The exercises is great. I learn much quicker from doing that reading, and this allows me to do that. However, the timed exercises are mostly broken and reads every input as going over the time limit. This is very frustrating. Please fix the timer.

I highly recommend Myers' HTML/CSS and Javascript books. It's obvious how much time and effort he put in to make sure those two books provided solid instruction, and the online quizzes were top-notch. Unfortunately, the attention to detail and quality control in jQuery is blatantly lacking. The lessons themselves are typically too brief, basic, or redundant; the online quizzes are often broken or buggy; and the solutions many times were incorrect, didn't work, or were half-baked. I gave this three stars because I'd say 85% of it is still good practice, and you will learn many jQuery methods by practicing, but be prepared to second-guess if the answers are right, if the software or your browser is working correctly, and looking up the jQuery API docs often to cross-reference information hardly explained by the book.

This book does one thing most other books that claim to teach Javascript fail to do, it actually asks you to practice what you learn. This is indeed "smart" as programming is all about "doing". Passively reading through a book wont lock the concepts into your head and this book is valuable when viewed from that perspective.
In my opinion where is comes up short is it doesn't place those concepts all that well in relation to one another. What do I mean by this? Think about a watch. I can explain in detail each component of a watch to you. Its hands, its watch face (dial), its strap, its internal parts, rotors, cogs, etc. What happens however if I don't give you the big picture of how they work in relation to one another? Well you know the parts of the watch but can you use them to make a working watch?
For me this is this books only shortcoming. It explains loops, arrays, functions, etc really well but its separation into little pieces needs to be brought together using, for example, flow diagrams and an explanation of how these fit together. A progressive weekly project at the end of each chapter would be invaluable in this respect too. This would make what is already a good book an excellent one. Let’s hope for something along these lines in future editions.

Best book, hands down to learning jQuery! There are other good books out there but if you want to learn jQuery and have it stick to your head ASWTLjQ is at the top of the list. Mark Myers has an interesting way of teaching you programming. You read then you do the work on his website, it's brilliant! I only wish he had other books (aside from his HTML, CSS and his JavaScript books).

The author presents JQuery in a clear and accessible way. I appreciated the author's incremental teaching approach, providing new examples of syntax and methods explained in previous lessons and then adding new information that I found helped me easily grasp and retain the information. I took off 1 star because some of the jsfiddle demos were a bit of out of sync or were at least too different than the corresponding lessons.

Really great book. It breaks down all the topics into digestible pieces and then backs them up with interactive exercises. This really helped back up information I had learned already and teach me new topics as well. I am looking forward to going through the other books by Mark!

This is one of the simplest, most effective methods of learning to code ever.
I love the short chapters and the exercises are perfect with each chapter ever so slightly increasing in difficulty. The best thing is, you get to put what you learn into practice straight away with the bonus JS Fiddle exercises at the end! Thank you very, very, very, very much!!

Just fantastic! A very nicely structured book for begginers who want to learn jQuery quickly. Exercises are pretty nice although, sometimes ask redundant questions which you can skip by the way. I purchased this book when I was close to finishing author's JavaScript book because I liked that one so much. It should be every jQuery programming aspirant's first book before they move onto advanced books. Long live Mark Myers!
