copying form the journal. That is the best part of the book. If the whole book was written in that fashion the book would be a 5/5 star for me.
Overall this book is so relatable. I really want to cross some things off my bucket list now and thanks to Kyle and Ash I now have a longer list of things I would like to do. I checked out their facebook page and there are a lot of great photos from their trip. This book was an amazing experience to share with other people. I plan to pass the book along to share with others.

This book is for more than just the adventurer.... this book is for everyone. Anyone looking for self- growth, love, friendship, meditation, encouragement, motivation, and obviously adventure can benefit from reading this book.

I picked this book up because I love adventure and I wanted to live vicariously through the lives of two people who are more courageous than I could ever be. This book was everything I expected it to be, but it also motivated me to ask myself "what am I waiting for?". If I want to find adventure and do life changing things; I have to do them without reserves. This is a great book and I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. I am already making my boyfriend read it!

I laughed, I cried...I laughed some more. I really enjoyed that this book was so easy and enjoyable to read. I felt as if I had been invited to join the entire trip. I could see, smell, taste, feel and hear exactly what Kyle described. I also enjoyed the realness that was shared throughout the book, the hard times, the arguments, and not that it was just this amazing, no bumps in the road experience. I love to travel and this book did exactly what I believe the intention was, to inspire people to GO, don't wait for the perfect time to live the life that you want. I will read this again and again!

I bought this book in person after hearing the author do a reading at my favorite indie bookstore. I liked the idea that he didn't set out to write a book, but set out to journal their experiences and along the way realized that his musings were worth sharing and then became a great way to memorialize a 21st century love story. The writing comes across as intelligent, witty, and honest. An interesting look at life and love as a young person in an age of instant gratification.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a really fun read and made me want to take a trip of my own. Also the author is super nice. I reached out to him and asked him questions about his trip and he responded right away and answered everything I asked. I definitely recommend reading this book, especially if you have any plans of taking a trip to Europe in the near future.

As a student who came home from study abroad recently, I was longing for a read that would allow me to remember that feeling of adventure that I was missing so much. This novel allowed me to feel like I was a million miles away running around Europe again. The description and storyline allows you to submerge yourself in this couples journey. You truly feel like you are right there with them walking around Berlin or swimming in the Mediterranean. I couldn't put down this read, finishing the book in one day. I feel so inspired and eager to travel again sometime soon and to never be afraid of what an adventure could entail. You won't regret buying this book.

Loved this book. As soon as I read the description of it, I know this book would speak to my soul. I loved reading about the adventures of Kyle and Ash and have taken so much inspiration from this book. I made my boyfriend read it after I read it and told him that would be us someday. I've always loved traveling and adventures and this book stands as a testament to everyone that it is possible to travel within your means and experience amazing things.

'The journey itself is the goal'.
Kyle James gives a personal and original twist to this old Taoist wisdom. As the reader goes through his debut book it becomes clearer - page by page - that travelling is never just about visiting new places. The author takes you on a whirlwind journey to 38 cities - but the itinerary also includes his emotions, affections, afflictions (!) and how travel changes it all.

James does a terrific job describing how his 'fall' changed himself and the relationship with his now fiance Ash. Come for the fun travel stories, stay for the narrative arc.

Amazingly hilarious novel. The author's comical analogies are always so funny yet so spot on that I know the exact point he was trying to get across. The adventures he speaks about are those that everyone imagines happens in European and world travels but never actually do. Each page had me ready to read the next chapter about the next city. You get caught up in how funny his writing is and forget its actually a very romantic love story about two young people. And thats what makes this book one of my favorites. I have never read such a book with laughter, joy, and romance packed into every page. Big ups author

Loved this book!!!! It truly felt like you were there through the fun, the stress, the arguments, and the falling deeper in love between Kyle and 'Ash'. It took me back to see some of the places that I have visited through his eyes. And, for the places that I have not yet gone, I have added them all to my list. This was a fun, easy read that kept me very engaged. I always wanted to see where they were going next, and who they would be meeting. I loved the honesty that travel, and love, are not always easy but so worth it in the end. Definitely recommending!!!!

My heart melted when I first read the romantic dedication of this book! Kyle expressed himself so beautifully I looked forward to reading more. My first impression was that they were so brave to change their lives and take the fall. How rare and wonderful to share this life changing journey with the one you love the most. I enjoyed reading about Kyle and Ash traveling to places I have been, and those I had not. I laughed, cried, worried, wondered, and was amazed at all they experienced! This is a very good book, you will not want to put it down!

What a phenomenal read. This couple is truly an inspiration! I love to travel and experience the culture of others. However, Kyle and Ashely are of the very rare who set out to experience the World and what it has to offer. Sure you can travel, but to do it in this fashion is way out of the norm. While reading this book it is obvious that they experienced so much more than just “seeing” another country or city…you can tell that they experienced a life change after each location. Kudos to you guys!

This book is full of humor, love, adventure and true testimonies of how traveling can be fun/hard but also how refreshing it can be to step out of your comfort zone. I admire Kyle and Ashleys determination to see the world and not be afraid of the fall. If you know the two of them this book is so real, it shows their love and friendship. If you are looking for a great read that will make you laugh out loud (and have people stare at you laugh) then this book should be added to your "must reads". So very proud to call these inspiring humans our dear friends. Keep up the good work guys, you have so many people cheering for you and all the adventures that lie ahead!

A wonderful tale of two young adults leaving the comfort of society for the unknown that surrounds travel. A hilarious tale that makes you want to leave your job and see the world. For anyone who has contemplated traveling the world, you can read first-hand how this couple made it work and maybe inspire yourself to also take a leap of faith.

This book is appropriately raw-- it simultaneously romanticizes and humanizes traveling around the world. I have a strong appreciation for clever people with clever ideas— but most importantly people who are not afraid to take risks. Kyle and Ash are both individuals who have developed strong minds and hearts that have given them the opportunity to break free from the pressure of conventional handcuffs and to live in the moment. There’s a time and place for everything in this world but if you don’t take risks, or calculated leaps of faith, rarely will you find those times and places lining up in a synergistic way. This book will inspire you to love yourself, enjoy the simple pleasures of life and most importantly LIVE. Or as Dalai Lama more elegantly put it when asked what surprised him the most -- "Man, because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.”

This is such a beautifully written book about overcoming your fears to travel the world to 15 countries and 38 cities in 114 days. Kyle James captures your heart and reminds you to risks. The way he describes the scenery, the people and his experience makes me want to follow in his footsteps. It’s the best travel book I’ve read all summer. I now want to travel the world and see all it has to offer. Not Afraid of the Fall is a must read and is a inspiration for ALL!

Being a traveler myself, Kyle's writing made it incredibly easy to relate. He writes with such ease and I felt as though I was right there with him and Ashley throughout their trip. From jumping into clear Croatian waters, to rooftop bars in Thailand, their adventures made me want to get on a plane. Hopefully one day I can use this book as a travel guide and do the same trip! I will definitely recommend this book to any of my friends itching to travel!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Written casually with many ups and downs. You feel as if you are tagging along in this crazy adventure. 4- stars only because this is the author's debut book and I believe he can make another that's even better. Takes a lot of courage to do what this couple did and I'm looking forward to the next one. If you like travel, love and romance, this book is for you.

I came across this book on instagram and although I'm not much of a reader, when I come across a book that peaks my interest I will usually try it out. And I can honestly say I don't know when the last time a book made me feel so many different emotions. I laughed out loud a few times, smiled and I actually shed a few tears. The tears were brought on because I could relate so well with how Kyle felt back in Denver before his journey, just going through life's motions of working 9 to 5 waiting for the weekends yet also feeling inspired to go out there and not be afraid of the fall.
This book is a must read for those a sense of wanderlust! I did not want this book to end. With the turn of each page I anxiously awaited for the next adventure that I would be taken on. I would highly recommend this book!!

Made me nostalgic for my days of traveling the world and itching for more. I feel like I know Kyle and Ash now - and I am a better, more enlightened person because of it. Mailing it to my boyfriend who is deployed so we're "not afraid of the fall" when we pack up and travel the world together after his enlistment in the marines is done! Highly recommended!!

This book is the perfect summer read! The author's witty and charming humor only adds to the already great international adventures of Kyle and Ashley. Kyle's openness and exploration of the new cultures he encountered is very inspiring, and highlights the importance and beauty of being a global citizen in the vast world we live in today.

I really loved this book! I am really interested in going on a big trip before I start graduate school and was looking around the travel section when I found this, I'm so glad I got it! Not only was it hilarious, but it was written about backpacking around the country - just like I want to do! It gave me great ideas for my own trip and I really enjoyed reading about what they did on their own trip. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

This book is dreadful. I cannot imagine who was paid to write all these positive reviews. It’s poorly written and disjointed, and it’s basically a shallow, straight diary recounting of a man’s drunken binges, diarrhea, public urination, and farting across Europe and Thailand. With commentary on sight-seeing excursions thrown in here and there.
